Tip: You asked whether there was a filter for bonus actions and there actually is one, on the hotbar to the left of your spell slots if you see those icons, those are actually indicators of what you can do during the turn, for example, Halsin has an action (green circle), bonus action (orange triangle), wild shape (green paw). If you click on those it will actually show you what you can do with them so if you click on the orange triangle it will show you everything you can use with your bonus action including any items that can be used with one. This can also be done with your spell slots so if you click the icon for level 3 spells it will show all of your level 3 spells including what ones can be upcast.

Haste is such an amazing spell. Best to apply it early at a start of a combat, if combat is going to be a long fight. Def can save the day. XD Also there is a filter for bonus actions. The tiny triangle at the top of your action bar is all bonus actions if you click it, the one next to the spell slots, and the tiny paw. The tiny circle is all actions. 47:00 it does show your character moving. XD Funny moment though.
@sloporion Жыл бұрын
Also, if you gather your party in a tight circle and throw a Potion of Haste (or whatever it's called) onto the ground in between them, it will cause the affect in an AoE. Same thing works with a healing potion. Also, if you throw a potion at a character and hit them with the bottle, it can deal damage, AND the damage triggers before the heal goes off. This is especially important if trying to throw a healing potion at a dying character. If you hit them with it, it will give them a failed death saving throw, because they took damage while dying. So, if they already have 2 failed saving throws, you can actually kill them by trying to heal them.

I know I am months late on this comment lol. Loving watching you two through this journey. I have a tip for all the BG3 players that are reading this. It is worth the time to organize your hotbar, so you'll be presented with a clear idea of your options. This will help you not feel overwhelmed by information overload. So I like to first expand my hotbar space to four rows (the plus key on the right of the bar). Then assign each row with a category of skills. First row will be my most used skills like attack, etc. Second row will be like single target offensive spells like fire blast. Third row would be AOE spells. Fourth row would be support like healing spells, potions, etc. Y'all can develop your own system, but the key is to be organized. I hope this helps anyone!

It's fun to see different ways of handling boss fights like this. I sneak-attacked the zombie upstairs near the entrance, which triggered the fight to start, without even speaking to Thisobald. When I saw that mass of flesh running toward me, I took off out of the tavern and hid. This put Thisobald out in the open. I then snuck up behind him and set down ten smokepowder barrels, and lit them off from a safe distance. That took out about half his hit points. Finished him off with a mess of force damage from Gale's magic missiles and Wyll's eldritch blasts. Never even knew that he could get drunk and pass out.
@JaMaAuWright Жыл бұрын
A lesson learned with the thorn spell. Always check your damage type before you cast! No such thing as neutral damage, every damage has a type. On that note, take a closer look at Ice Knife's damage, as it deals about half it's damage as cold damage, and the other half as piercing damage. Some enemies have resistance to both physical AND magical sources of damage, which are indicated if you hover over that resistance in their character sheet. That said, given that you're on Tactician difficulty, it's still an impressive win.
@LucklessLovelocks Жыл бұрын
Can you explain to me exactly how that boss worked. We're still pretty confused. I understand that we powered up his brew with whatever element we cast. How exactly did that effect him and why did he eventually throw up on us to make himself weak.
@JaMaAuWright Жыл бұрын
@@LucklessLovelocks So the throwing up thing happens regardless of what you do after he's had a drink enough times, it's just a mechanic that's there because otherwise, that much HP with his total immunity to physical damage would just not be reasonable for the level he shows up at. It's very difficult to defeat him without that self imposed debuff unless you have an extremely specific magic focused strategy. The elemental empowerment just makes it so that his next big attack will be of whatever element you hit him with. Then, he starts to hallucinate, spawning a creature which I'm faaaiiirly sure is always of the opposite element of whatever you hit him with but I'm not certain on that. That's what that little ice creature was. You guys actually dodged a bullet by not hitting him with multiple elements at once, it makes it so his big brew attack is much more dangerous.
@LucklessLovelocks Жыл бұрын

@@LucklessLovelocks No problem man. Usually if any enemy's condition has something important that's causing it the condition will mention it in its description. As an example, Odd actually pointed out that the turn before he passed out he had the "Profoundly Intoxicated" status, which read "Thisobald is on the verge of passing out from his heavy drinking". Usually these status descriptions are very deliberate and not just there for flavor reasons. Keeping an eye on the conditions actively affecting a boss will be very important as the game progresses, as often times the game doesn't state the mechanics of a boss fight outright. Looking forward to seeing you guys continue!

Hey just a tip, in my experience creatures with Undead Fortitude don't exactly need to be finished by radiant or crit damage. It just means that if they are taken below 1 HP without it being radiant or crit damage, they survive with 1 HP, but only for one time. After that they can be killed normally.
@thisishowitallends932111 ай бұрын
Odd is like one trick pony with his Thorns and Animal Form. Casts Thorns - remembers it doesn't affect Thorm - doesn't immediately drop the concentration, so Karlach is the only one taking damage. This is hard to watch. But also hilarious
@DaveAtHJ Жыл бұрын
Maybe you've figured this out at this point, but still worth stating how resistances work. There are two types of weapon damage: non-magical (mundane), and magical. Both of those have all the piercing/bludgeoning/slashing variants. Enemies that are resistant to non-magical weapon damage will halve incoming damage from normal, unenchanted weapons and such, but magical weapons and things like the upgraded druid form can overcome that resistance. This is what Odd is thinking of. But enemies can also be resistant to magical weapon damage, which means they'll halve ALL incoming damage from piercing/bludgeoning/slashing, whether the source is magical or not. The tooltip will have separate paragraphs for both if you hover over the resistance in the Examine window.

Also, the Primal Weapons or whatever it's called that makes your attacks overcome damage reduction is only for the resistances that say "by non-magical weapons". Examples of that would be things like werewolves or some undead like shades or vampires. The things you were looking at just had flat damage reduction, like Karlach does when she rages. It just reduces the damage type, regardless of the kind of attack.
