This was really weird cause again I feel like it perpetuates the idea that a vegan diet is difficult and inaccessible? I've been vegan for nearly 4 years now and the only supplements I take are B12 - essential - and vitamin D because I live in the UK and most of us are deficient. No bloating or problems with tiredness, not to mention I seldom eat salads. This nutritionist seemed like she was mostly trying to peddle her supplement range.
@conejitoasesinoOG6 жыл бұрын
I agree with you 100%! I'm not vegan, cause ugh, but I know you can do real nutritious vegan food and it's not that hard. You just have to be more educated about the actual nutritional content of food. Eating salads is not a nutritionally balanced diet. I'm glad to see vegans calling bs on fad veganism.

Definitely agree! I'm not currently qualified, but going into my 3rd year studying dietetics; and I personally don't agree with a lot of the diet advice given. As a dietitian you don't only get taught how food can affect your body, but also how to implement behaviour change. Watching this video, I feel as though the nutritionist introduced dramatic changes to each of the girl's diets, which can be unmotivating reflected in the 'slip-ups'. In addition, I don't think the girls should be made to feel bad for these 'slip-ups'; treats and one-offs are perfectly fine and healthy in moderation. I also think the diet plans given were quite restricted with 'salads' and is in no way necessary; healthy eating does not mean all smoothies, salads, and pills, and teaching this could even promote eating disorder behaviour. Healthy eating shouldn't be a chore, food can be healthy AND enjoyable if done right. This is just my personal opinion though and again I'm not qualified as of yet.

I would like to see next time a real nutritionist/diet person who has studied for real and knows things for example can explain why change green apple and why the person goes no dairy and like changing parts of your life but still feeling like it's your life and not that the food becomes routines. I don't like celebrity diets or those as they seem like something you do for a week and and then give up because it has made food inti a boring task that isn't even enjoyable.

Did she literally go into extreme detail for Jazz's foods and do NOTHING with the other two girls' meals?? Only talked about meditating, their phone, pills, and smoothies??? Jazz gets a meal plan, they got lifestyle advice. You've gotta be kidding me.
@zanderg70486 жыл бұрын
Kaalyn - OPG i think its because in the past she has never stuck to these eating/lifestyle changes and has always quit so she needed more of a mental change than the other girls
@Kaalyn_HOW6 жыл бұрын
Courtney G -- That contradicts what I said though. Jazz got very specific food instructions to start, the other two were only given lifestyle tips and pills. The other two complained of GI issues, eating fast food, etc etc, but Jazz was the only one told what to eat and how at first. It seemed pretty evident as to why.
@grahm81276 жыл бұрын
Kaalyn - OPG pretty sure they all got the same plan, but they wouldn’t show her telling each girl the same things three times lol, each girl seemed to have the same smoothie, lemon water, salads and such.

I think it's the editing. Notice all three immediately change the way they eat. Later in the vid, they talk about diet changes. Mitch Miller, Jazz has used all those qualities to avoid some issues - look back at some of the stuff she has said in the past. Also, the nutritionist needs to be selective because each of them have different nutritional needs to get healthy.

I see the same and I'm not judging her on her struggle with ED. Why someone who has ED isn't already seeing a dietician for help is beyond me. But Jazz had a habit of complaining about and not participating in any videotape that requires her to change, even temporarily. She reverts back to whatever she is used to. Maybe that's also a struggle for her. But meanwhile maybe featuring someone more open to change would help people get more out of the video.

*Today I learnt that there is a difference between a nutritionist and a dietitian. Anyone can call themselves a nutritionist and get away with it. Dietitians are accredited and regulated. This lady here is a nutritionist. The issue with that is that a nutritionist is not required by any law or oath to be scientifically accurate.*
@Cemarimoney6 жыл бұрын
Actually, some nutrionist a prefer the title because of the negative association with the word diet. My nutrionist has her bachelors of science as well as extra health classes she takes to keep up to date with current knowledge. And she calls herself a nutrionist because she believes diets are unsustainable. Instead nutrional plans cater to the individual to help them make slow life changes until they reach a sustainable place.

The problem is not with the nutritionist it's with the governments because they don't recognise nutritionist/naturopaths in high regard, therefore anyone (even your dog) can call themselves a nutritionist and get away with it. Doesn't mean that people who go to uni to specifically study those things aren't smart or use scientific evidence. As someone who is at uni studying those things, believe me when I say there is so much scientific evidence.
@erint51536 жыл бұрын
Yep yep. I thought about becoming a Registered Dietitian for a bit, the curriculum is very science-focused and you need to have a degree and a year long residency. RDs are legit, nutritionists like this lady have not credentials.
@erint51536 жыл бұрын
Aryiana Moore No, Registered Dietitian is a credential, like Registered Nurse. Your nutritionist can’t call herself a dietitian because she has not earned that credential. Not because she thinks it sounds bad... but she sure has you fooled! Lol
@catgrantham57966 жыл бұрын
I wish that Buzzfeed would bring in a Registered Dietitian (RD) in for the next of these videos rather than a "celebrity nutritionist"; anyone can be a nutritionist, but it takes years of physiology, biochemistry, and research education to become an RD -- I'm in my 5th year of education towards that certification right now. Many of the recommendations in this video promote yo-yo dieting and the diet plans don't actually seem to be tailored to each of the ladies, but rather are just slight variations in a veganism-style "cleanse diet" push. Overall, the diets are what I would call "fad diets" because they don't promote sustainably-changed lifestyles due to their strictness and mode of implementation. I enjoy y'all's videos, but Buzzfeed, if y'all really care about giving your audience "news and entertainment worth sharing with their friends, family, and the people who matter in their lives" give them medically-sound, health-promoting content, not content that promotes orthorexic behaviors.
@DanaN46 жыл бұрын
As someone also going through this certification process, I feel the exact same way! Honestly, using nutritionists in so many of their videos confuses the public (by giving varied advice that likely isn’t appropriate research-based practice) and degrades the worth of real RDs.
@victoriagrace51346 жыл бұрын
Agreeeeeed. The “nutritionist” label means nothing in the US. I really want an RD to come in too. Unfortunately it probably wouldn’t make for good content because they’d just tell them the same diet guidelines we’ve all know.
@sweetyetunrefined93356 жыл бұрын
I lost it when I saw she was having them take "detox" supplements. I'm also not sure why I watched, lol. I've already been to an RD, and she said my eating habits were pretty good.
@lydiahayden83066 жыл бұрын
Well a lot of dietician are biased too so say she was a vegan dietician would you still be like it’s orthoexia
@catgrantham57966 жыл бұрын
Lydia, I think you missed my point. Yes, even dietitians can promote orthorexic behaviors, but veganism isn't actually what I had an issue with. It's the "cleanse-style" of diet that is not supported by research or necessary for the body. Veganism can be okay, for people interested in pursuing that lifestyle for moral or health reasons, however being a healthy vegan requires a significant amount of planning and education beyond what was presented in this video. My main concern is with a number of her specific recommendations that are not supported by research to be sustainable or healthy for the long-term. I do wish BuzzFeed would hire dietitians, there are plenty of dietitians that I disagree with, but at least the bulk of their recommendations are typically sustainable. Hiring "nutritionists" for these videos devalues the years of education and training that we do and delegitimizes dietitians as healthcare professionals.

taking someone that is not vegan/plant-based and does not want to be and making them be so for 3 months, definitely is a diet, and a fad diet at that. Basically all they were eating was salads anyway, which is a horrible way to introduce someone to a plant-based diet plan.

BRANDON DAVIS A diet just means the way you eat. They are changing their diet. You understand?
@jlbeeen6 жыл бұрын
I ate similar to that for about a year, which is more sustainable. I still stick with a lot of those ideals, but in a more flexible way, which is the goal. I'll have pancakes, fries, tacos, and things at restaurants that aren't as strict as they made it look while still eating all plants and mostly whole foods. I can't do all whole food in winter because there are no plants growing here, but it's the idea of reducing packaged goods with added sugar and other things that aren't as important as we often feel.

I’m a real fitness professional and this “nutrition” advice is literally trash. The girls struggled with the advice because it was way over the top and didn’t fit their lifestyles and seemed all about getting these girls to eat less, which is NOT the point of healthy eating. Did she cut dairy because she suspected pcos? Is she changing their bedtimes because of some vague understanding of TCM? Does she understand what candida is and that it doesn’t care what color your apple is?? I wish major publications would be more responsible with their health content. If you try a program like this and fail, it’s NOT YOU. (I never comment on terrible internet fitness advice, but this video really got to me because of the comments I saw and because I, too, wasted years of my life trying “celebrity” workouts and diets, only to get bigger and less fit and more frustrated with myself.)

She keeps emphasizing "the bloat" which seems very visual and superficial to me. Yes, sometimes bloating is because of improper diet, but it can because of your period, or I know I have a small frame and tend to "bloat" after I eat just because my stomach physically fills out a bit.
@TinyFitnessHouston6 жыл бұрын
Nisha yes, and real, persistent bloat can be a symptom of something that requires attention from an MD. I feel like we use “bloat” to describe the fact that no one, not even models, sits around with chiseled, glistening abs 24/7. Women of childbearing age have bodyfat. Women with bad lower back posture have a “pooch” in their lower abs (their words, not mine).
@Tara-id3rk6 жыл бұрын
Exactly. She says it isn’t about dieting and numbers, but she cut out everything they typically eat and had them eat plant based. Which is fine if that’s what you preach that you recommend. It was too strict. However, I’m not a nutritionist. It was unrealistic for a long term lifestyle if that isn’t remotely how they ate to begin with. And yeah...that candida thing was weird. I’m all about balancing flora and fauna, but her reasoning is weird. Sugar is sugar and fruit has sugar, in differing amounts, but still.

@mechivk81826 жыл бұрын
I don't think this is right. Drinking your calories is not recommended. And ALL THOSE PILLS. That's not worth it. No real dietitian is gonna give you something you can't make a habit out of. This may work as a short term diet, but not as a lifestyle. Next time you should bring in someone not for their name, but for their knowledge.
@Strwbbe6 жыл бұрын
And also it’s healthy to eat whole foods like she mentioned but you shouldn’t have to (for example ur goal is to debloat) cut away everything and eat pills to do so. Carbs and meat are good too.

Probiotics are normal to recommend that even doctors, nurses etc recommend them. And she added the digestive enzymes because of their previous diets. Two of the girls that had digestive issues that indicate that their digestive tract was struggling to break down what they consume.
@wilmaknickersfit6 жыл бұрын
@@comprendersi1444 The point though is to get your probiotics through food, not by popping a supplement. They also need to increase the amount of gut bacteria in their bodies to help them digest food and that should be done through the food they eat.

Yeah you guys failed on this video. We shouldn’t encourage restriction and shaming other types of foods. As someone who is recovering from an eating disorder, this is shocking and disappointing. I hope others do not see this and compare their food to this video. A “healthy relationship to food” does not mean shaming yourself for having a donut.
@cassandra64416 жыл бұрын

they aren't shaming the other foods, they're just foccused on eating whole foods. Which is what the majority of your diet should exist of, not donuts.
@cassandra64416 жыл бұрын
TheCheeseburger141 There’s a huge difference between bringing in more whole foods into your meals versus dieting on just whole foods. This video encourages restriction and absolutely no satisfaction. In terms of shaming, shaming essentially means “I am bad”, which is how individuals talk all the time about food on social media. There’s no shame in having one donut, enjoy it, and move on. But society and this video shames eating a donut. Plus the nutritionist said don’t eat a bar, eat a whole fruit. Don’t eat a red apple, eat a green apple. This is how my ED started, and that’s why I’m so against this type of messaging.

Did anyone notice how MUCH pills they have to take. Is this normal for a nutritionist to have you take this many pills? Shouldn't she give advice on what foods to have etc. to decrease bloating, not recommending pills?

She probably did give them that advice it's just not in the video. Switching to more whole foods and eliminating the processed food was one example of how to address bloat through their diet. Also, they were just taking probiotics and then a digestive enzyme which isn't really a big deal at all.

Well, she calls herself a "nutritionist" instead of a dietician. I don't know for sure how it is in the US but in Europe and Britain you may only call yourself a dietician if you took the college education to prepare for it. It's a protected term. That's why people who aren't an actual dietician call themselves "nutritionists" and "nutrition-experts" etc. Anyone can call themselves that and peddle their own brand of vitamin pills or shakes or whatever. If you eat properly and you have no medical condition you shouldn't need any vitamin pills or whatever.

Water detoxes and dilutes saturated fats and salts and added sugars which those 3 can cause water "weight gain" and heart problems as well as other health concerns. Not just that you have to exercise 15 minutes to 1 hour daily. Not a dietician but I had to go through a dietary program for 3 1/2 years to help me lose some weight and be healthier. I'm way much better than I was 3 1/2 years ago.

BuzzFeed stop choosing “nutritionists” for these videos and start hiring Dietitians! People who actually went to school for nutrition and are required to be registered and licensed. Dietitians are medical professionals who use evidence based approaches. Anyone can be a nutritionist... and they don’t even have to know anything about nutrition or the human body.

Yeast infections are a real medical problem, but smoothies to fix "candida overgrowth" is pseudoscience. Snyder and other quacks claim that a wide assortment of common ailments are caused by chronic systemic candida infections and that special diets can "cleanse" your body of it. They also tell people they have candida overgrowth and need to do this diet without any science-based medical diagnosis. That's quackery. Nutritionists should not be giving any kind of advice on microbial infections or encouraging self diagnosis. Recurrent yeast infections should be diagnosed and treated by a doctor.
