'Sextet' and 'I'd like to see you again' are the two best albums. Never saw them play this. Pity it's not live. Bass is brilliant

This non-live television performance fascinates me because drummer Donald Johnson is on the bass guitar and vocals. For decades I thought the lead vocal here belonged to Topping. Love this clip so much although younger viewers will be horrified that it’s not LIVE.

Topping's vocals were restricted to the chorus of 'Touch', it's unmistakably his voice on the 'feel your heart beat' line. Legend is he was getting tired of the sound of his own voice post-Sextet. I used to have a boot cassette of ACR at the Cedar Club, Birmingham from 1981 (Might still have it somewhere) and I'm pretty sure Touch was on it along with a couple of other tracks from the same LP

"Touch" was introduced into their set around June '82. Leicester Uni on the 19th of that month would have been the first time I saw them play it live.

I believe Johnson played bass on quite a few songs
@arahjofobia Жыл бұрын
@@cleaningmyroom1000 well, two years ago he played bass on some of the songs during their life performance in France, so I guess he could play bass on several occasions in the past.

'Touch' is a gem and deserved wider recognition. The band are in a bit of a makeshift mode here, as their retreating vocalist Simon Topping had just left and is replaced on the performance by a miming Andy Connell. Donald Johnson is just so damn good, he can play and sing almost anything, though one of the great things about the band is that they can play a lot of instruments, with Moscrop and Johnson often swap drumming duties to this day. Whether the band seriously considered having Donald as a full time vocalist I don't know, but having Kerr made a lot more sense.
