If I may say, as a former Corpsman serving with the 3rd Marines in Quang Tri Province right along the DMZ in Vietnam.... for nearly 3 years we engaged in firefights daily. When in the midst of battle, you aren't fighting for some higher cause or ideal, but more for your own survival and that of your brothers next to you.

Thank you for your service and I’m grateful men like you exist. I hope you’ve found peace after going through such terrible things. That’s what makes Ellis’ actions so amazing to me. At this moment he decided his life was worth what ever he believed or whatever he was feeling. “THE MEN MUST SEE US TODAY” This is the moment he decided his life was worth whatever it was he was fighting for.

Thank you for your service. This explains it perfectly, why men fight so hard, it’s for each other.

Well done.. The fighting in the triangular field was also shown in the movie "Gettysburg" Devils Den was the Union army's left flank at that time. (3rd Corps)

All of your Gettysburg videos are informative & enjoyable to watch. They have motivated me to travel to the battlefield & spend several days walking the numerous fields that you filmed & narrated. I will be prepared to navigate the rough terrain. Great job & thanks for the inspiration.

Others videos don't capture the terrain, all the angles of it that you did. Thanks so much! From devil's den little round top is alot higher than i thought.

I appreciate that. That’s one of my main goals. Show the terrains as best as I can. Helps me understand things a little more.

Thank you show shining the spotlight on this unit. As I mentioned on Instagram my ancestor was in this unit. I can't confirm if he was at Gettysburg but he was in the unit at this time.

You do a great job telling the stories of the men on both sides! From your description it is easy to imagine how the battle looked to the men on the battlefield. Excellent video!

Weirdly enough, Devil’s Den was already named Devil’s Den before the battle by locals. Proper name for it though.

This is outstanding. I do living history of the 124th and am from Orange County so it's really awesome to see someone posting about them. This is really well done. If I may add to this based on letters and diary entries we've found a few years back. Though many attribute "the me must see us today" to Ellis, it is actually said by Cromwell not Ellis. Captain Sillman of the colors company approached the two mounted officers and asked Ellis to get down. Ellis's response was that "if it is my time, I don't believe dismounting will change that" and Major Cromwell then said "the men must see us today". We found that the quotes got merged sometime in the postwar recollections.

I’m so glad to hear that! The story isn’t told enough. That’s interesting you brought that up. In my research I read that Cromwell said that line but then the park service sign posted At Devil’s Den states Ellis said it. I obviously went with the latter. I wish I would have known about the rest of the quotes. Really helps complete the story and show just how selfless these men were. Thank you for sharing that and thank you for watching.

@@ProjectPast1565 No problem! So we figured that the NPS adopted the intial story from postwar, and its hard to get that changed after its stuck for so long. Keep up the good work!

Great Job on this video, think you were able to pull off showing how the terrain really looks to those who haven't been there in person. yeah that terrain is very rough i've done the walk up the slaughter pen to the top of Little Round Top, it sucked (esp the thorns) can't imagine doing it with full battle rattle & under fire. by the looks of the new work the NPS is doing it should have a new clear path from Devil's den to Little Round Top so it will make that walk alot easier. when i was younger and on a joint Arab / American security team we knew any day could be our last and that we would have to sacrifice ourself for others, but that was the job (we just hoped we would look cool when it happened lol )

Thanks Paul! That was the goal. Bring Devil’s Den to your living room. I’m looking forward to doing that walk on my next trip.
