I saw Kai...I clicked🙂 1)Ajhumma means Old Lady/ Aunt. 2)Noona means Bigger/Elder Sister. In Asian countries it's not very common to call someone with their name directly, if they are older than you.

My daughter wants to go to Korea and is learning Korean, I'm voting Japan and learning Japanese. Probably won't get to either, LOL! Anyhow, she's VERY uncomfortable calling any male she might become friends with 'oppa', she's trying to find out if there's a less personal word. She thinks it's used too much to try and get round guys for the girls to get what they want, and she's deeply adverse to that. So do you know if there's such a word? She's even wondered if she can use the word Hyung as it's purely fond, but respectful between males, but doesn't think so because she's a woman (she's 24). It's really bothering her at this point.

@@troublemcallister730 She should definitely not use that word as I think they will take it as something else because she’s a foreigner. Nothing wrong with just using their name if she’s in a situation where she needs to. Korean people don’t usually expect foreigners to do everything the way they do so I don’t think they will take it as disrespectful.
