An excellent performance!! The staging was unique n the effects of the visiting spirits were VERY spooky!! The costumes well done, the live acting a treat, n the ending when they went over all the parts of his life like memories was an interesting way to encapsulate the entire play and sum it up and show all the players one more time!!! Thank you so much! Yes, it's a Romanesque Revival Style mansion built in 1880. Perfect for the time period of the piece, but definitely with its logistical challenges!

I have a collection of versions of a Christmas Carol I've amassed for fun. Those I can't find or can't afford to own, I try to at least watch. Thanks for increasing my collection of seen versions as I had never heard of this. FYI I have versions that include Scrooge being played by women including Susan Lucci (Erica from All My Children), Vanessa Williams (the singer) , Cycily Tyson and Tori Spelling. As well as a really obscure one I watched where Scrooge and almost every other character is gay. Wild. It's a dumb hobby but a fun one.

Me, too. And books. People get rather upset with Scrooge being gay. The book Humbug takes the same tack. I, also, am a fan of Hauntings and Humbug, a steampunk version and Scrooge is a woman.

I guess my only questions about those alterations to the story would be 1) how Scrooge being homosexual could be extrapolated from, or supported by, the text and 2) why/how making Scrooge female (or gay) would better or ore clearly serve the intention or impartation of wisdom from the work. Having not seen/read those versions, I assume they make their viewpoint plausible through some angle or ideological means!

@@elizabethmannhardt This is being done to all the old stories and fairy tales. True, men were the central characters in most of the olde things but writing was constricted by law at the time. I guess if people want to be those characters (I know several woman who are Scrooges), it doesn't harm the original because we still have the stories we love and watch. We can just ignore the rest.

Charles Dickens (who wrote the story this is based on) was wealthy and never advocated for poverty. He simply asked that those who have been blessed with wealth ease the suffering of those less fortunate and help each other. Obviously all Scrooge’s wealth still left him without friends or romance.
