So great to see Richard in his element. He was one of the best Organ Scholars we've had at Warwick during the last decade - a superb musician and colleague!

I love your brilliant and well-thought out registrations. The lines were so clean and clear with wonderful texture. I am always in awe of both English and French organists, and you exemplify what is great about English organ performance. Can't beat the acoustics of these beautiful cathedrals , but it takes organists of great talent to take full advantage of those spaces. You do so splendidly. The A-Minor i haven't heard better. I could hear all the nuances of this majestic piece. Your timing, articulation, and phrasing is impeccable.

This recital is a superb start to the BiS winter organ festival and I particularly enjoyed all of it !!!!! Many thanks to this evenings talented organist Richard Cook who clearly knows his way inside out and around the St Edmundsbury Harrison and Harrison instrument. BWV 729 is 1 of my all time favourites and the Brahms piece just wonderful. As for the Jongon finale - WoW - Definitely worth another listen !! The quality of sound recording and the camera shots just go to showcase Richard McVeigh at his finest. Thank you again.

What a great way to start the 2021 Winter BiS Festival. Thanks to Richard Cook for his wonderful recital and commentary, and to Richard McVeigh for his excellent video and audio editing. Although it will be difficult to catch all of the Festival via the livestream, I will definitely use the playback to enjoy all of the music.

Beautiful program selections, instrument, engineering and musicianship, from top to bottom. I can't even decide what is my favorite part, but the superb recording quality makes it all the more delicious. With good headphones, I am there, in the sanctuary. My ears will be back many times for more. Thanks for making the extra effort to post the nice program index. ✡️✝️🎹🕊 ·

Richard & Richard with the Harison & Harrison - AWESOME combination: - excellent performance - excellent instrument - excellent ambiance - excellent production ! Despite how good Hauptwerk is, my ears can still hear the difference between a recording in an actual room vs Hauptwerk - the room is better! Thanks to all for this -- it will become my go-to reference for these pieces! :-) PS - question - at 35:54 - 36:02 - are you flying a drone to get those shots above the tops of the pipes? PPS - if not, wouldn't it be cool to fly a drone around in a cathedral to get some spectacular shots?
@beautyinsound3 жыл бұрын
Not a drone, but hold that thought…!

I see now that the north sides of the transept/quire have been considerably modified to accommodate the organ. Was this always part of the church/organ design, or was it modified to carry a substantial organ later on?
@beautyinsound3 жыл бұрын
As this part of the cathedral is relatively modern, I suspect that the organ as accommodated into the design of the building.

Noticing the ever-present human music page turner during this wonderful performance, I wondered anew why iPad-like displays haven’t (apparently) started to take the place of printed sheet music. Electronic displays would seem to obviate not only the need of a page turner, it could have a library of a great number of works in its memory. I’m not a musician so I’m sure there’s something here I’m not considering when thinking about this.

I'm not an expert musician, far from it. But the printed notes are no doubt easier to read, and easier on the eye than a computer screen. At least I would find that to be true for myself. Richard, you are a great organist, and the registrations and your interpretation of these selections are quite wonderful.. Thank you for your study and hard work that produce such glorious music for your listeners.

What a wonderful recital. Very enjoyable and educational. However, with utmost respect, I must take exception to your calling this a Christmas Recital. A recital, yes, most definitely. But there was nothing in any of the marvelous music that would draw me closer to the spirit of the Christmas season in any sense; much less to Christ, himself. Just saying.
