I’m so glad you liked this!!! My Dad and I would watch and laugh at this every Christmas Eve. Now it’s just me and my 3 year old daughter and, while she is too young to watch it yet, we had snow flurries on Christmas Eve here in Washington DC and I held her up to the window next to our Christmas tree and we watched the snow together . . . and the closing scene of this movie popped into my mind and got me misty eyed. There is something so good, and goofy, yet wholesome and Christmassy about this movie that I will always love. It was so fun seeing you enjoy it too!!! 😉👍

It's called "Palmolive" because the soap was originally made with a combination of palm and olive oils. In the scene in the Chinese restaurant, the director didn't tell the actress Melinda Dillon that the duck would still have the head on. Her reaction was real and unscripted.

Enjoyed watching you laugh. I sued to live in Cleveland, and the same department store was still there with the wooden escalator. It is probably the funniest Christmas movie ever made -- it never gets old, even after the tenth or twentieth time. The writing is universal -- we can all relate to many parts of what it was like growing up. Ralphie (the actor who played him) is now a director in Hollywood! You're wonderful!

Here in the U.S. at Christmas time there's a tradition that's been around for quite a few years now - two cable channels, TBS and TNT (which, I guess are owned by the same company) will show "24 Hours of A Christmas Story". The two channels are usually right next to each other in the channel lineup and they stagger the start times (so, if on one channel it start at 8pm then on the other channel it starts at 9pm) so you can flip back and forth if you want or just stick to one channel and then when it ends, it just starts all over again.

Nothing made my dad laugh harder than seeing The Old Man glower at the fleeing dogs and screaming 'SONSOFBITCHEN! BUMPUSEEESSSSS!!!" FUN FACT: There was a fantasy scene where Ralphie meets Flash Gordon the sci-fi comic strip hero and helps him fight Ming The Merciless with his BB gun. During the 1930s there was a popular serial (short film episodes) of Flash Gordon and that's why they filmed that scene. Unfortunately, the scene was deleted and no footage has been found. And I guess they cut that scene at the very last minute because the actors that play Flash Gordon and Ming The Merciless are still listed in the closing credits.

I know this is a couple years late, but this just popped up in my recommended videos... Yes, BB guns are still made and sold. Some work by pumping them to build up air pressure, and some take small CO2 gas cartridges. A similar product is Airsoft guns, which shoot plastic BBs at lower speeds. Some work by being "cocked", and some take batteries to produce the air pressure via a motor. Some of them can even shoot "full auto", meaning that as long as you hold down the trigger, a stream of BBs will shoot out at a fairly high rate. Generally, there aren't any/many restrictions on who can own BB guns and Airsoft guns, however some states in the US treat them as actual weapons if someone is carrying them outside their property. "Carry" in this case can even mean transporting them to another location. In such cases, the person transporting them must observe the laws governing the transportation of actual guns (generally unloaded with the gun and ammo in separate compartments of the car.

I have a funny parallel to this. My two brothers and I wanted Rambo knives, which were these big, razor sharp knives. Of course, our mom was totally opposed, but on Christmas morning there they were, our dad (like in this movie) had overriden her veto. So we 3 boys went to the store w/ our dad later in the day and the first thing we do is start flailing the knives about, and my brother seriously cuts into my hand and I have to walk into the store to find my dad. He takes one look at the huge amount of blood and says "of course!" 😂 Swear to god, true story. I didn't get to see my mom go off on him or hear him have to tell her what she predicted would happen immediately happened, but dang I bet it was hilarious. I covered up for my little brother and claimed I did it myself trying to sharpen the knife. I kept the secret for 20 years before I told everyone and all the girls were like, "yeah, we figured it was something like that." 😊 But you have to cover for your sibs, of course!
