This was beautiful to see decorated. I visited in spring and it's much more interesting to see at Christmas.

Another fascinating video! I never get tired of a good Dickens tale! I love that painting "Dickens' Dream" and even though it's sad the painter passed before finishing, the unfinished nature seems somehow perfect. I'll have to see if there's an online image of it, I'd love a closer look. Curators have the best jobs, they are storytellers with the coolest visual aids!

Hi there ! Merry Christmas (it´s Christmas Eve) ! You´ll find a picture of it in many pictorial books on Dickens. The Pitkin Guides also use it for the cover (front and back) of their "The World of Dickens".

This is a delightful little gem of a museum. I always enjoy historical homes that take you back to earlier times. I’d love a chance to cook a meal in that kitchen, I learned to cook on an old wood burning stove…nothing beats it for baking and roasting.🖤🇨🇦

@@TheMuseumGuide That too, although for me the cooking is the most fun. I have a collection of antique kitchen tools that I like to use as well, including my Great Grandmother’s pudding mould. Each generation has done a “pudding stir” party every year to make the traditional fruit pudding, like the one shown here.🖤🇨🇦

My son's been reading A Christmas Carol at school. This place would make a great excuse to visit London for the day, if the imploding UK rail system allows it. Thanks.

I am sitting here absolutely amazed at the wonderful knowledge which you impart. My Husband John and I have been together 41 years now and are in our 70s!!! It is my hope that we can make a trip to England before we get too much older. We are a Gay couple and the past years have been such an adventure. Have lived in Philadelphia all this time. Oh...I can go on, can't I?? Thank you for sharing all of your knowledge!! Lawrie

Very informative. Thank you so much for your tour, and at the best time of year. Did they find out what Catherine's sister died of? What were the other Christmas books Dickens wrote? Did you know that Dickens' young daughter who died, is buried in the old part of Highgate Cemetery, and that Dickens always hoped to be buried with her? It is Queen Victoria who insisted on the Eternal separation, insisting that Dickens be buried in Poets Corner, of Westminster Abbey. Merry Christmas to you!

It took me a while, but I found what you are referring to! According to the Museum, it is a "A brass-toned cornucopia Bouquet Holder with an incised floral motif" "Popularised by the French court of Versailles during the reign of Louis XIV, Bouquet holders gained popularity in other European countries during the 1800s. The holder would have held fresh posies of flowers and would have been used by ladies at social occasions such as dinners, balls and the theatre. Although highly decorative, these items were also practical as they retained the flowers perfume and freshness, as well as protecting dress fabrics from the staining of pollen. Some examples of these holders, such as the one owned by Catherine, also included ingenious stands so that the flowers could be put down on a table whilst the owner danced. Catherine and Dickens were highly sociable during their marriage with Catherine accompanying the author to engagements such as attending the luxurious 1842 ‘Boz Ball’ in New York, held in her husband’s honour."

I saw much of what you shared in the movie *"The Man Who Invented Christmas"* . Question: Do you think Oliver Twist was inspired by Charles Dickens own hard childhood, due to his father's lack of financial responsibility?

Don't go to this place. We visited London last summer, and being from the US we got a little lost on the way there and arrived 2 minutes after the time on our tickets, and they refused to let us in. TWO MINUTES!!!! Bunch of pompous jerks!!!
