The deep richness of the soloist voice draws you in. I felt the story of the song being told and he shook me.

My hope is that they know the and history of this negro spiritual. It’s not just a song to sing because it sounds good or gives chills.

What’s the story?

@@diegoluisjimenezmorales2323 The people who would sing this spiritual were enslaved, and they quite literally could only hope for death. After death would come heaven, which is everlasting peace with God

With Tom Trenney as the Minister of Music (at the piano in this video), you can bet your bottom dollar that the singers understand and respect the history of this body of music, variously called Negro Spirituals, Jubilee Songs, Sorrow Songs, and, more modernly, African American Spirituals.

@@cardinalflower6959 I would agree with this.

1 am a pilgrim, a pilgrim of sorrow I'm left in this wide world, this wide world alone Ain't got no hope, got no hope for tomorrow I'm trying to make it, make heaven my home Sometimes I just don't know, which way to turn I heard of a city, of a city called heaven I'm trying to make it, make heaven my home Sometimes I just don't know, which way to turn I heard of a city, of a city called heaven I'm trying to make it, make heaven my home

As a trained musician congregant, I would SO appreciate it if your team could put up the words the choir is singing so we could all enjoy the lyrics also.

It's always fun to see the general race distribution of the choir when they mention this song being a black spiritual
