Where are you on the Howe question? Think for me it’s like this - I predicted at the start of the season we’d finish 7th and we did. And EH takes major credit for that because that prediction wasn’t factoring in a hellish injury crisis. But I can’t shake off the fact that we had 6th in our hands and showed such mental weakness that we just crumbled like a fucking cadburys flake. Brighton were on the beach and a manager with one foot out of the door, Man U and Chelsea had no issue beating them away but we had them at home and put in a fucking dismal showing. Man U should’ve won the game comfortably. Is it a mentality problem? I don’t know. On one hand I love Howe and proud he’s our manager. But do we need someone who’s not everyone’s best mate etc to take us to the next level. I can’t help but suspect just lacks that killer instinct to not just be a very good manager, but be a great one. As we’ve seen with longstaff and burn, he just doesn’t make the tough calls. I don’t know. It’s really frustrating.

On balance yes I think you’re right. It’s immaterial really, it’s what the owners reckon, and certainly the troops on the ground - Amanda, Jamie etc - seem to adore Howe, but it’ll be interested to see how Riyadh react, do they see European qualification as bare minimum? Because whilst 7th was achieved and with credit over all, you can’t deny we bottled 6th, and everyone including the manager has to face up to that one. All things being equal though, he’ll be coach come august. I just hope our best players are.
