I have a Boker tech tool 2. Very similar to the larger Ruike models. I really like it! Thanks for the video my friend!

Absolutely love the Ruike S-series. Such handy little knives. They also have spectacular heat treats on the 12C27; as in, approaching Spyderco VG-10. You can also get these on AliExpress with their original Sanrenmu badging; they are indeed sold under that name locally.

I agree. I’m a big fan of Ruike and love these little guys.

Thanks for the great comparison video. It showed me exactly what I wanted to know about that Ruike knife. I love my tiny Swiss Army knives, but I was looking for alternatives. I’ve looked for them previously and haven’t found any really good ones. But I think this might be it. It’s heavier and thicker, so that puts it in a different category for some, but my requirement is that it fits in the “watch pocket“ of my jeans, and has a knife, scissors, and a bottle opener. So the Swiss Army “classic“ actually doesn’t fit the bill, I prefer the “manager“. And that knife is slightly wider, and slightly heavier. It would be a better comparison. I think the additional weight and width is not that significant. But the heftier, knife and scissors seem appealing. The one thing I’ll miss though, and this is significant, it doesn’t have the toothpick and tweezers. When I first bought a Swiss Army knife, I didn’t even realize it had the toothpick and tweezers. But as it turns out, I use the toothpick more than anything else, and in those rare occurrences when you need some tweezers, there’s no substitute for tweezers. Even if they’re tiny. So the two knives have different pros and cons, but I can see that this Ruike knife will be a good addition to my collection. Thanks!

Hell yeah. I EDC the hell out of my Ruike LD-51 B. Iirc Victorinox does use a proprietary version of 14.116 steel and runs it incredibly soft so it holds its edge like warm butter. 12c27 isn't a super steel but at least its run at a higher hardness and holds its edge quite well. I've mostly just had to strop my blade

This was a good comparison! The Classic SD has been a staple on my keychain for years, and I don't see that ever changing. But this Ruike is a very neat little knife, I think I'd be pretty happy with one of these as a fifth pocket carry. Cheers, buddy!

Nice to have someone review the S series. However, comparison with the Vic Classic SD is really unfair IMO. For instance, the Vic is inconspicuous in urban settings that would strictly disallow the S31, precisely for it's tool selection and blade size. Also, the scissors in a Vic are widely accepted to be the gold standard all others are compared to. Nevertheless, I'm sure you'd agree that it's important to appreciate the thought process behind the design of a century-old pioneer in the business.

In my opinion, the large Ruike knives beat large victorinox in an even more impressive manner, especially because of the thickness of the tools and the G10 scales that are not snap-on like the celidor stuff from Victorinox. Also their liners aren't made from aluminium, I had victorinox snap-on scales and aluminium liners deform and snap off (and not fit properly thereafter) just from exposure in the sun when I was using them on a construction site (and I was just using the bottle opener and sometimes a screw driver nothing else!!!). You can also dye the g10 scales from Ruike knives and the end result is REALLY pretty. The only thing victorinox has going for them is designed scarcity of certain alox colors and collectability, but if my life depends on it, I take my Ruike LD-51 with me because, you know, the steel liners and the g10 scales don't flowering MELT when I leave it in the sun.

The Classic gives you the additional functionality of the file, toothpick and tweezers. Better yet, the Vic RAMBLER gives you the file, T&T, a caplifter and a small Phillips driver. Plus both the Classic and Rambler are significantly slimmer. Advantage Victorinox.

True, but the Ruike has a better blade and is sturdier. Depends what you’re looking for in the knife.
@Pavlentiy-xi1zt Жыл бұрын
So really you have to compare it with Victorinox Compact, not SD. And then you'll see that Compact is better. And SD is so good just because of it's size, it's really key chain thing.

You can compare with whatever you prefer. I used the Classic because it is the most popular SAK.

No idea why you would think this is a valid comparison when the Classic weighs 21 grams and the S31 52 grams. you could carry two Classic SDs and a mini BiC lighter for one of those. You could carry a Victorinox Cadet (at least a slightly more realistic comparison) and have 9 grams left to carry your house key and a lanyard for both. The cadet is less of a weight difference than the Victorinox 91mm Spartan is to the S31.

I don’t find the minute amount of extra weight too much of a strain on my body. And for the extra blade strength, it’s well worth it.
@thcrs1 Жыл бұрын
@@NorthStarKnifeReviews "minute" is just not the right word. its obviously not just about weight but volume and presence too. people have a limited amount of stuff they want filling their pockets and good reviews don't neglect that because in their particular case they have the space to spare. Why not consider another knife that is actually in its weight class as a hypothetical begs the question why are you even comparing the two at all? its like someone comparing a motorcycle to a car by the brands of the two vehicles instead of addressing the obvious and more important difference because to them they are already decided the larger car suited them. a good review actually considers that whole context.
@NorthStarKnifeReviews Жыл бұрын
@@thcrs1 I carry for edc, not for ultralight camping. The difference is less than an ounce. My concern is size and how easily it fits in a pocket, purse, etc. Others are welcome to prioritize other things and seek out channels that focus on those as well.
@thcrs1 Жыл бұрын
@@NorthStarKnifeReviews "The different is less than an ounce" (its actually 1.1 ounces btw) is a strange thing to say when the difference in other words is multiple times the entire weight of an object in question. I could by that 250+% weight difference compare the Victorinox Hunstman with 2 Classic SDs to spare to an S31 and say "I don’t find the minute amount of extra weight too much of a strain on my body. And for *whatever reason*, it’s well worth it.". A very fair comparison to the S31 would be the Leatherman Micra as it is 1 gram lighter and the roughly same size. I think a video on "why I switched to the S31 over the classic" would be cool as it acknowledges that its not just a straight up comparison but also what the person's carry context is. "classic killer" is just goofy as speaks to the larger market (where of course they aren't comparable) just be better about understanding your own perspective in future as a reviewer/youtuber.
@NorthStarKnifeReviews Жыл бұрын
@@thcrs1 most of the people I deal with are much less concerned about “1.1” ounces on a knife of this type. They’re concerns are pocketability, tools, and blade size. You are free to focus exclusively on your primary aspect and to do your reviews as you wish. I am sure you will also be disappointed in my other videos as well and I will attempt to soldier on.
