Before I knew of this short story; this year I told my brother that when my depression gets the best of me and my house is a mess; I like to go to my local Shopping centre and sit and enjoy for 60 minutes ; a well lit clean and tidy place. I think about the people who have the motivation and resolve to maintain such a place looking so neat and clean . I admire those people and for a moment I disassociated myself from the mess in my house which I know deep down represented my state of mind. Months later .. my house is now clean. I do the dishes everyday. I’m going to the gym three times a week. I haven’t gone to the shopping centre to appreciate the order and cleanliness ; memories of my now fresh and orderly home keep me motivated to maintain it. I still appreciate the janitors or cleaners as we call them in Australia. I will go and sit and take in the scene once again as a way to honour the silent motivators that got me through the worst of my depression. I’m at home now. And my house is now my clean , well lighted place.

I resonate a lot with you and just wanted to let you know you aren't alone. I and many others experience the same thing. It is like your own mind plays tricks on you and makes problems seem distant and foggy, but once you take a step back and clear your blurry vision, you realize the problem was very simple from the start. Godspeed my friend.

Great job! I have been reading this short story for an assignment. I got tears in my eyes at the end of this short film. The older waiter in the bar with Arcade Fire in the background hit me deep, even without ever being in that exact situation. Loneliness is universal sometimes.

Its about Alienation. And it tells us the life for an old man is not easy.. It will be meaningless.

It feels meaningless. The fact that he is the subject of a conversation is proof that he isn’t; meaningless

How did you interpret that the older waiter was the one assuming the old man's depressed for nothing? In the text, the beginning conversation doesn't show who said what Judging the younger waiter's hostility towards the old man throughout the text, wouldn't it be more logical that we understand the snarky comments came from the young guy?
