As someone who sews doll clothes, what made me interested in vintage barbie is the QUALITY they put into these fashions. Those dresses have tailoring on them! Real zippers, real buttons, LINING on the inside of coats, darts, pleats, etc. You would never, ever see that on a basic playline or a even a more expensive collector doll today.

Loved this review of my childhood Barbie era! The only point I would differ on is the shoes with Barbie-Q. I believe it came with white open-toe pumps. Closed-toe pumps weren’t around until 1965 (the last year I bought Barbie clothes back then.).

Barbie’s first wardrobe is easily my favorite of all of her clothes! I’m not quite done but I’ve been slowly building my own reproductions of them. Making barbie clothes is like half the reason I collect and completing her 1959 wardrobe is a passion project for me. I still have to make Easter parade, winter holiday, and then wedding day but oooo I can’t wait to have a full display of all the clothes!!! These original clothes were top notch quality! God, then Barbie actually wore real couture❣️❣️❣️❣️ps. LOVE the haircut!

@ Yes. I love the Peachy Fleecy since it can be paired with anything. I also love the lingeries and pajamas of this year. To think that they were part of the original line of fashions for Barbie speaks boldness and fearlessness of Mattel back then. Nowadays, apart from the degrading quality, the fashions are more sensitive and age appropriate. Thats why I love the vintage fashions.

♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ Happy New Year, Jack! 😘 In her early years, Barbie was a true Poupée de Mode! All those clothes, all those details, were full-scale reproductions of the fashion of those years. Instead today the Barbies in the playline have simple clothes with printed details... I just can't imagine how a child who plays with a Barbie today would want to do so also when she/he grows up... Of all those dresses, I only have the Barbie repro of the wedding dress made after the 35th anniversary. Thanks for this new video. 😘 ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥

Mattel used to go all out for Barbie in those early years and, like so many products today, being the cheapest option in the store is the most important thing. While I like that Barbie is affordable for a lot of families now, it’s a shame that the toys aren’t such high quality. ❤️❤️❤️❤️

Love this! So thorough and clear, and I love all the research and specificity naming the various items of clothing and accessories. I’ve seen some doll reviewers/reactors who have the enthusiasm but when it comes to specifics they just say things like “kind of a straw hat thing” or “looks like there’s a pattern somehow printed on the netting” (I’m like “duh it’s tulle you fulle!” 😂)… Things like this are all about the details, because that’s the essence of collecting and appreciating great moments in design culture, be it dolls and toys or fashion, cars, anything. Thanks for the informative fun vid! Regarding the 1st one ( Easter ) I found out by going through my mom’s 1960s photos when she was in her 20s, that women dressed up for Easter, donning hats, dresses & gloves, but there were no “Easter” colors like we have now. In fact there’s at least one photo of my little sister and me wearing red, black & white with little hats and white gloves dressed up for Easter. Dang we were adorable 😊. So that Barbie outfit makes perfect sense.

The details of the dress are very nice. She has always a bag or gloves. The cotton fabrics are from highy quality too. That's why the dress are still very good. We have 80s dress that are in bad conditon and still 60s outifts that are quite perfect. I can't find a rockers that has a nice white mini gown at exemple.

I didn't love every whitney / pj for options . Sometimes the hair looks better in the box. :)oh....do you come up with identities/ backstories for your barbies? I only have two barbies. Whitney has her own makeup/ clothing/ haircare line which she started in the 80s called " whitney wonder ". 1994 duty free barbie is her BFF mindy. When they get dunked for shampoo they are at the " spa". If ghetto barbie have too much superglue residue to keep their heads from wobbling, it's a plastic surgery gone wrong. My former jewel secrets whitney had that problem. Once I found a naked one at the thrift store!

I think it’s a totally fun idea to create this fantasy look based on historical fashion. And seeing that exposed petticoat with the puffy-sleeved gown looks really unique. I don’t have one so I can say much about the quality, but it’s definitely super pretty. ❤️❤️❤️❤️

Missing are Peachy Fleecy Coat, Undergarments, Floral Petticoat, Nighty Negligee, Sweet Dreams, and Sweater Girl. Don't buy the reproduction of Evening Splendor unless you really want the doll, because the dress and coat is made from a cheap looking printed lame fabric instead of woven brocade like the original. The vintage version is pretty reasonable because it was made for several years.
