The drugs in Terry Akers' room are NOT painkillers. Look at the label, it says "Alprazolam", a drug used for treating anxiety disorders.

Dang, should have looked that one up, but I guess with all the trouble with the editing software I had with this one I simply could not be asked anymore. Still fitting that Akers would take those.

@@umukzusgelos4834 Well, Akers being the psychopath that he is, it wouldn't surprise me that he just gouged out his eyeballs without any pain meds. I believe he was also consuming structure gel and already mutating at this point. There are photos of him escaping on a zeppelin bleeding profusely and apparently not wearing a diving suit.

It looks like the package is empty as well, suggesting he ran out of the medication.
@datdam-y8y19 күн бұрын
Just adding info: Alprazolam is more popularly known under the name Xanax. Also can confirm as a regular (legal, with a prescription!) user for years that skipping that med may cause you to gouge out your eyeballs LOL (kidding). It's also a widely used recreational drug (benzos) that you can buy from a dealer

I love how delta is so chill when squeezed between two super stressfull areas, namely the curie and theta. The whole game has brilliant pacing because this isn't the only time this happens. The train station at epsilon, the annex at omicron, the elevator ride into the abyss and finally the part at alpha. They all give you some breathing room after either some tense horror or some great story revelation. The climber ride especially is one of my favorite section in the game. The dialogue there is just fucking brilliant, and it has my favorite quote of the game. 'Things are different but we're still here' it's such an uplifting quote about going on.

I do recall Mr. Grip talking about something similar concerning the development of Dark Descent back in the day, where rooms such as the Backhall with the relaxing almost heavenly ambiance were inserted purposefully to serve as a counterbalance to the anxiety-filled segments that come right before and after It´s a psychological trick that helps you back into the anxiety if you will if you have a resting from wich you jump back in and prevents the player from getting used to the action too quickly

I thought Curie was honestly the most stressful section of the game. Tau and Theta were scary, but they were also fun in a way. Fleshers and Curie were outright horrible to me, just because of how unpredictable the fleshers were.

Also the amount of props and assets frictional made for this game is incredible. Especially give the small team size. They're all properly animated and coded, adding up to make a truly immersive experience! Soma is a game like no other
@umukzusgelos483427 күн бұрын
In SOMA in particular the environments have been crafted very delicately yes. Which is astounding since all of this probably took time, effort, money, lots of planning and discussing and is probably never going to be looked at by most players
@d00mnoodle27 күн бұрын
@@umukzusgelos4834 if I'm not mistaken the entirety of SOMA was still heavily in flux a year before release. If you look at pre-release footage/demo's the whole game is so different. So that makes it even more impressive that they made it this good once they settled for the final direction.

I love Soma so much. It feels like theres enough potential for another game.

Always around these months I like to look up more information of lore/stories of interesting games. Found your channel last year when I was on a SOMA binge. Although I'm not seeing your videos in my feed I decided drop by your channel and see what other closer look videos you've made. I'm only interested in your SOMA videos for now since no other game's lore peaks my interest such as SOMA's.

Great vid as always brother. I played this once when it came out and I was much younger and didn't fully pick up on or grasp a lot of the finer details or qualities of the game, so I spontaneously replayed it last month to see what I missed, and it only reaffirmed how great of a game this was. Even after replaying it though, you miss a lot of stuff since you're so amped up running from horrific monstrosities. Randomly found your vids this week and so glad I did; games like this that are built by such a skilled team with such attention to detail and intelligent design is rare, and its so satisfying to explore the details of such a carefully crafted piece of art. SOMA really is in a league of it's own I think, just too bad it could never reach real AAA status like the dark descent did.
@umukzusgelos483426 күн бұрын
Well Dark Descent has the lucky (or unlucky) position of being one of these typical KZbin-Games that grew big in fame by obnoxious but memorable famous people playing it and a bunch of their fans watching that and talking about it without ever having played it themselves. This of course draws a lot of attention but at the same time also distorts the impression of the game a little as most people nowadays don´t remember Amnesia The Dark Descent how it was but they remember certain KZbinrs dramatically screaming their lungs out for views, which now makes all subsequent titles released by Frictionalgames suffer because none of them can hold a candle to this aluded "Greatness" of the Myth that the Dark Descent has become. When SOMA released it almost went under the radar for most, I red countless reviews that touched on the subject matter a little bit before immediately regurgitating "but it´s not as scary as Amnesia, etc" only with time SOMA started to become it´s own thing and that´s good, since a considerable effort went into this project which makes it a waste to just be "the little less known brother of the Dark Descent"

I know its not about SOMA, but can you investigate the strange black figure in Penumbra overture ending? pls. i can sure tell its not black plague monster model. I just hope it's not just blank human model with a black color texture. That will be bad.

actually that is precisely what it is unfortunately, it is called the "base entrance man"
