The country house rugs were so out of proportion, weren’t they? In particular, an oval dining table & chairs sat on a rug that no chair could be pulled out even a couple inches and still be on the rug; whoever dined in them would be at an awkward angle with the chair’s front legs on the carpet and the back legs hanging awkwardly off …. I much preferred the Paris home.

Her Paris atelier is stunning. You can tell it is curated with things she loved. Thank you for your research and sharing. I'm wondering if her Riviera Villa is still owned by the company. I was surprised to see such and undersized rug beneath the dining table--it's proportion is woefully inadequate for both the room and the table. Pulling in and pushing out in those chairs is bound to be difficult and catching on the rug.

Yes, the villa is very underwhelming. It looks like all the money was spent on the build, and nothing left over to furnish it. Maybe she enjoyed the sparseness at home, but loved to be cocooned while working.

Loved this video!! First Givenchy, Lagerfeld now Chanel!!Well I like the Villa as it is very bright and airy . Beautiful manicured grounds and shrubberies with lovely views. Love the soft palettes she uses in most rooms and not overly cluttered. Although the one pink bedroom was a bit too pink!!The wallpaper was too much for me . I would tone down or redo the room feminine but not the pink she used . Otherwise just truly exquisite!! I have a couple of her fragrances Also have Estée Lauder, Gucci and Givenchy and Versace. The clothes a bit out of my price range . Don’t have No. 5 my mom did but wore it sparingly . Thanks CU for another lovely insight into Haute Couture. Mind you I do realize that if it is like 300 + resonses or some really high number it’s pretty difficult to respond to every comment . But I sincerely do enjoy your channel content immensely . Ever since I was a teenager I dreamt of designer clothes, fancy mansions Designer fragrances and jewellery. I was raised middle class -Upper middle class. Had everything but was not spoiled rotten . No car for my Sweet 16!! But since my parents passed in early 2000s they left me and my three older siblings sizeable sums of money and other things. Mom & dad god bleed them so we’re certainly not cash strapped. Anyhow you certainly caught my attention and have support and a loyal fan in me . Beautiful pictures well spoken in presentation and lovely appropriate background music. All making for the right ambience for Cultured Elegance!! Speaking of that I watched the Coronation of the new King & Queen Wow that was Cultured Elegance !! Will miss dear Queen Elizabeth. But Her heart was aching inside to be with her dear husband Prince Phillip of some 73 years marriage. Charles with support of Son & daughter in law Kate have it covered. The Prince & Princess of Wales will be splendid when they become the new King &Queen. Camilla was lovely at the Coronation and Kate can’t do wrong in anything she wears!! I prefer the apartment. I think it would be wonderful to spend every night at the Ritz, especially after working on her clothing designs during the day. The Villa would be nice for a getaway every once in a while and on holidays, but the apartment and the way it was right above her boutique was fantastic, especially for the purpose she designed it for. I imagine the Villa probably looked a lot more inviting after it was decorated for the holidays or for specific seasons or possibly parties.

After looking at her apartment I wonder who would like to sleep in such a place that is overcrowded with so many artifacts and pieces - that is just not a peaceful or soothing ambiance. Very elegant and tasteful homes but I’m a bit surprised that a woman who was an innovative fashion designer had such a classical style for her living space, rather than something more modern. I believe that homes where all the rooms lead directly into each other rather than using corridors or hallways is very common in France or, at least, Paris. There’s a lot to like in both homes but I particularly think that soft pink bathroom in the villa is gorgeous.

Love Chanel and her ideas are a constant inspiration for me. I have two rooms decorated in monochrome which could be one of her inspirations. I have always had a bottle of No:5 scent on my dressing table, in fact the only thing that was taken during a recent robbery at our house was just that and nothing else. Now wouldn't that make a good publicity and it's also true. At least it was an easy and delightful task to replace.

I too always have a bottle of No 5 on my dresser. I read somewhere yesterday that the design is based on Boy Capel's hip flask, which is quite likely true. His early death broke her heart and I don't believe she truly loved anyone after that. She is judged harshly but she was a survivor of the workhouse and the orphanage, so protected her own interests and that of her family during the Nazi occupation of Paris. Many others did the same.

Coco's Paris apartment is perfection. It is the epitome of subdued elegance. It seems to me that Coco put her heart into this apartment. It makes one wonder why she would leave it every night to stay at the Ritz. Well, it is the Ritz after all. When you see her home overlooking Monaco ( my favorite country) it's as if she lost interest in making it hers. I have used Chanel #5 ever since Catherine Deneuve did her famous commercial for the perfume. I wonder how much her Nazi lover liked the apartment ? P.S., In my humble opinion, I think that perfume should be put on so that it is only known that you are wearing it, when another person is kissing close.

The home on the Riviera is more of a home. The interiors of both homes are too fussy for my taste. The apartment at 31 Rue Cambon is like an addendum to her professional space. I enjoyed this informative video.😊 Whereas, I like certain Chanel pieces, I am not a fan of too much logo which is the direction the "brand" has gone to garner $ from a certain type of consumer whose identity is defined by commercial brands.

I prefer her Riviera villa - less cluttered. It seems that for her and many other designers, the real money was in the perfumes (Worth perfume is still around). She sold the perfumes and then tried to get her "friends" to get it back for her, but the owner had already sold it. Note: She was a Nazi sympathizer and informant. The major stake in Parfums Chanel had been sold to Pierre Wertheimer, but he "self-aryanized" his holdings and fled to the USA before she could get the occupation forces to get it back. She carried on an affair with Abwehr spy Baron Hans Gunther von Dincklage during the war. It seems her good friendship with Winston Churchill saved her. On a pleasant note, she was the mistress of the obscenely wealthy 2nd Duke of Westminster who sent her a large gift. When the gift turned out to be a box of heads of lettuce, she was furious. She was furious right up until she discovered the emeralds in each head!! Excellent video.

Such Beauty, Culture & ICONIC Fashion! Too bad that the Company (especially the Handbag Division), has been taken over by GREED & Shoddy Workmanship! The Prices keep rising & the Workmanship keeps declining! Many are swearing off the ICONIC Chanel Handbags! I have three & I have no plans to buy others! It breaks my heart but I'm done! I'm 73 & wanted a Chanel Double Flap since I was a little Girl in the 50s. I was able to purchase the three I have years ago, now, but with the changes that have been made in the Company, I have no plans to purchase anything else! As it is I'm having problems finding the Iconic Suiting I once Enjoyed! The Cost has gone up Ridiculously. Compared to the Artistry that used to go into the Garments & Leather Goods, it's a Sad presentation & no longer what I wish to contribute to.
