These homes are just mind blowing! Thank you for this nice respite from the ordinariness of the day!

Terrific! I've studied almost exclusively MM&W's architecture of that period, but of course come across Richard Morris Hunt's name zillions of times without knowing anything about him, other than some of the Vanderbilt houses he designed. Now I know much more!

Lovely video. FYI I was a guide at The Breakers in Newport. What you called the Ballroom is actually named “The Music Room”, although it was called the Ballroom in Fellowes’ “The Gilded Age”.

Love your videos Faith. You are so well informed and detailed about the history. Would you mind telling us some ways we can learn more about art/architecture like yourself? I love to watch these videos and step back in time. XO

Hunt went to Europe. Everything he then did in the US was just derivative. And his interiors are gaudy beyond words. No wonder Frank Lloyd Wright had such an influence.

FLW was an egotistical asshole, his work sucks, just like Pei, Van der Rohe and Phillip Johnson…..

Different styles are to appreciate in both tastes of design.
