Marta, You are an amazingly teacher. I am just starting out playing with Collagraphy which I consider the next step up from being a collage artist which has been my passion for years now. Thank you so much for your inspiration, you are brilliant. Keep up your generosity in sharing your skills. Warm regards Susie.

Thank you so much Susie, so happy to hear you are enjoying my videos and are feeling inspired. I am like you but the other way round, just recently discovered collage and I’m having so much fun sticking together bits of my collage paper I’ve been collecting. I think both techniques go really well hand in had. Happy printing 🤗🥳

...I made the first prints yesterday of the collagraph I cut without spilling blood (this is actually funnier than you think: the artwork is an art-deco style depiction of ... dracula). And it worked of course! I'm going to have to go back and fresh up on some of the products you use to stick the paper. I used glue spray to attach the cut out design to a piece of click laminate and then sprayed it with varnish before using it as a relief-style print. But I an see great potential in casting hard plastic moulds of it and making exact embossing folders. It is unbelievable; I can just wash away the paper and use it eternally. I managed to make 4 prints of it before I decided to try to wash it and one of the designs detached. But that's pretty good for a first try and I'm perfectly happy with the results. Just wanted to let you know how your films are echoing their way into people's lives outside of KZbin...

Marta, this is a very sophisticated print…love it!, One query: why didn’t you apply a thin layer of shellac before printing? I was surprised the ink didn’t clog up some textured intaglio areas however it seemed to wipe clean where you required so I guess it was the gloss type mediums which wiped light that gave you the contrast textures. Thank you for your such generous info in your videos…much appreciated.
@CollagraphPrinting
@CollagraphPrinting Жыл бұрын
Thank you Rosemary! Well, I used to use shellac, but I found it was not really necessary and spoiling some of my textures. If you are not editioning, then it won’t matter. I find I just do a couple of prints and move on to something different, so preserving the plate to last is not crucial. Yes I use gloss medium or varnish to show light areas

Thank you for posting such an informative video. I just loved both the results you showed. The creative layering of the thin textured papers was inspiring. I generally find that pasted papers can leave an annoying white halo which I usually overcome by wiping an inky finger round the edges but I'll definitely now try something thinner.

Die Kombination mit Monoprint ist toll. Wässerst du das Papier zwischendurch? Interessant wäre einmal den Unterschied zu sehen , wenn erst der Monoprint gemacht würde. Vielen Dank für die Mühe des Teilens . Immer super😊Ulrike

Thank you Urlike! I wet my paper in between if there is a time gap between the first and second run, which causes the paper to dry. If I have my monoprint ready straight away and my paper is still wet from the first run, then no need to wet it. You can just spray the paper with water and blot dry it, it should be enough. Of course you can do the monoprint first. In fact in my next video I will be demonstrating doing a photo transfer first and then printing a collagraph and monoprint after!

Really cool prints. I didn't think about spraying the back of the print to keep it malleable. So you probably wouldn't want to re-soak it as that might compromise the paper or risk ruining the under printing? I also didn't think about masking the color plate...then again, I'd probably have figured it out because I know I'd be unable to keep from adding sgraffito to it. I wonder if anything could be put under the first printing so you wouldn't have to flip it over holding the color plate to it...maybe a dense rubber pad or something? I've only done a few collagraphs thus far using a cheap press, but the results have been quite nice. Thanks for sharing your experiences and knowledge with us.

Thank you for watching, nice to hear from you! Yes, it’s probably best to just spray it to preserve what you already have. Actually you don’t really have to flip it, I didn’t in my most recent video and it was absolutely fine!

Such interesting combination of techniques and a fascinating result!! Love the monoprint coloring method on top. I have a newbie question, when you roll the print through, do you go once or twice? I.e. Do you go back once the plate have rolled through to the other side? I usually do but always worry about the plate moving. Also, I love the long format. 😍
