I see that you haven't kept up on the politics around English infrastructure projects. HS2 is a High Speed railway project that initially was supposed to be made to connect the northern parts of England to the south better, even at a point going all the way to Scotland but it keeps getting scaled back, delayed and diminished constantly so now it only goes about halfway the initial plan. Welcome back Ian, it's not the same seeing a new Stupendium song popping up on my recommendations when you're not here to watch it with us.

Fun fact: Schawbity (idk how to spell his name) was actually tied up at the end. He said in his video reaction of Stupendiums that they did tie him up and have him scream for help for added effect. He said in the parts where you see him silently yelling as Dan and Stupes is singing, he's saying something like "HELP I'M IN A STUPENDIUM VIDEO" and "THEY'RE GONNA RUN A TRAIN ON ME!" But I think he said they only kept where you can see him saying help me.

@@michaelflamel2611 TV Tropes's "Off The Rails" page mentions and links to another page that explains it in more detail on 1d4chan (because you can't actually look up the 1d4chan site because iirc the owner doesn't really want people randomly stumbling on the site when googling things vaguely related to it). For context on the name: The Henderson Scale of Plot Derailment is named after a Trail of Cthulhu story that earned the name of "Old Man Henderson". Basically what happens when a DM deliberately goes out of his way to be a dickhead to his players and one player wants some payback.

What Ian missed is that the train locomotive that Matt @ DatedRhyme built for Stupendium and DanBull differs from the train used in-game by the player character in one crucial point (which itself is a hint from the start that the song is _not_ about the game's protagonist, but about the island's cultists): Their train is not open at the rear and has no rearward gun to fight Choo-Choo Charles... ;-)

I think you could also argue that since you pick up the train when it has been abandoned for a period of time in a shed (unless my wires are crossed) that these are the OG-OG owners of the train and someone would later retrofit it to handle a weapons platform. Not saying you're wrong for your noticing that detail, but a little creativity makes it an extra fun experience!

Huh, in "Keep on screaming, pump the bellows", 'bellows' might be a metaphor for your lungs, and more certainly a reference to the use of bellows on old steam trains, but is there a mechanic in-game where you have to pump the bellows to outrun Charlie?

there were so many more train puns and doubles you missed here, for instance, "sleeping deep beneath the sleepers of the isle" Sleepers is another term for the wooden ties lad underneath the rails that keep them from moving closer together or further apart, "stop take stock" also refers to the fact that railway cars and locomotives are refered to as rolling stock, and "try to gauge the situation" the word gauge is also used as a term to describe the distance between the rails on a network, there's typically 3 different types on separate systems in a country (though there were multi-gauge rail lines in some places) Standard gauge is usually used to describe the most common used on a rail network, then there's narrow gauge and broad gauge, just to name a couple

Getting a new Stupes video often times is a double banger, since we get the new awesome song and video AND we get a new fun Insane Ian reaction! And honestly, this song is another masterpiece on Stupes' and Dan's end. The mechanical, industrial beat, the highly accurate and beautiful visuals and of course the PUNS!! Personally, on a second watch, the double line of "choo choo train coming after you, food chain's gone a bit askew" in the chorus is just so satisfying to me! That's the exact type of twisted cheekiness I like in these kinds of songs, as well as just being a great summary of the actual game. There is also this overt british-ness that the original game doesnt really have, but it just suits Stupes and Dan and their characters so well. And I think it also makes the contrast between the civilized, elegant life and horrific stream(engine) of nightmares stand out way more. Like (british accent)"Ah yes, off I go to my average 9-5! Oh dear, demonic horrors are approaching!" Just funny stuff. And your reaction is always great too :)

Thanks to your talk you missed the literal "If this takes more than five minutes I'll go quite mad!" *smash cut to "Five minutes later"* Oh, and words that are pronounced the same but spelled differently are "homophones" Puns - Here's all the ones I found: "The Sleepers of the Isle" - The wooden or concrete ties under train tracks are called sleepers. "When the Railway Strikes" - As in attacks, but also as in industrial action to renegotiate better wages/benefits. "Stop, take stock" - Train carriages are commonly referred to as "Rolling stock". "Try to gauge the situation" - Yes, he's pointing at a gauge, but also the distance between tracks is standardized per line, and is called the "Gauge" of the track. "The only train that's running" - On an improbable number of legs, as mentioned before. "Run away train!" - That's a triple! A runaway train is one that's out of control. Charles is a train with legs, so he is a literal "run" away train. And if you see him, you should definitely run away! The map features the Locom Ocean (Locomotion), the Autocra Sea (Autocracy), and something else I can't make out thanks to the picture covering it. "Mind the gap" - A common announcement at curved platforms (especially on the Underground) as the curved platform doesn't meet the straight carriage, leading to a dangerous gap. "Deplatformed" - Both a reference to having a social platform removed due to comments and actions, as well as it's a train, they stop at platforms. "Siding-hiding" - Sure the stuff that's on the outside of a building is often referred to as "Siding", but so are the short dead-end tracks used to store trains and carriages. "He's a dining car" - A carriage that serves food to passengers. Also, in this instance, a rail car that's dining on people. "We're gonna run a train on you!" - There's the sexual meaning, but in this particular case Charles is being powered by consuming people. "We've got a loco motive" - Trains are locomotives, but also "Loco" means insane in Spanish, so they have a crazy reason. "Choo-choopacabra" - "Choo-choo" is a play phrase for a train (also in the name of the game). Chupacabra is a famous Puerto Rican demon known for eating goats (Literally "Suck Goat") "Worse than leaves that he leaves on the line" - British trains are somewhat infamous for being brought to a standstill by leaves on the line, which bind fast to the rails when wet and cause steel train wheels to slip dangerously. "Off-Peak" - Outside working and/or busy hours (when demand is at it's peak) is described as "off-peak", and usually has cheaper fares. "The goriest express" - Reference to the Orient Express, one of the most opulent train routes run from Europe to China. "This train terminates here" - Said often in that exact cadence and with that exact accent, is used as an automated announcement when trains reach their final destination. Also, Charles is killing people (terminating them). From the chorus "Won't catch that train" - Usually when you meet your train at the station and successfully get on, you are said to have caught it. In this case, Charles is avoiding capture by extend of being able to leave the tracks, and also by killing everyone he comes across. "Got to serve breakfast for the morning service" - They're not talking about feeding the passengers here.

Dunno if this trick will help you out in the future, but I was taught that when doing military/24 hour time, the easiest way to figure out anything from after noon to 1 pm is to take the number and subtract 12. 18-12 = 6, for instance. Works for any time from noon to midnight, after which it is 0000 to 1259. Maybe not necessary to know, but I hope it helps!

Isn't 16 Tons actually a coal mine company town song, not a train song? Still a great reference, especially when steam trains are coal-fed. "take stock" is another pun. Wiki: "The term rolling stock in the rail transport industry refers to railway vehicles, including both powered and unpowered vehicles: for example, locomotives, freight and passenger cars (or coaches), and non-revenue cars. Passenger vehicles can be un-powered, or self-propelled, single or multiple units.[1][2][3][4] A connected series of railway vehicles is a train (this term applied to a locomotive is a common misnomer)."

I was looking forwards to your reaction on this one, its so good, and such a bop. The references you caught aside, I really like the whole pre-chorus of "light at the end of the tunnel, but instead of it being heaven it's a demonically possessed spider train." Also, in the game, the first encounter you have with Charles is when you're with an NPC father of another interactable NPC. You're both standing on the rear footplate of the engine, shooting at Charles, when he savages the dad and knocks him off "the back porch." of the train.

One probably already explained but idk but the line “the worth of your season ticket” is referring to how usually trains during certain seasons when the train is less popular they’ll Sell tickets for cheaper so even if the ticket is cheaper it will be even cheaper as less people will want to ride the train anyways because of what’s happening on the island

When I remember to do it, military time is easy. Just remove two and 10 (Which is 12, but easier to remember quickly). 2100? 1900, 900, 9pm. 2400? 22, 12, noon. 1700? 5 pm

there's actually an easier way to translate 24-hour time into 12-hour time you just take away the 1/turn the 2 into a 1 & then take away 2 from the second number so like 16 becomes 6 becomes 4 and 23 becomes 13 becomes 11 it sounds kind of complicated but honestly it's really simple in practice, at least for me

I want to say, you're not an idiot for needing to count it out for military time. It took me two years to get use to military time and even now I sometimes think 1500 is 5 p.m. and have to remind myself that does not look correct. Or you know... I know logically I need to type in 1300 and write 100 because it's technically true but also really not. This is how you accidentally book someone's appointment at 1 am in the morning.

Another thing When stupendium say “No this engine sends the scent of rendered flesh out from the flue.” The flues are just the boiler tubes found on steam powered machines especially steam locomotives that trainsport (pun intended) ashes from the firebox through the boiler to the front of the engine to the smokebox to be sent out the smokestack with the steam after it moved the locomotives pistons.

I think the deplaform thing is literally a train term. When a train comes off the rails. Trains De-Platform. And Charles is a spider train who doesn't use rails. You might have taken it too metaphorically. Made it too heavy. It doesn't make sense for Charles. They are scared of Charles. They have no time for pointless pissing about like that.
