The next surprising inclusion into the Kingdom is Saul. Saul was one of the chief persecutors and enemies of the Church, but in a dramatic encounter, Saul surrenders his life to Jesus. And then the Holy Spirit leads a disciple, Ananias, to baptize Saul and disciple him. Eventually another disciple, Barnabas, is led to introduce Saul to the Church and vouch for him.
How difficult must it have been for the Church to accept Saul to forgive him for the death of Stephen, and the fear and persecution he brought onto them. But this is interactive life together. Often we have to learn to forgive and accept people we’d never expect to. Suddenly our enemies become brothers and sisters with us. The question is: will we respond to the Spirit’s leading or not?
