Absolutely every detail anyone contemplating the purchase would want to know. Great comparison review. I'm also impressed with your cleaver opener and how you got the "Rickturns" flat to face the camera after powering off. I first thought it might have required many takes, but then again thought that the added weight of the material opposite the flat would add counterbalance ballast and gravity would consistently be your friend in getting the shot. I'm a videographer with a curiosity of such things. I'm also a woodworker with limited turning experience and a little afraid of bowl turning after a series of violent catches. I really need to practice more on my technique.

You’re right, Dan, it took many takes, and even then, I had to rotate the piece very slightly after it stopped. Thanks for watching!

Well for the past several years I have commenced to take up wood turning .... I live down in Cape Coral, Florida... I have a small work shop which houses all my wood working equipment to include my recently procured Jett 42. I have learned so much from your videos. I am now at that point where I must organize all my tools....so it was great seeing how you’ve organized your workshop....I wish I had as much space as you...my space is 8 x 15 ... and I am organizing.

Many blessings to you and your family as you make this move. My daughter and family live in Chesapeake. We were just there this Christmas. Hope things go well for you. Thanks for the info. I want to get a new face mask, but will have to wait until late spring or early summer as funds are low with Christmas and all. Hope to see you back soon.

Thanks for commenting, Danny. We’ve already moved back to Georgia...cost of housing is too high around DC where my daughter lived.

I WATCHED THE ENTIRE VIDEO because it is very interesting. QUESTIONS: 1. Can you still breathe without the fan running? 2. Can you remove that part on the Airshield PRO that comes in contact with your chin, skin & sweat and wash it? 3. Is there a filter for the Airshield PRO that is useful against the Corona Virus? Thanks very much for sharing this video. God Bless & Protect us all.
@RickTurnsWoodturning4 жыл бұрын
Yes, without the fan running, there is no problem breathing, although it does take a bit more effort, I think. The seal around the face is removable, and can be washed. I believe the filters (there are two) would certainly be more effective than a simple face mask. Hope this helps!

Thanks for the review. Trying to find out what I need to do to protect myself. I am a fairly new woodturner. I wish someone had explained the importance and management of dust earlier.
@RickTurnsWoodturning8 жыл бұрын
There are a variety of non-powered dust masks available, if cost is a consideration. Good luck with your turnings.

Rick, thanks for the review, it was extremely helpful in my decision making. If you're not a teacher, you should be. The subtle sarcasm of the make and model and your finale, totally enjoyable. Stay healthy.

Great review. My company has been at work on a PAPR with an all in one design monocoque manifold. Our aim is a PAPR that's more accessible to the DIY crowd. When we have certification, would you be willing to give it a try to compare? Its called MicroClimate Air3.

Rick. My Airshield Pro is great "except" the headband keeps breaking just aft of the turnbuckle. In four years I have replaced six headbands. Trend has sent me free headbands of different designs and material but they still keep breaking. I use the Airshield Pro every day in the shop with all the dust makers including my "Mustard "Monster". By the way Trend has a new smart charger for the battery, so that it doesn't continually charge a fully charged battery which could ruin the battery like it did with the old style charger. Good luck on your move. Richard (SKI) Kowalski

Hi, had one of these helmets for about 3 years and the main problem I have had is the head band breaking and the replacements have never fitted as well, I still wear my old aircap more than I do the trend I also find with the new head band is that it hurts my head more than the old one.

Thanks for the video. I have the pro version for 4 Year’s now. Is there a trick to removing the face shield guard/cover sheet? I need to get new ones for reasons you mentioned.
@RickTurnsWoodturning6 жыл бұрын
Hi, Ken. I've never removed the face shield itself. I have replaced the cover sheet, however. I've found that I have to unbutton some of the buttons on the flexible skirt to get the sheet in place.

Just purchased a never used Airshield (not Pro) but there are no battery packs with it. The one you demonstrated had a carrier which held 3 AA batteries. Can you suggest a source for 2 battery carriers? I intend to install AA Rechargeable Lithium batteries.
@RickTurnsWoodturning5 жыл бұрын
I got those battery holders from Amazon. They are still available. Here’s a link: amzn.to/2SEGWdC. I used them with rechargeables also.

I've lived in both Duluth and Alexandria. You're in for a big change in culture!
@RickTurnsWoodturning9 жыл бұрын
Yes, it's a lot more urban up here! The one thing that hasn't changed, much to my disappointment, is the weather...I was hoping for cooler weather. Must be all the hot air generated by Congress.
@christschool9 жыл бұрын
RickTurns I also lived in Falls Church. It's hot in the summer there. Duluth has a lot of mountain air coming down. I loved my time in N. Va. It was my favorite place I've lived (1999-2005). You're more likely to have snow there than ice, which is a blessing. D.C. metro area is much larger in terms of population than Atlanta, but I always felt Atlanta traffic was worst.

RickTurns One other thing. If you want to taste the best chicken you've ever eaten, IMHO, go to El Polo Rico 932 N Kenmore St Arlington, VA 22201

+christschool Thanks for the tip! We'll try that out. My daughter has lived in DC for quite a few years (her new babies are why my wife and I moved here), and has taken us to a chicken-only restaurant called Nando's. It's quite good.

Could it filter diesel fumes on fish boat and work on deck high pace for 12 hours does the fan have to run constant
@RickTurnsWoodturning4 жыл бұрын
The fan does run constantly, and only lasts for about four hours. I don’t know if it would filter out diesel fumes. I suspect it would be quite uncomfortable to wear for 12 hours. It would also be annoying, I think, if you were quite active while wearing it.
@scottyV10002 жыл бұрын
The filtration is for dust - not fumes. You would need something with carbon cartridges but the other concern would be carbon monoxide and you would need an air supplying setup for that.
@ricchavens58586 жыл бұрын
Just came across this video. It's been a couple years since the video and was wondering how your extended use of the Airshield Pro has been going. Also how is the comfort of the fan sound Does it get annoying? Do you use it with ear proterction like ear plugs or noise canceling headphones?
@RickTurnsWoodturning6 жыл бұрын
The fan noise isn’t bad at all. The Pro is much more comfortable than its predecessor, and the battery pack lasts longer. I can highly recommend it.

@thrinfo7 жыл бұрын
Tried the 3M and dont like it for that reason, but never tried Airshield, just regular face shield, before thinking buying one $$$ got to be sure before. Thanks
@fred_derf6 жыл бұрын
With this sort of design a beard isn't an issue. There is positive airflow into the face area that is allowed to "leak out" from around the mask. The beard allows more air to escape around the chin but that's not a problem as the air escaping from around the edges of the mask is part of the design. With a passive mask, for comparison, you are drawing air into the mask by breathing in (creating a negative pressure area) so you need the mask to seal around your face so that the air is drawn through the filter -- which the beard interferes with.

Hi, John. Sorry it's taken me so long to see your comment. I'm living just south of 495, off of Telegraph Rd. We're renting here for a year, while my daughter has her two babies (they were just delivered yesterday). It's nice up here, but the housing prices are sky high!
