honestly its a sign of the changing times. they used to 'queer code' villains in cartoons a lot before i wanna say 2008 ish. jafar, scar, etc,. they've all got a sort of sassy gay/queer vibe about them. it was meant to be off putting and wierd. then the times changed, and queerness is no longer off putting to a modern audience now it reads as sassy, seductive and confident.

So looking into it, I think Thrax might specifically be a form of Inhalation Anthrax since he gave cold and flu like symptoms. He's powerful in the movie because Anthrax is deadly if not treated swiftly, and Thrax is hot because the disease is rare.

Tbf the whole goal of the film is to encourage good hygiene practices. The entire point is to elicit disgust for the real world actions that lead to health issues to increase the chances that you’ll think "ew" and stop doing them, because otherwise they won't feel dire to you. The effect of someone casually covering their mouth with their hand when they cough vs me adding uncomfortable overplayed sounds and visuals to emphasize the action is vastly different: One of those you'll probably overlook without realizing it, and the other forces you to experience every nasty exaggerated detail in real time. That coupled with the fact that it's also meant for kids means it was genuinely so gross. Message received 🤢
