I gain stage with the knobs in the channel rack and the direct volume knob in each vst used. Vu meters are good for wav files and vocals.

Another gain staging video where the creator is not showing how to gain stage drums because they can't be gain staged with the VU meter. By the time you get to OVU,the drum is already clipping.
