My husband and I just came back from the island we stayed on the French side at Secrets all inclusive and it was terrible. Beach was nice but landscape surrounding dry and brown, this hotel was terrible food and service and no entertainment so we checked out and went to Anguilla which was AMAZING. We stayed at Zemi beach house OMG so fantastic most beautiful beach and spa is top notch and sushi was the best ever. Their BBQ on Thursday nights was average. We went back to Sint Maarten and stayed at the Morgan we had a oceanfront suite view incredible, restaurant in the hotel Salt wasn’t that great for lunch or breakfast but there’s local places all around you can go, we went next door and ate dinner at. Sandbar it was good food and strong drink. A must is Skip Jacks, so good we went twice and good prices large portions. The Red Piano is a must we had so much fun and highly recommend. Wish we had more time to explore 7 days too short so we will return. Safe island nobody bothers you which we loved other islands we’ve been to your bombarded by people selling you all the same stuff or begging for money, this island is not like that. We even looked at your Anguilla video and went to the art studio you recommended the owner is so nice and helpful and we took your advice on a couple of other spots also, check out lux travels videos if your visiting Sint Maarten or Anguilla they were spot on with their recommendations. Thanks for your information it’s very helpful,

Your video ws truly interesting. But, how come the dutch side is not using the Euro?
@TheTravelingIslandGirl2 жыл бұрын
Because we depend largely on tourism and the majority of our tourists come from the US. We are not the only Dutch island to be using US Dollars instead of Euros either. All the other islands have adopted the US dollar as their currency. We also do not speak Dutch on the Dutch side. English is the spoken language on Saba and Statia as well. Papiamento is the spoken language in Bonaire, Aruba and Curaçao

Just got back, going back in a couple months. We found that the French side accepted credit cards more than the Dutch side but atms are readily available all over. We have stayed on both sides of the island and love them both for their own flair. My big advice is don't just eat burger and fries. DO eat the Creole island cuisine at the LOLOs (Locally owed/Locally operated). We had Creole curry, especially at Friar's Bay, that was out of this world! Oh and we loved the roosters crowing in the morning near our airbnb.

@@bigh1605 You are correct. The St. Maarten Electronic Health Authorization System (EHAS) requires you to fill out and submit an online form no more than 72 hours prior to arrival. There is also a small fee per person for the insurance. Just google it for the entry requirements (vaccinated, etc). It is easy to do and the people processing the forms work 24/7 so you usually don't have to wait more than 12 hours for a response.

Best to use a taxi upon arrival if you did not rent a car. But renting a car is the best way to explore the island. Also, the Morgan Resort has an airport shuttle and so does a few other resorts in the area, of I’m not mistaken. You’ll need to ask the resort directly.

One thing I would add is to avoid arriving in Philipsburg by ferry! I guess the cruise liners are processed much faster but you get off the ferry from Statia or Saba and it can be 1.5 hours to process thru immigrations, all the while lined up on a concrete dock with no shade from the midday sun. Immigrations on Statia and Saba are fast and efficient but oh my god the officers at the marina are ridiculously slow and bad-tempered. I will fly if I have to visit again.

Lo único que no me gusta es que sean tan exigentes con la pronunciación del nombre de la Isla cuando uno habla otro idioma, es como no dar chance a equivocarse. Es como exigir a un Francés que pronuncie bien mi nombre. So weird!
