I think that the movie is ok but the most important thing is that BOB DYLAN allowed for people to make movies about him, his organization is very tight in securing his image, and that´s the problem of this movie, is all about selling the icon but not showing the man., in that regards i really would like a movie about Phil Oachs cause his life really was a tragedy, he was a cursed artist
@PriceofReasonКүн бұрын
That's interesting. I think you may be on to something when it comes to Dylan's image.
@frankkovacs621447 минут бұрын
Spot on take. I'd love to have seen a movie about the Last Days of the Beats in NYC, how the commercialization of their lifestyle and music led to the destruction of a once-vivid place where you needed no money and could sleep on people's floors (Dylan actually did) and sing for change just starting out. By the end of the decade, the village was a tourist trap and you needed a fortune just to buy lunch. THAT would have been a good movie. But it was not on the screen. Shucks.

Well, I liked the movie. Probably because I was there. I doubt you were. I was born in 1950. This movie took me back to some of my fondest memories. Movies aren't just about the acting, editing or directing, etc. Mostly they're about how they make people feel. This one made me feel good.

That's fair and as somebody that has lived in NYC many years ago, I did enjoy the West Village atmosphere and period piece setting of the movie. I said that in the review as well. Just thought it could have been better.

I haven’t seen this film since I’m not a fan of Bob Dylan’s music, but I also am not a huge fan of Timothée Chalamet. He’s a fine actor, but he’s one of those guys who is hyped up as if he’s unbelievable at everything he does and yet I feel he’s alright and maybe even someone else could have played his character in some of the films he’s in as he wasn’t as exceptional as people say. Having said all that, Bob Dylan is an interesting person, even if I’m not a big fan of the guys music and I felt that someone else should have played him from the moment it was announced who was playing Dylan, though I can’t think off hand who in their 20s or early 30s could have played Dylan, of course if the writing was better as you say it’s not great then maybe Chalamet would be more convincing as Dylan. I like the other performers quite a bit, particularly Edward Norton, even if he is someone who isn’t the easiest actor to work with as he’s known to clash with directors. Thank you for giving your thoughts on this film as I know this film got a lot of praise, but I was curious as to how it actually was beyond what mainstream critics say. I also noticed not too long ago that Adrien Brody beat Timothée Chalamet at the Golden Globes for Best Actor in a Drama in the 3½ hour film The Brutalist. I’ve not seen The Brutalist but it’s quite interesting that the first major award ceremony as we get to the Academy Awards has come and gone while this film doesn’t seem to have won anything at the Golden Globes. Many people wanted to see Chalamet to win, but it may be for the best he didn’t win and perhaps if what “awards experts” say is correct, then maybe Brody will win his second Oscar. Maybe Norton will finally win an Oscar for his role in this film, he’s a good enough actor to get one, but with how the Academy can be, the best often lose or aren’t even nominated in the first place. Thanks for your review Price, Happy 2025 and have a great night!
@PriceofReasonКүн бұрын
Thanks Jared! I think Norton is worthy of an award for this movie but the movie itself is flawed so not sure he'll actually win. Chalamet performance falls short and it would really surprise me if he won major awards but I suppose anything is possible.
@joshuacalkinsКүн бұрын
Award ceremonies love to honor their favorite people, so I bet they like effeminate modern Timothee better than the complicated and difficult Edward Norton., but it’d be nice to honor quality.
@Jared_WignallКүн бұрын

@@PriceofReasonI always thought Norton would be the best performer in the film, since Norton has always done quality work and I think you’re right that Chalamet likely won’t win any awards, but strange things do happen with award ceremonies like Oscars. Tim might be one of those actors I’d enjoy more if I didn’t recognize him. He was a decent Paul Atreides, so all the more reason I don’t want to taint those movies by getting more perspective on him. On the one hand, I'm glad to see movies like this that aren't yet another corporate product of a tired franchise. On the other hand, it seems like an unimaginative genre biopic stroking a celebrity from the 'approved' list, and I'm frustrated wondering where this version of Mangold was when it came to Indy 5. Maybe I'm just cynical, or maybe I've consumed too much media, but I'm just so bored . . . I can't think of the last time I saw an original idea from Hollywood, and I'm sort of past anime and K-dramas, etc., as well. What does that leave? Anyway, cheers and thanks for the video!

I may detest Dylan's music (isn't my thing) but I would have seen this but for a couple of concerns. I find that most biopics tend to gloss over too much and especially this seems true when it comes to historical icons. I know people may say that I'm not allowed to judge the movie because I don't like the music, but I can separate my feelings and focus on the movie itself. I really don't think Tim has EVER been cast in anything that meets his own specific needs/style, either. I had bet that this movie wouldn't hit hard with Bob's beginnings and it seems like I was right XD Lovely review, Price! Always appreciate your candidness as well as your charity toward the actors and actresses.

For God' sake, the crappy A.I. voice on this video pronounces Woody Guthrie's last name as "Gunthrie." All of the actors in this film do their own singing and playing, which raises the degree of difficulty in preparing for their roles way beyond any of their fellow nominees this awards season.

If you see a "soy latte kardashian dude" then yeah you can't buy him as Dylan, but as someone who didn't even know he was dating a kardashian before this, I thought he did have a good enough edge to him for me to get his role and what it represented. No. Bob was literally a boy. 20 when he stepped foot in NYC. 24 when he went electric. THAT is literally why people were shocked by his output. Chalamet looking young with a similar jaw was probably the only skilled enough actor who looks that young- who could have played this role. Geez.

Never liked Dylan's voice, but hugely respected his ability as a song writer. Unbelievable talent in that regard! Having said that, Dylan was not an attractive man. To have him played by a pretty boy is absurd. Plenty of actors out there with looks that would be far closer to Dylan. In fact, this should have been a search on the part of the filmmakers. Not to pick the latest popular flavor of the last few years and ignore what made Dylan a talent and definitely a peculiar looking one at that. It's about the whole package, not who's the most popular actor at the moment. I will not watch. Mainly because Chalamet is a distraction not an embodiment.

Dylan was kind of cute when he was younger. A bit scrawny, but he had attitude. It was a great movie. Even my Gen Z son loved it. He spontaneously clapped! And he only has a passing familiarity. I however, know more nuance and detail about Dylan as is possible and trust me- Chalamet nailed it. The mannerisms, vocal idiosyncrasies everything.
@scbs776816 сағат бұрын
I think he looks pretty similar to young Dylan in the movie but I agree. Dylan was totally the Bieber of his day however before the Beatles. I don’t mean Bieber musically because bob dylan was iconic and an extremely talented musician and Bieber not so much, however the level of fame Dylan had especially with the ladies was actually on the level. He was seen as a rebel, a living icon, a bad boy for the day so women loved him and he’d be swarmed by people wherever he went.
