I almost passed out from laughing at the juice conversation my lord 😂 // In my opinion, it’s flavoured water because the flavour of something has been taken and added to the water, juice is when it’s directly taken from the source. We use apples to make apple juice but you can add artificial flavours to water, your not taking the original item and putting it in the water (I don’t know if that makes sense to anyone else, just how my brain sees it)

My Norwegian brain is melting with this. We have a whole different concept of flavoured water with concentrated syrup that you blend with a bunch of water, and it even has it's own word, "saft". Why can't the English language just follow our lead and add a new word? 🤧

It makes sense to me. Imagine someone ask you do you want juice and you're expecting apple or orange juice and they give you flavoured water... I'd be pissed because yes all that we drink has water in it but if both normal juice and flavoured water was labeled juice how could you order it at a restaurant? It would be so complicated

I don't think flavored water is juice. Juice comes from a fruit or a vegetable. Flavored water is adding artificially flavored powder into your water. Therefore, flavored water is not juice. Thank you for coming to my Ted Talk.

The phrase: "almost only counts in horseshoes and handgrenades" is basically a way of saying someone didnt try hard enough, or that just because they were close, doesn't mean it counts. So they shouldn't brag. "I almost had an A in math!" "I almost ran a mile!" "I almost caught a shiny!" "I almost beat that boss!" "I almost got away with it!" But almost only counts in horseshoes and hand grenades.

But mainly, especially in older days, you'll hear it when someone would lose a bet. The loser might argue that they almost won or that it was close... but that wouldn't matter as they still lost the bet. Hence the saying.

actually we studied the topic of how long bubble gum flavors last in school. how long a piece of gum lasts depends on how acidic your saliva is. for me, gum usually lasts 55 minutes to 1 hour. some of my classmates only lasted about 5-20 minutes. I do think juicy fruit is just made horribly and that’s why it looses flavoring so fast.

Fun fact; there are potentially other flavors of cotton candy. I remember that growing up, my parents bought me this toy that could allow someone to melt down hard candy, like peppermint or Jolly Ranchers, and then turn it into cotton candy. I also remember that the toy broke very quickly, but it is possible.

When I thought of powder I thought of Jinx from League of Legends. Then I thought of the time one of my cousins would take the candy powder from the baby bottle candy and put it in water to drink after she took her really bitter medicine. on the cotton candy argument: it’s the same as bubblegum, the default flavor of bubblegum things is just bubblegum but you have a ton of different flavors of bubblegum. hubba bubba (a bubblegum brand) has blue raspberry, grape, green apple, etc just like how cotton candy has the default flavor of cotton candy but there are different flavors as Ross mentioned

To answer the cotton candy: It essentially is melted candy being spun real quickly and the strings of melted candy is what your gather in bags. Some cotton candy makers have the option to put in any hard candy like jolly ranchers and it will have the flavor of the jolly rancher

I wouldn't say flavoured water is juice myself, especially given the definition of juice ross had said in the video. The prime example i would use is look at the labels of most flavored waters, seltzers and such and you'll see more often than not they have "Contains 0% Juice" printed on them, leaving them incapable of being thought of as a juice, as they contain no juice.

I think powdered juice is juice, because the process of making powdered juice is by de hydrating fruit and grounding it, so by adding the powder into the water it rehydrates it making it juice, it might not be the same like rehydrating a raisin but it’s still technically juice chemically

On the topic of flavored water being or not being juice, I see flavored water as flavored water because for it to be juice to me it has to come from the source and if it doesn't come from the source then it needs to be considered as something else. also on the topic about gum and why it doesn't last longer, I feel like that's a marketing tactic to get the consumer to either buy more gum or it might be like how they down size food ever so often but don't change the price of it and make you think you're getting the same amount of product you've always have.

Juice and flavored water is different. As someone has said juice is from the source where as flavored water isn't. I'll add cherry flavored mio to my water, but not a cherry to my water, cause that's not juice (or cherry flavored water), thats just water with a cherry. To get cherry juice (if there is any), one would have to squeeze the liquid out of the cherry.

This is mostly for Ross, but I'll open it up to anyone who cares. Gum really only exists as three distinct flavors: sweet, fruity, and minty. Sometimes you get combos of them, but they all fall within those three parameters. So my question is: what if there was a savory gum? I had this idea a few weeks ago, and I had mixed reception from everyone I told. I think having, for example, a turkey-flavored gum would be interesting if you aren't hungry enough for a sandwich but craving the flavor. Would you try this Wonka-esque gum?

Here's my take on it. There is Soda Flavored Water Packets for Root Beer and 7-Up. However their is a lot more of it as a Juice so I would say Juice but also it could be like a Soda Water in a way. Though that's just how it is for me cause I drink a lot of those flavor Packets with water.

Although for the last topic I will be agreeing with Ross on this one, I’m fine with the term “flavored water” And as for the topic of cotton candy I have another word to add as a description that being, disappointing. Cartoons made it seem like a fluffy cloud candy with a marshmallow/gummy consistency but when I had it for the first time as soon as it touched my tongue, it just freaking dissolved into hard sugar.
