Absolutely! He would devastate Shiva's lies. That's why she refuses to debate with any scientists or real farmers. They hate her dishonesty. About the anti-biotech activist Vandana Shiva: *Shiva has attracted intense criticism from the scientific community for perpetuating long-debunked myths about agriculture, biotechnology and food safety. * "Shiva is scheduled to speak in late January at Stanford University and the University of California, Santa Cruz on “equitable and sustainable” farming methods. Her positions on a variety of issues have irked and at times outraged scientists who consider her a disseminator of misinformation who profits at the rate of $40,000 a lecture (or more) to spread propaganda critical of mainstream views of biotechnology. Raised in prosperity, this Indian Brahmin was formally trained as a philosopher, embracing and promoting a form of Quantum Theory that is now widely dismissed. She often falsely claims that she is a trained physicist, and those false ‘scientific’ credentials are often echoed by her supporters. The GLP has carried numerous articles about her history of misstatements and fabrications (here, here, here). She was the subject of a scathing critique, “Seeds of Doubt,” by Michael Specter of The New Yorker, which documented her history of misleading claims and what Specter maintained often verged on anti-science gibberish. For more than three decades, she has relentlessly campaigned against globalization, focusing on food and agriculture socio-economic issues and an opposition to GMOs, free trade and intellectual property rights. She alternately promotes land redistribution, indigenous and peasant farmers’ rights, organic-only food production and ayurvedic health practices over conventional medicines, all of which she characterizes as an “earth democracy” movement necessary to restore “harmony,” people and nature. Shiva receives financial backing from high-profile activist groups such as the Center for Food Safety, which shares offices with her in Washington. Among her most controversial talking points is her false claim that there was no hunger in India prior to the Green Revolution. The truth is almost 180 degrees the opposite, as the Green Revolution, marked in part by the introduction of synthetic chemical fertilizers and pesticides enable massive increases in food production. A recent review of the evidence shows, “the production of cereal crops tripled during this period, with only a 30% increase in land area cultivated.” Shiva also blames the Green Revolution for increasing poverty, indebtedness and despair among farmers. Her notorious allegation that the introduction of insect-resistant GMO crops in India led many farmers to commit suicide has been evaluated and dismissed as inaccurate. Shiva is also a fierce opponent of so-called Golden Rice, a crop engineered to combat vitamin A deficiency in developing countries. In response to the scheduling of her two talks at Stanford and UC Santa Cruz, 39 scientists from around the world co-authored an open letter to both universities protesting the invitations. The signatories told the GLP that their aim is to alert the events’ organizers, participants and attendees to the numerous falsehoods in Shiva’s philosophy. @@nickxcore74 Shiva is not a scientist in any field she blathers about! Gates would wipe the floor with her. Everywhere she goes she avoids any candid conversations off the stage. She refuses to speak with real farmers and real scientists and the open letter from 39 scientists I posted above is saying far more about this than I ever could. Look at the account of a crop scientist who attended one of Shiva's $40,000 lectures - she had no response to his confrontation in the Q&A session. "While I appreciate Vandana Shiva’s passion for the environment and crop diversity, most of her claims have been readily debunked. Her campaigns are subsidized by millions of dollars of contributions by organic food companies to spread lies about conventional agriculture to push an agenda. In my opinion, it is admirable if someone chooses to be an organic farmer-there are many ways to address food security issues as long as we promote cooperation and coexistence-but there is something wrong with lying to people for profit, such as her debunked claims that GMOs are provoking Indian farmers to commit suicide. [Read GLP GMO FAQ addressing Shiva’s accusation]. She doesn’t back up her claims with reputable evidence and what she claims about conventional agriculture isn’t backed by science. Needless to say, a huge percentage of what came out of Shiva’s mouth was myths and misrepresentations. She spent a lot of time tearing into Norman Borlaug, the scientist and ‘father of the Green Revolution-he was awarded the Nobel Peace Prize, the Presidential Medal of Freedom and the Congressional Gold Medal before his death-and is credited with saving hundreds of millions of lives, and accused farmers of being “the last caretakers of the land.” Seriously? Who does that? Shiva is no friend to modern farmers or technology. Her misinformation was appalling and needless to say I was not impressed. It was painful to sit through her nonsense, and the whole time I was wondering if she has ever even ridden in a combine or ever been to a large scale farm a day in her life. While she railed against “industrial, chemically intensive agriculture,” I wish she knew that farmers today are using less toxic chemicals than ever before. When complaining about soil and water quality, I wish she would connect with us and learn that farmers enroll in conservation programs and are the ultimate stewards of the land. Organic and conventional farms have a lot in common: both types of farms may or may not use chemicals, both types can do conservation methods like soil testing, crop rotation, cover crops, etc. This is not the agenda she had though. Apparently only organic farmers are concerned about sustainability, which couldn’t be further from the truth. Shiva also shared the myth that GMOs kill bees, all while completely ignoring the fact that GMOs eliminate our need to spray insecticides, which helps beneficial insects. GMOs cause suicides, Monsanto is trying to poison everyone, monocultures! Patents! Seed saving! The list of myths goes on. The reality is that farmers have hundreds of seed companies to choose from, all different types of crops can have patents including organic, and today’s farmers don’t want to save seeds. My head was spinning with how disconnected she is to modern farming and how much she really doesn’t understand our industry, while she gets paid to talk about this with no formal training or educational background in agriculture. Say what, now? But there was hope! I was happy to know that there was a Q&A afterwards and I wasn’t going to sit back and let Shiva’s false accusations go without saying something. I encouraged everyone to connect with us as farmers. I took issue with her referring to pesticides as “poison,” as organic production uses pesticides too, and they are sometimes more toxic and more frequently used than the chemicals used by non-organic farmers. By her definition ALL food would be poison, but as any scientist would tell you, it’s the dose that makes the poison. I mentioned that when we spray the herbicide glyphosate (Monsanto’s Roundup) on our fields it is at a rate of 22 ounces per acre, which is less than 2 soda cans over an area of land the size of a football field. We only spray two days out of an entire year. Simply said, the food conventional farmers grow is not scary. It’s thanks to biotechnology that we are using less chemicals than ever before and no longer having to spray insecticides, which HELPS beneficial insects like bees, and does not hurt them as she misleadingly claimed. Our farm holds the award for “Iowa farmers of the year” in soil and water conservation because, as a result of modern technology including the use of genetically modified seeds, we use no till, cover crops and crop rotation. Biotechnology is doing great things for farmers and allows us to grow more food on less land while using less water, fuel, and inputs. Shiva gave me the stink eye but didn’t say a word while I was speaking, other than “thanks.” I really didn’t know what to expect from the crowd, but surprisingly, I was applauded! After I left I was approached by a group of people who thanked me. They said “You did a great job. I applaud your bravery. We appreciate hearing multiple sides of a story. You are welcome here,” etc. It was great. I was also approached by a security guard who wanted me to be aware that he would be following me around a bit to ensure my safety in case anyone tried to cause trouble. He even walked me to my car so that was nice. Surprisingly, not a single hater. None. I want to share this story to encourage you all to stand up for the truth. For farmers, agronomists, scientists, etc speaking up HAS to be a part of our job description nowadays. We are the experts, we are the ones that have the most education and firsthand expertise on the topic. Don’t let misinformed activists tell our stories and don’t be afraid to step out of your comfort zone. A situation that looks intimidating could be the best opportunity to educate. If we all do our part to advocate for science and agriculture, we CAN make a difference." geneticliteracyproject.org/2016/11/21/iowa-farmer-challenges-activist-vandana-shiva-myth-filled-anti-gmo-lecture/

@@nickxcore74 First hand account of Shiva refusing to even lock eyes with modern agriculture supporters, let alone have a dialog with them: "On an uncharacteristically sunny afternoon in Salem, Oregon, Dr. Vandana Shiva came face to face with science activism. We, the protesters, were a self-described bunch of science nerds from MAMyths, Vegan GMO, and PDX Skeptics in the Pub. We gathered in front of Willamette University across the street from Oregon s state capitol building around 6 pm. One by one, our allies arrived in carpools assigned at the previous evening s meeting in the upstairs lounge of a Northeast Portland pool hall. There, we had reflected on our experiences during a counter-demonstration at the March Against Monsanto last May. We had discussed communication strategies that a few of us practiced in the Alliance for Science s recent course on Strategic Planning and Effective Grassroots Organizing in Mexico. We aimed to keep our message friendly, approachable, and positive. The next day in Salem, when car trunks popped open and our posters came out, our slogans reflected a theme quite different from the fear-mongering we often see: Don t start a fight. Start a conversation. Food Facts. Not Fear. Ask me why I [heart] GMOs. These signs provoked a variety of reactions from people headed into Dr. Shiva s presentation. She d been invited to speak at Willamette University as part of the Dempsey Lecture Series. Prior details about the specific topic of her presentation were scant. Dr. Shiva speaks on a wide variety of topics, many of which I find agreeable in principle. We were not there to argue against her philosophy or politics. We were there simply to counter the misinformation she s been known to spread about genetic engineering. Some of the attendees were angry to see us. Some were curious. But most seemed simply surprised to see a grassroots pro-GE demonstration. For many, this was the first time they had ever talked to someone who was excited about GE technology. They weren't anti-science. A lot of them were casually anti-GMO, not by virtue of extensive study, but by default to an unexamined cultural assumption of first world progressivism. I believe that these people, like many of us who used to be in that camp, aren't fully convinced. Unfortunately, Dr. Shiva herself demonstrated less interest in dialogue or finding common ground. She walked straight past us on her way into the venue. Her eyes remained steadfast on the ground where she would be sure not to see any pro-GMO slogans. That way, she could avoid locking eyes with anyone who might ask about the hundreds of thousands of children dying from preventable micronutrient deficiencies in India. That certainly would have been inconvenient to hear on her way to rail against tools that could prevent such tragedy." allianceforscience.cornell.edu/blog/2016/03/bringing-grassroots-organizing-and-science-to-vandana-shiva/ I am also a member of MAMyths and I have my 'I heart GMOS' t-shirt to prove it.

*The Germination of Outrage: How Vandana Shiva Fabricates Conspiracy Theories* Posted by RISKMONGER [a degreed biotech expert] on FEBRUARY 27, 2020 "Vandana Shiva has made a lucrative business out of spreading conspiracy theories about agricultural technologies, sustainable farming, capitalism and industry. Her popularity has grown as she positions herself as a modern-day Gandhi, a social justice warrior, an ecological feminist and an agroecologist. The problem is that most everything that comes out of her much amplified mouth is complete nonsense: pure fabrications easily and often refuted. Which leads to the question: How does Vandana consistently get away with such ridiculous falsehoods and oral assaults on intelligent thought? How can she weave the absurd into a web of allegations willingly consumed by her followers? How does she relentlessly fabricate conspiracy theories and package them for consumption among the Western liberal elite? This article will look at one web of lies she is presently spinning as an analysis of the germination of outrage. Gone Vananas! As Vandana points her finger at Western economic models and institutions, she has profited quite well from lucrative speaking fees and first-class luxury living. She uses the free speech made available to her on university campuses to condemn farmers for freely choosing the seeds they want to grow. As Vandana attacks industry for their lack of openness, she will never engage in open debate with an adversary. As long as Vandana controls the microphone, she can say what she wants, repeating it to her followers and making the outrageous a marketable outrage. Some of the claims she has repeatedly made, which would have destroyed the credibility of any mere mortal, include: *Shiva: Indian farmers are killing themselves in much larger numbers after being exposed to pesticides and GMOs. Fact: Indian farmer suicide rates are lower than the national average. *Shiva: 75% of all diseases are caused by a “Poison Cartel” of three chemical companies. Fact: This is too absurd to consider. We are living longer and healthier lives. *Shiva: The Green Revolution in the 1960s destroyed India’s way of life. Fact: Until the Green Revolution, India was plagued with famines and chronic malnutrition. This is not a story about how wrong Vandana Shiva is, how she hypocritically profits from her lies or how dangerous she is to global food security. There is enough critical information out there. This is a story about how Vandana’s lies germinate into conspiracy theories packaged for outrage consumption. With Shiva, the truth doesn’t matter. She simply ignores any fact-checking, corrections and personal criticisms. Her adoring audience wants to hear what Shiva has to say, without a care for whether it is true or not. Like Donald Trump, Shiva has a Teflon charisma that appeals specifically to her base and allows her to take them down a road of rage, righteousness and rhetoric. Facts don’t matter when zealots fabricate outrage." Full coverage at: risk-monger.com/2020/02/27/the-germination-of-outrage/

@Darknees XL There’s really no need to prove it, as Gates openly, freely admits that his largest philanthropic ventures have also been his greatest financial investments. There are many examples, but in an interview with CNBC, he claims that vaccines have been astoundingly lucrative, netting a 20:1 return on investment. To be fair, he also claims that these returns are funneled back into philanthropy in a kind of self-perpetuating investment cycle, but there’s no denying that he’s greatly increased his own wealth and influence via tax-exempt foundations operating under the banner of philanthropy. But if you’re interested in an in-depth exposé, read “Gates to a Global Empire” from Navdanya International by India’s physicist-turned-activist Vandana Shiva. The letter, reproduced below in full, blasts Shiva for her “use of anti-scientific rhetoric to support unethical positions.” Neither university has scheduled a scientist to present the evidence-based case for crop biotechnology." geneticliteracyproject.org/2020/01/14/39-biotech-experts-open-letter-protests-anti-gmo-activist-vandana-shivas-anti-science-talks-at-stanford-and-uc-santa-cruz/

Gates and his wife, Melinda, have invested billions of dollars to research, develop and deliver vaccines around the world to help reduce child mortality. "Bill Gates’ former doctor says billionaire ‘refused to vaccinate his children,’" said the headline on a Feb. 7 post on yournewswire.com. Yournewswire.com’s story does not identify the purported doctor and says the information was divulged privately at a "medical symposium in Seattle," without naming the symposium or a date. The story claimed "the comments caused a stir among physicians at the symposium with claims he was breaking doctor-patient confidentiality, according to reports. However as he was speaking to other physicians, he was not breaking the industry code of conduct." Facebook users flagged the post as being potentially fabricated, as part of the social media network’s efforts to combat online hoaxes. (Check out all yournewswire.com’s posts debunked by PunditFact.) Melinda Gates in a Feb. 22 Instagram post wrote: "When my first child, Jenn, was born, over 800,000 children were dying each year of rotavirus - a preventable, curable disease. It broke my heart to imagine watching your child get sick and knowing that medicine could save her - if only you had access to it. That was a clarifying moment for me. He's helping Africa solve their poverty problem. By helping them have adequate agriculture so they don't starve, by helping them have health care, so they don't have so many children hoping enough will survive to adulthood to care for them, but have fewer, this is based off of research. (Countries in Africa that have better access to healthcare have fewer children, because they survive to grow up and care for them due to those vaccines people are so against). As for GMO, if their crops are constantly being wiped out due to a plant disease, and genetically modifying that plant means they have access to food when the alternative is starvation, why is this bad? Seems strange that people view it that way. Like he's actually addressing global problems. He's helping Africa alleviate poverty and have adequate access to agriculture (food supply) and vaccines that increase their survival. Why is this bad? Who else is solving this problem or helping them on the level of the Gates Foundation?

However, in the scientific community, there is no dispute or controversy regarding the safety of these crops. To date, more than 3,000 scientific studies [1,2,3,4,5,6,7,8] have assessed the safety of these crops in terms of human health and environmental impact. These studies together with several reviews performed on a case-by-case from regulatory agencies around the world have enabled a solid and clear scientific consensus: GM crops have no more risk than those that have been developed by conventional breeding techniques. In addition, there is also extensive literature that compiles the socioeconomic and environmental benefits that transgenic crops have reported in two decades of commercialization [9,10]. This document brings together the public statements of technical and scientific institutions that adhere to this consensus. I made an update based on this document from ChileBio that initially included 40 official documents representing about 190 institutions - the document from ChileBio was subsequently updated in 2017 with the institutions and statements attached here. The update shows that 284 technical and scientific institutions recognize the safety of GM crops and their potential benefits. Interestingly a large part of these institutions are located in Europe, the continent that has put more obstacles to the commercialization of these crops. On the other hand, the countries with most organizations in favor of GM crops are United Kingdom (33), United States (25), Italy (23), Spain (16) and Germany (11). In conclusion, 284 technical and scientific institutions recognize that GM crops are not riskier than those produced by conventional breeding, and/or the potential benefits of these crops." geneticliteracyproject.org/2017/06/19/gmo-20-year-safety-endorsement-280-science-institutions-more-3000-studies/

So you can grow more and more food in the future. With GMO monoculture, yields are huge. But you loose fertile soil. In fact 1 third of the worlds fertile soil is already lost. So consequently this is not sustainable and in long run will not be able to feed the world. And this is just regarding soil. There are other aspects such as biodiversity, seed harvesting or "accidents" like creating resistent pests. I don't say regenerative agriculture is natural. It is just much, much closer to nature. ---------------------------- AN INCONVENIENT TRUTH -------------------------------- Don’t buy organic food if you want to increase farm yields or seriously address climate change "As we approach the 2020s, many consumers have accepted the marketing/activist narrative that organic farming would be the best option for food safety and to mitigate the most damaging effects of climate change. The inconvenient truth is that organic farming is a terrible option from a climate change perspective. Its dependence on manures and compost involves huge, but rarely recognized, greenhouse gas emissions in the form of very potent methane and nitrous oxide. But perhaps its biggest climate change issue is that organic farms are mostly less productive per unit area than “conventionally” farmed land. With rising food demand driven mostly by rising standards of living in the developing world, there is a need to boost farm production, and that means the very undesirable conversion of forests or grasslands to agriculture in places like Brazil. That leads to major carbon dioxide release from what had been sequestered carbon in the soils, and also the loss of biodiversity and other environmental services provided by those natural lands. In 1990, the USDA (US Department of Agriculture) was charged by Congress with establishing a national organic standard to supersede the fragmented certification systems that had evolved to that time. It was a major struggle because the very science-oriented USDA was at odds with the early organic marketers who had focused entirely on the narrative that what is “natural” is always best. The marketers finally prevailed. When the national organic standards were issued in 2002, they were not based on science but rather on the naturalistic fallacy. So here is the big picture. The only crop category for which organic yields were higher than the 2016 US average was for forage crops for feeding animals. To have produced all of the US agricultural output from 2016 as organic would have required more than 100 million more acres to have been farmed-an area greater than that of the entire state of California, the third largest US state. That amount of new land suitable for farming clearly does not exist in the US, and so that shortfall would induce more conversion of forest and grassland into farming in places like Brazil, leading to major releases of previously sequestered carbon in those soils" This informative article goes on to use eleven charts and graphs from government data to prove in great detail just how inferior organic farming is. geneticliteracyproject.org/2019/10/07/viewpoint-dont-buy-organic-food-if-you-want-to-seriously-address-climate-change/

@@popeyegordon yea sure it is but like everything else if you pay the best accountants the lines can be blurred and the foundation money can be invested or used for personal interest if a few hoops are jumped through. I suggest you investigate how much of the Gates Foundation is actually used for charity and the rest of the breakdown. My guess is if you do you will find the name calling was premature. Or you can keep believing in fairy floss and unicorns.

The poor countries need lots of help bc the rich countries are expending too much CO2? 🤔🤨🧐 You mean maybe the rich should stop living so large.... says the richest man in the world! Lol 😂 he’s the definition of delusional and a major hypocrite!

Yes, what part of global warming affects all countries don't you understand? The poorest countries that do not make much carbon emissions still get hit with the catastrophic effects of rapid climate change. I prove, with 65 citations to back me up, that Gates saved millions of lives: "With more than 50% declines in child mortality over the past 25 years, Gates estimates that some 122 million kids' lives were saved during that time. Many of the greatest threats to children are preventable with access to simple, affordable interventions, according to the World Health Organisation." Feb 14, 2018 www.independent.co.uk/life-style/gadgets-and-tech/bill-gates-most-beautiful-chart-world-tweet-child-deaths-a8210331.html "Today, more than 400 million people no longer need treatment for NTDs, and 300 million of them no longer need treatment for LF. I must thank the Bill Gates channel for listening to my request in the summer of 2020. I urged them in strong terms to turn off comments under their videos. No new videos on this channel will have comments enabled, you turds. Spread your hate and lies elsewhere, this humanitarian deserves none of it. We will see more ignorant hateful trolls and their death threats on these older videos because we blocked them elsewhere. The Gates Foundation KZbin channel, separate from this Bill Gates channel, turned off comments a year ago. And no, there is no freedom of speech on privately owned websites.

ALL SEED PATENTS EXPIRE after 20 years! GMO corn, soybeans and alfalfa are generic and cheap now, a bargain for farmers. GMO corn seed just dropped $100 per bag in price! FARMERS DO NOT WANT TO REPLANT HYBRID SEEDS!!! Farmers quit saving Hybrid seed in mid 1930's and as each crop became a hybrid farmers quit saving seed from that crop. We have had patented seed ever since Congress passed the Plant Variety Protection Act in 1970 Protecting Plant Breeders with patent rights. It is illegal to save patented seed and does not mater if it is GMO or non GMO seed. Farmers are law abiding citizens but some think they are above the law. If you save seed do not buy patented seed to do so. A first grade child can understand that. There are many companies even foreign companies producing and selling GMO technology seed. That favorite whipping boy Monsanto was bought out and when it did exist it only controlled 20% of the GM seed market globally. Expired patent seed is a gift to humanity.
@popeyegordon3 жыл бұрын
More than half of all GMO seeds being used today (by variety, not tonnage) are not for or from US agribusiness. They are for specific applications in many different parts of the world where climate change is causing additional challenges. Most of them are not patented. Most of them are given away free to struggling farmers by NGOs and govt seed programs
@bctopper11 жыл бұрын
I agree with Mr. Gates, but we also have to consider what would happen if GMO seeds cross-pollinate and if they are introduced into the wild population. Could that effect biodiversity? Also would the seeds contain pesticides within? It is scary right now in the U.S. because the public has become aware that big companies are valuing their profits over the public's health.

It would be interesting if a grass (commonly eaten by cows)... Could be modified to A) fix nitrogen in the soil AND B) Consume methane farted from cows... Such a grass would fertilize the pasture of large ranches, reducing the need for extra feed... It would absorb large amounts of methane from cows (a potent greenhouse gas)... A pasture could support more cattle, while reducing the methane from the cattle here...
