The introducer went on FOREVER. Joan Didion is a living legend but as such seems like the toughest interview ever. I don't know how anyone would do it.

15 minutes in and Joan Didion has barely said a word because these two self-important New Yorkers simply cannot stop talking. Awkward. This is a woman of words...get her on stage, ask her a question, and let's go already. Neither of you are more interesting than she is.

I agree. I clicked on this video to listen to Joan's insightful commentary. Interviewer talks tooooo much.

Interviewer... more interested in your own opinions and “I.. I.. I” than Joan. Painful.

Jesus. I love Joan DIdion. But I do not envy anyone who has to ask her a question! I don't understand some of these comments. I think Sloane went on (they both did) a bit at the beginningbut also Didion is not a generous subject here. GENIUS tho.

I mean the too long questions, the self reference, and especially the UHM'S... Don't help. You can see that, naturally.

It is obvious to me that the interviewer is generations younger.....Joan just blinked at her when she said "didn't care about your emotional health" regarding Joan's agent. It was a different time. Edit...kudos for note cards. Nothing wrong with something in your hand keeping your focussed so one can listen better.

the interviewer is given gold about 18 mins in: the model walking across the room in Vegas "gave me Play It As It Lays". And the interviewer responds by saying, "Um, well - I'm going to ask you about..." I know this is a high-stress interview but... it seems to me that this woman isn't up to the task. I think what we as an audience would like it an actual conversation...

Joan Didion circumvented that silly 7 word bio with her usual panache'& then showed extreme patience with quite a mediocre interview ....

This interviewer was not good. She may not have meant to, but she draws attention to herself with her lack of skill. Not a professional.

Woefully inadequate interviewer. Yikes. The whole concept of the memoir is problematic. For the writer and the reader it becomes too much about the ego. If the story is truly engaging- and few memoirs are- fictionalize it and remove the ego. Things quickly devolve into searches for salacious gossip. Which if successful, the publisher wants more of. Fictionalize it.

Just discovered Joan Didion for the first time in my 40+ years. The most poignant writing I have ever experienced -- hits me in a place like nothing else. I get the impression that Mrs. Didion is agnostic maybe? For her sake I hope she finds God -- for surely her gift came directly from God. Her writing is how I imagine God would write if he wrote directly. God bless you and keep you in peace in this life and the next where may you be reunited with your beloved husband and daughter. I am sure they are together waiting for you

generation gap .. astounding. Don't know if it is good or bad that the interviewer can't seem to stop clutching at the caricatured viewpoints of her 'woke' generation
