What a decent man! And he shows us how his genius as an actor stems from how he has decided to order his moral and spiritual life. I love it when he makes the concept of being "healthy" a foundation of his talent. He means not only his physical being, but his healthy respect for his colleagues and the scripts with which he chooses to be identified. This is a great lnterview about art and about spiritual health.

He seems every bit as excellent a person as the character he plays. And he likes art too - a bonus! The series is my favourite show, and I'm so glad he's not going to stop just yet. The scenery, the MUSIC - the music is so beautifully idiosyncratic - the stories, the characters, the humour ...... I have not read the books yet, but I will.

I started by reading a few of the books loaned to me by a colleague , and was delighted when the series was finally aired in the UK. Luca Zingaretti's portrayal didn't disappoint, nor did any of the actor's performances. Montalbano is a rare delight in TV these days.

He truly understands the character he plays and deeply appreciates the skill of Camilleri's writing and the attention to detail of the direction and production of the filming. Rarely do books transpose so well to film. All round quality in writing, casting, production and acting. Just great. Keep making Montalbano forever!!

Great insights from a great actor - humble - so appreciative of his peers and those he works with. He really incarnates Montalbano and some of his reflections on the values that underpin Salvo are special - ie loving someone does not mean changing them but respecting them and being content with ones lot in life and not seeking promotion. My wife and I discovered Montalbano a couple of months ago and are now working our way through the series. It's undoubtedly the humanity of the man that makes it special. Can anyone explain the deserted streets - and are Zinaretti's other DVDs subtitled?

Peter Cordwell the empty streets are a stylistic choice from the director, a way to enhance the beauty of the baroque buildings in those beautiful Sicilian towns. It is something we rarely see in our times and so it also creates an estrangement effect, as if the action was taking place in a bygone time.

The points he makes about Camilleri and self-valuing beyond the estimation of the external world - with direct reference to the contemporary obsession with self- validation though internet and social media interaction is spot on. He has evidently read Jean Paul Sartre. What a perceptive, intelligent and articulate actor this man is. Helps me appreciate both the work of the original writer, and the sophistication of the Montelabano TV series
