He was just another victimized boxer bled dry by promoters the nation of islam ex wives ect. He was not a smart man just a talker who parrots Nation of Islam dogma. At this time in his life a racist not believing in race mixing, he also believed white men were devils created by an evil scientist called Yakub. He also failed his IQ test 3 times for the draft and they tried to change the rules and draft him anyway. This was the reason he won the supreme court case. It had nothing to do with religion. He was likeable and courageous but was no hero in the ring because of his 4 fixed fights at least 4 per the FBI. He was 376 out of 391 in his graduating class. If you watch the guy and he talks long enough you can see hes not bright just entertaining at times.

Bladen Rogers it’s unfortunate that you do not understand what racism is. The confusing nature of racism is by design. One thing for sure, if any white person calls a black person a racist, you are either confused or insidiously deflecting and playing naïve. Racism is systemic and can only be practiced by those in power. Nobody black has the power to practice racism anywhere on the planet earth. So your comment and your position is totally wrong. Ali was a very outspoken and braggadocios super athlete who rubbed white America the wrong way. He did what he was supposed to do and that’s speak up for his people. So fuck you asshole

Thank you Lord [and the very decent part of the media] that provided Ali a voice, so the public got a very clear picture of what a walking miracle this man was. Bit manic near the end, but so easy to understand how this religion gave him hope for change. This vision suited the young mans intelligence. l will say it again - all this in a man who is only 25yrs old - unbelievable.
@quantumleap40236 жыл бұрын
It's a very American view point to think 25 is somehow still young. 25 year's should be plenty of time for any boy to become a fully developed man. Its half way to 50. The problem is, most kids were never raised right in the first place. Then, in turn, they waste their teenage years "having fun". It's not until after highschool graduation they begin to consider their future. By the time they're 25 they're not even out of college yet and don't know what they're doing with their life on a deeper level. They get a job and work the rest of their life for a sweet house in the suburbs and some cash to retire on... Ali was different. I'm sure by 12 to 14 he was a very independent and creative young man already. He probably spent lots of time questioning everything under the sun, and because of this he found a greater purpose in life. He used the power he had to create the life he wanted. He grew up at the rate we all should of, he gained the wisdom we all should've and he lived life to the fullness we all should've. And his life will forever be an example to old and young alike to never stop pursuing your dreams, and make life what you want it to be. It's not enough to just admire him. Honor him by learning from him. Long live Ali, may his name live on for many generations to come.

It's clear here that Bud Collins loves and admires Ali. Recognition should be given to the small group of very influential white reporters, especially Howard Cosell, who stood by Ali and very vocally supported him at considerable risk to their own careers. We sometimes forget that during his early and mid career Ali was vilified, hounded and clearly hated by a large segment of the American media, which of course was lily white at the time. These reporters in many cases literally risked their paychecks to give Ali a fair chance to explain his beliefs.

just as Ali's views on Islam and race evolved and over time (due to knowledge and wisdom) so too did Bud Collins, the interviewer. Mr Bud Collins became one of the best Tennis commentator and was a huge supporter of Arthur Ashe, the Williams sisters and other Black players. .Bud just recently returned to his Maker.

Muhammad Ali was a prophet in his own right that had an impact on all sports not only in boxing. He' was a very significant man in my adolescent life growing up. Now that I'm a grown adult I see that I was not alone in my belief in this GREAT man in the 20th century!
@whynot48286 жыл бұрын
Such a great man, so wise.Boxing must have been his bread and butter, he was willing to give it up for his people. The future must have looked so uncertain when he gave up boxing. He cared more for his people more than his personal ambition, this makes him a champion of life.

Mark Gable you should read history those arabs who enslaved people as you said did not change the names of anyone and that was pre-islamic era after the 7 century islam abolished slavery even though arabs enslaved all colors,arabs,persians,even romans.American slavery still continues and its only against black people so go read something! anything!
@layladaudgmailcom9 жыл бұрын
the arabs intermarried with the Africans you moron unlike the Americans 2015 and you are still shooting them.Once a person becomes a person embraces Islam then the laws change because one can not enslave another muslim .. God im speaking with people who just know how to flip burgers

Mark Gable Convert or be killed? thats the most bullshit i have heard all week.
@Theycallmekenney9 жыл бұрын
Mark Gable the american civil war had nothing to do with slavery, the north sold slaves to the south. Lincoln used the Emancipation proclamation as a chess move he said himself blacks were not equal to whites and if he could save the nation without abolishing slavery he would. Arab enslavement had nothing to do with Islam it had everything to do with Arabs seeking control and wealth through enslavement. Slavery is in the fabric of society around the world and has never stopped.
@Theycallmekenney9 жыл бұрын
Mark Gable JFK was not killed for "civil rights" who told you that? Where are you getting your information???? I suggest you do a little more reading on colonial and antebellum slavery buddy.. nobody said which slavery was better, what I'm saying is religion had nothing to do with it.

It can be so easy sometimes to do the right thing. Then there are the Ted Williams, Dom Dimaggios, Jerry Colemans & Pat Tillmans of the world who take the hard way - putting their lives on the line - without a thought of evasion, answering the call to the Duty that binds a nation together in a shared ethic of commitment & unity. It might have been so much different for Cassius Clay had he but acted from the self-sacrificing impulse of native Christianity rather than the contrived conceit of Islam.
