My favorite Stones songs besides this one: “Tumbling Dice” “Can’t You Hear Me Knocking”. Also, “Waiting on a Friend” has a vibe like this song. Also, a beast of burden is an animal that carries heavy stuff on its back - like a mule, donkey, or (I suppose) a camel.

From the album "Beast of Burden" is on: "Respectable" "Shattered" and their brief trip into disco, "Miss You." Beware of anyone suggesting that you react to the innocent-sounding Stones song, "Star Star"--it's a great song, but raunchy lyrics that leave nothing to the imagination.

Great selection! Really picked one of the best Stones here. Charlie Watts was such a unique drummer. This version really separates the Ronnie and Keith guitars. Look for Bette Midler's cover of this tune with Mick. Hopefully you could react to the theatrical version with no problems . Thank you. Thank you. Oh! Aerosmith wasn’t competition. They were an attempt at being a copy cat band. Tyler stole Jaggers look. Perry copied Richards look down to the leather and white poets shirt and the eyeliner and hairstyle. Even put the blond streak in his hair that Keith did in 72-72. Then on top of that The two from Aerosmith called themselves the Toxic Twins which is a rip off of Jagger and Richards being The Glimmer Twins. Their only competition ever were the Beatles. Richards gives them the nod and said they started it all and the Stones wouldn’t have been around if not for the Beatles

I'm a Stones fan through and through. One of my favorite memories involving a Stones song was from The Big Chill. My mom loves cleaning house while the movie rolls because the soundtrack is on point. She was working in a corner of her room, I was sitting on her bed watching the movie when JoBeth Williams is on the church organ, playing her friend's favorite song. I look at my mom and say, "This is the Rolling Stones, isn't it? You Can't Always Get What You Want?" I recognized the song on the organ before they transitioned to the Stones. Mom was shocked because I was about 9 at the time. Great song and great band.

The late Charlie Watts, had his own unique style on the drums, he would not hit the hi hat and the snare drum at the same time.

Because the hi-hat and snare are not hit at the same time, the snare sounds clearer in the recording.

@@GivnoFyux actually watch a drum cover, you will notice that they hit the hi hat with the bass drum, by itself, with the snare drum, by itself, with the bass drum, by itself, with the snare drum, by itself, as an 8 count, or it is hi hat and bass drum at the same time, hi hat and snare at the same time, hi hat and bass drum at the same time, then hi hat and snare drum at the same time, as a 4 count. drum sheet music always shows the hit hat and snare drum being hit at the same time.

Bette Midler does a great version of this song. The Stones are amazing live. They do an amazing version of this song on stage. Mick is a great communicator and Keith's guitar keeps chugging away l

Jordan and Amber great job, you have grown so much in reacting to 60's, 70's and 80's music. You have brought back some really good memories to this 71 year old man. I would like to recommend an awesome Stones song ( loaded with guitars and horns ) CAN'T YOU HEAR ME KNOCKING. This song is fire. Enjoy

Stone's brilliance exampled in this one song. The secret I think of The Stones music is that it always sounds loose and relaxed when it is really tight. The guitar work on this is phenomenal - layered , subtle, tasteful and perfect.

Released in 1978, Beast of Burden is one of so many bluesy songs. The Stones came out during the British Invasion of music in the sixties and followed the blues track of music whereas the Beatles followed the pop side. So amazing!

As a "baby boomer" (72 y.o.), I recall the RS's and the Beatle's being two of the top1 British Invasion bands who got their start back in the early '60s, first in Europe and later moving across the "Pond" to the States. When they got here, one of their first gigs was on the Ed Sullivan show in NYC, a weekly hour-long variety show that was very popular for many years. Their acts filled concert halls and sports stadiums. At first their songs came out on 45 rpm records, which were monaural and held only two songs, one per side. Then later in the '60s they moved to the 33 1/3 rpm stereo albums. Their songs were almost always on the top 40 stations like WABC in NYC hosted by the disc jockeys Cousin Brucie and Harry Harrison and on the west coast, Wolfman Jack. Those and other bands experimented with many different sounds and themes and their music was a major influence on my generation. Of course, many parents, like my own, were horrified by this 'new' and different sound.

I was lucky enough for these guys to be my very first concert ever! 1989. Alpine Valley, WI. Steel Wheels tour. On a side note, I went with my older brother, his wife, and a female friend of theirs. I didn’t know till later that they were trying to hook us up, I was oblivious to everything but what was happening onstage 😂

Hey guys its got to be time for some more SRV! We recommend Life Without You, Live at the Capital Theater 1985. Slower song with some of his best singing, a wonderful message needed now more than ever. He plays the guitar every which way possible with a bit of dentistry and I’m not even telling you about the good parts It’s our favorite performance and I’m almost 99% sure it will be yours also.

"Miss you" I believe came out on the same album as Beast of Burden. "Ruby Tuesday" an older song is great too! Thank you Amber and J! 💜😻

Love the stones! My favs from them are waiting on a friend, miss you, emotional rescue, Harlem shuffle, fool to cry...so many others. Their album covers are epic! Don't give all the credit to Mick here. They are a band and everyone does their part. Keith runs the show from the guitar section. Ronnie Wood is a master on guitar as well and wrote a lot of the bass parts for them and also others (for ex he wrote and played the bass parts for Rod Stewart on his first solo album including Maggie May). Bill Wyman he left a long time ago but set the tone for excellence in bass playing. And Charlie Watts laid the groove on them drums, he died just last year? Beast of burden is a pack animal...they carry things and pull things. Camels. Donkeys. Yaks. The lyric...I'll never be your beast of burden. I think it means basically he knows she's extra and he can't handle all her baggage, and wont ever be or do enough to make her happy. But she's pretty so he wants her anyway. Don't miss the stones being influenced by American country music and blues. They were huge students of George Jones, Johnny Cash, Howling Wolf, Muddy Waters, Chuck Berry, Hank Williams. They learned from the best. Bette Midler did a version of this with Mick Jagger! It was pretty good.

From Keith Richards: “Those who say it’s about one woman in particular, they’ve got it all wrong. We were trying to write for a slightly broader audience than just Anita Pallenberg or Marianne Faithfull. Although that’s not to say they didn’t have some influence in there somewhere. I mean, what’s close by is close by! I’ve always felt it’s one of my best soul songs. It was another strict collaboration between Mick and me. I think I had the first verse-‘I’ll never be your beast of burden’-along with the hook, and we were still working very much in our traditional way: Here’s the idea, here’s the song, now run away and fill it in! Some of the theories surrounding it are very intriguing, but they’re about as divorced from reality as can be. I find it quite amusing that there are people in the world who spend a lot of their time trying to decode something that is, at the end of the day, completely undecodable. I mean, even I’ve forgotten the code!”
