Aerosmith wasn’t competition. They were an attempt at being a copy cat band. Tyler stole Jaggers look. Perry copied Richards look down to the leather and white poets shirt and the eyeliner and hairstyle. Even put the blond streak in his hair that Keith did in 72-72. Then on top of that The two from Aerosmith called themselves the Toxic Twins which is a rip off of Jagger and Richards being The Glimmer Twins. Their only competition ever were the Beatles. Richards gives them the nod and said they started it all and the Stones wouldn’t have been around if not for the Beatles

As a "baby boomer" (72 y.o.), I recall the RS's and the Beatle's being two of the top1 British Invasion bands who got their start back in the early '60s, first in Europe and later moving across the "Pond" to the States. When they got here, one of their first gigs was on the Ed Sullivan show in NYC, a weekly hour-long variety show that was very popular for many years. Their acts filled concert halls and sports stadiums. At first their songs came out on 45 rpm records, which were monaural and held only two songs, one per side. Then later in the '60s they moved to the 33 1/3 rpm stereo albums. Their songs were almost always on the top 40 stations like WABC in NYC hosted by the disc jockeys Cousin Brucie and Harry Harrison and on the west coast, Wolfman Jack. Those and other bands experimented with many different sounds and themes and their music was a major influence on my generation. Of course, many parents, like my own, were horrified by this 'new' and different sound.

Watching them live is a great idea, that way you can see Mick, "move like Jagger" its quiet a site to behold, when I was about 20 and in college we were in awe of them , pushing 40 and still going strong and now its 40 years later and they are still going!!!!

Hey guys its got to be time for some more SRV! We recommend Life Without You, Live at the Capital Theater 1985. Slower song with some of his best singing, a wonderful message needed now more than ever. He plays the guitar every which way possible with a bit of dentistry and I’m not even telling you about the good parts It’s our favorite performance and I’m almost 99% sure it will be yours also.

SRV “Life Without You”, live in Nashville. The capital Theater show is a great performance, but I think his set live in Nashville closing with “Life Without you” is even better. Just my opinion, but it moves me every time I watch it

Yes finally reacting to my favorite song buy them besides "I can't get no satisfaction"! My sister had just left for college when this song came out and I was alone at home! "Angie" is another one! "Miss you" I believe came out on the same album as Beast of Burden. "Ruby Tuesday" an older song is great too! Thank you Amber and J! 💜😻

I just scanned lots of comments and was wondering if Symphony and most of your list were missing.

The Stones live at the TAMI show was an amazing early performance. Also there's a concert video from 1972 called Ladies And Gentlemen, The Rolling Stones, which is prime Stones. Frankly, you can't go wrong with those guys.

Love the stones! My favs from them are waiting on a friend, miss you, emotional rescue, Harlem shuffle, fool to cry...so many others. Their album covers are epic! Don't give all the credit to Mick here. They are a band and everyone does their part. Keith runs the show from the guitar section. Ronnie Wood is a master on guitar as well and wrote a lot of the bass parts for them and also others (for ex he wrote and played the bass parts for Rod Stewart on his first solo album including Maggie May). Bill Wyman he left a long time ago but set the tone for excellence in bass playing. And Charlie Watts laid the groove on them drums, he died just last year? Beast of burden is a pack animal...they carry things and pull things. Camels. Donkeys. Yaks. The lyric...I'll never be your beast of burden. I think it means basically he knows she's extra and he can't handle all her baggage, and wont ever be or do enough to make her happy. But she's pretty so he wants her anyway. Don't miss the stones being influenced by American country music and blues. They were huge students of George Jones, Johnny Cash, Howling Wolf, Muddy Waters, Chuck Berry, Hank Williams. They learned from the best. Bette Midler did a version of this with Mick Jagger! It was pretty good.

Yes! Watching now and it's KILLING ME that they're doing that!

That = making it sound like it's basically Mick and the others are just back-up band.

From Keith Richards: “Those who say it’s about one woman in particular, they’ve got it all wrong. We were trying to write for a slightly broader audience than just Anita Pallenberg or Marianne Faithfull. Although that’s not to say they didn’t have some influence in there somewhere. I mean, what’s close by is close by! I’ve always felt it’s one of my best soul songs. It was another strict collaboration between Mick and me. I think I had the first verse-‘I’ll never be your beast of burden’-along with the hook, and we were still working very much in our traditional way: Here’s the idea, here’s the song, now run away and fill it in! Some of the theories surrounding it are very intriguing, but they’re about as divorced from reality as can be. I find it quite amusing that there are people in the world who spend a lot of their time trying to decode something that is, at the end of the day, completely undecodable. I mean, even I’ve forgotten the code!”
