In 1975, Pablo Agrio was just 17 years old, when he was forced to flee his home in Panama to the United States to escape serving in Manuel Noriega’s Regime of Terror. Pablo’s dream for safety, freedom and a better life in America, however, turned into a nightmare of twists and turns, from his early days as a rambler and hustler to a promising career as a Marine and a police officer; then, tragically, a murderer, prisoner, lawyer and finally a free man, dedicated to saving others from his own fate

Man this story is crazy. Just sad all around. But looked him up quick and facts of the case came up from an LA Times article from 4/8/89 that he kicked in the bedroom door, threw papers all over, & shot his wife in the center of the back of the head while he alone had control over the revolver at that point. Apparently he told the babysitter earlier his wife was going to regret going to the bar. But I wonder the truth to that given he said the babysitter was family of his wife. Two trials first was hung second said being a police officer worked against him. He testified about not knowing the safety and the jury didn’t believe since he’s a cop. Held him to a higher standard as a cop. Said he had a hot temper. Three sides to any story. His, hers we’ll never hear, & the truth.

Hearing his story and looking at his body language, listening to the tone, I knew without a doubt it wasn’t going to be attempted murder or anything else but murder. So when he said she was killed, dead, not even remotely shocked. Her side of the story would’ve been very, very different we’re she given the opportunity to tell it.

I mean he does say so himself. "We'll never hear her side of the story". A lot of cops and army people don't keep guns in the house and I think there's a good reason for that. People blame him for killing the woman, but he seems to blame himself for getting invovled with her in the first place. He's trying to reach out to viewers and let them know to be careful what situations they put themselves in, especially when they're dragging along unresolved issues and/or are in a position of power. Americans need to learn some amount of mercy too... 30 years in a married crime of passion is above the legal norm. Some people in the comments really do live in an inane cartoon universe.

The lack of empathy in this man's voice is crazy. Not at one point in so many situations did he ever take any responsibility for anything in his life. He spoke about PTSD but never spoke about how it affected him. When he shot his wife his choice of language was interesting. You would think he was speaking about an everyday event. Wtf He didn't say he was in tears or frantic his answer was just shoot me wtf His plays the victim in every situation.

All throughout the first part I was thinking, "whoa, what a good story teller he is". Now, upon reaching its conclusion I don't believe him, it was a lil too good. It feels like a story that he's practiced many times and might even believe at this point. 30 yrs is a long time. He did the same thing he said the prosecutor did though. Building a negative perspective of the deceased the whole time while he was a dutiful father/ husband until it played out how it did sadly. He took a small amount of responsibility at the beginning in how he should have never dated her in the first place but very little afterwards. I find it hard to believe that the police went after him so doggedly after ONE domestic incident in which there was a witness on his behalf present. I totally understand why he'd do this, he's got a son out there somewhere who COULD see this. I can't believe I wrote all this. Had some free time today. I wish him the best either way. Very entertaining interview.

This was a great interview, but Pablo, who seems very likeable at times, definitely shows how selfish and egotistical he really is. My guess is that flaw was an issue in his relationship. The story started with her pursuing him, and then throwing herself at him while she was drunk. Then, he's the victim when she got pregnant, but a hero for trying to make it work out between them. He's a hero for reluctantly supporting her decision to start a new career. Mysteriously, as a complete drunk, she finishes a whole police academy and background check with no issues. It can happen, but not likely, I'll just say that. He mentioned the cheating he was doing on the side, but completely glossed over that part. Typical of domestic violence situations, she was gaining power, a green card, a career in law enforcement, and she was making new friends to hang out with. He was losing control over the situation, and domestic violence is about control. Pablo was very forthright and articulate until he described the situation where the shooting happened. Then, the details are missing, and he's thinking too hard about how to tell the story. Perhaps, if he's nervous about his son watching, he changed some details of the story. But, if that's the case, he's not transparent, he's not sorry, and he shouldn't have written a book about it. He was a victim when he said no co-workers, family or friends had his back except his mom. That's not true, because he later stated they all warned him not to marry her, but he didn't take their advice. He turned into his "true" self when he warned his wife that if she pursued that internal affairs complaint that he would be broke and unable to help her pay the bills. Then, he thought about what he said and slipped in that "you know what you said wasn't true," so he doesn't seem like an abuser or bully. Pablo made bad choices despite the warnings, and he continued to make bad decisions because he's selfish and protecting his ego. Great interview Big Herc. Keep 'em coming!

Domestic violence is not always the man's fault as society tries to make it seem. Women will provoke the hell out of a man until he snaps. There is a show called "Snap" when women lose their cool. There would never be a show called snap for men.
@alm4655

Exactly. I've had my other half try shit like this with me. Didn't hit her but put her in her place. Some people (not only women) need that. I've seen it done to friends of mine as well - the wife will deliberately belittle, demean and complain about the guy in my company. Lord knows what she's like when no one else is around. I can well imagine him snapping and punching her lights out.

I've been with a crazy woman who used it against me. She loved to argue and whenever she was getting too mad, she would threaten to call her family to have them come beat me up or call the police to say I hit her. I would usually take her phone from her and give it back to her after she calmed down but one day I decided to let her keep it to see if she really would so I would know where I stand. 30min later, the cops turned up and they go upstairs to speak to her. They tell me they will take me if she wants to press charges. I never hit her. They were willing to arrest me without any evidence. Just her bs word against mine. I lost faith in the police and I lost faith in her too. At that moment I knew she was done for me. She didn't press charges, she wanted to scare me but I felt so humiliated and backstabbed, I can't forgive her. The system is heavily biased against men. Women don't want equality. They want the authority of men, the privileges of women and the accountability of children. We get longer sentences than them for the same crime and our word isn't as good as theirs.

I don’t really believe his story or the event s exactly as it was said, I believe forensics. I have found that murderers are not the most honorable of people. I wouldn’t count on a murderer to be truthful, that just me tho. I think what is important is following your dreams and goals but trying not to mix in people who are incompatible with your dream, but if it does happen…don’t let it get to the point of domestic violence, TAKE THE L gentlemen….pay child support.

"the judge said I want you to testify and tell the jury why you did what you did." 100% horseshit. That would be judicial misconduct in the most extreme. There isn't an appeals court anywhere in the country that wouldn't overturn the verdict if that actually happened. This guy is a liar.

What a life story! An innocent man coming to America for a better way of living. He's run into every obstacle you can imagine: the racism, getting into a relationship that was bad from the start, trying to go to college with no readily funds. I watched the first part and I feel his pain, you hear his pain. Sad!

I think a big element of this that several people are glossing over in the comments is this man isn't justifying his actions. If you listen to the story he blatantly admits he was wrong in how he handled the relationship, how he handled the situation, and his way of thinking concerning the situation and how he grew. He admitted he was guilty of doing the wrong thing. He admitted nothing but regrets and how he wishes things played out differently. Not everyone who commits a murder goes about the rest of their existence justifying it and if you listen to the story he's telling, the WHOLE story (as in the video - because we don't actually know the whole whole story), this man isn't justifying what he did, even on his side of said story. PTSD and anger are mfers. I personally can't justify his actions based on those things, either. I can empathize, however. When caught up in the moment, when caught up in that anger, a man (or woman) can do things that are irrational, things that are horrible. They call it a crime of passion for a reason and hindsight is 20/20. Assuming he did things like kick in the door or go off the deep end - it was in a moment of anger and distress. Nobody in that state of mind, especially someone dealing with PTSD, is guaranteed to do the correct thing, to think rationally. Yes, what he did was horrible - no matter what the circumstances, no matter the details. However, it seems he's really taken the time to reflect and admit to himself the realities that come with doing something terrible like that. I think many people who would find themselves in a similar situation wouldn't allow it to humble them in a similar sense. But hey that's my 2 cents. I'm just some dude on the internet. All I'm gonna say beyond this is I'm at least grateful that mental health awareness is slowly improving in this country and I feel like more attention should be paid to veterans and police officers dealing with PTSD. This doesn't come from a pro-military or pro-cop perspective - this comes from someone dealing with PTSD. I'm also glad there is more awareness concerning domestic violence (another catalyst of PTSD for many many people). It fucks with your head and many who are struggling with it aren't even aware of what it is or honest with themselves about it. I feel like if we, as a society, pay more attention to this kinda thing - we can prevent more scenarios like this.

“That gun goes off” you pulled the trigger bar none. This guy will not accept accountability on anything. It’s a revolver dude squeeze it and it goes off. It’s so hard to be understanding of a bad situation when he’s lying nonstop and playing the victim.
