I like the idea of letting the paint naturally wear off the brass pen, there's something so satisfying about having something so long that you left your indelible mark on it. Imagine that worn pen displayed next to your art in a history museum, it would have at least as much value as one of your artworks.

Oh wow.... that pen does look fantastic. Being copper would make it feel real cold at first, but warm up nicely after a while. The transportation solution is utterly bonkers, and I have no idea why anyone would use that. $200 is way outside my budget, but I do like it.
@peter_draws3 жыл бұрын
Yeah it does warm up, maybe that’s why I like holding it. Also I agree it’s very pricey, although I think it can be found slightly cheaper (closer to $160 maybe) on other websites.
@stupidnamestaken13 жыл бұрын
The only reason I can think of is to keep it stable and cool so the ink doesn't warm up and thin out from being in a pocket close to skin. I know that's one common factor on people's pens leaking onto their clothes.
@ad64493 жыл бұрын
Not everyone has pockets all the time so a loop is quite useful, in my experience. Copper is so lovely in the hand. Thank you for another great video, Peter. The brass one sounds like fun.

I await the song but I gotta comment on the portability question. I believe that the company that made the pen, considering that they have a desk bound version, that they remember times in the past when pens would explode and placing a pen inside your bag or “pocket” would often lead to a surprise when you opened your bag or put your hand in your pocket INK EVERYWHERE! So let your pen travel along side with you and your bag! Hung on a loop ready for you and your convenience! I will remind you that time is money and some people believe that their time is more important than any dollar amount. I guess everything is relative, even our journey through space and time. I do enjoy watching/listening to your videos, thank you Peter. Please take care, be safe and have a grand day!
@durranborn94653 жыл бұрын
"The more you go out, the less movement starts to mean" - You're touching on relativity, and how space, time, and motion are all in reference to something else. Being a sentient apex predator is a weird thing.

Early fountain pens came in "vest" models (no clip or ring on the cap) and the ring top "ladies pens." Ring top was to wear on a necklace, or chatelaine. Maybe a similar concept? I like the idea of the pocket pen. However, this looks bigger than those. Because of liking pocket pens, I have several Esterbrook CH purse pens, ring top ones, and, though it has a clip, a Conklin Crescent Filler 2P (vest pocket model from 1917.) Means that I have ones I can carry without a shirt pocket, and none have been close to the price of the Y Studio. And with the Schmidt nib, I can get metal pens that are similarly minimalist for around $50, and have the same basic writing experience. That said, I do like the idea of having a copper fountain pen. A copper pen almost makes it worth it for me. 😁 I enjoy your take on the whole fountain pen experience. And your drawing. Thanks!

You've got the point about portability, but I think some pens are not meant to leave the desk. I have a calligraphy set, a pen with interchangeable nibs. I won't take it anywhere from my desk, because the thing I do with them happens only at that place, and the same goes for some of my other pens, although some obviously are meant to be taken away. :) Also big heavy bases for the pens are kind of traditional, they have their own... mood and feeling.
@peter_draws3 жыл бұрын
Ok, with those calligraphy pens, I see why they aren’t “portable” for you. I also see how drilling a hole through them and giving you a string wouldn’t suddenly change that, right? A way to tie them to your bag isn’t what’s stopping you from taking them somewhere.

Interesting to hear your thoughts about commercial supersonic flight. I'm an aviation geek, and I was pretty impressed by your summary. A few minor errors but, in the main, pretty accurate on the facts. Concorde was an impressive achievement, with an excellent safety record, but, when all the pre-order interest from the likes of Pan-Am etc dwindled away, it was never going to recoup the development costs.

My house near London was under the take off path of Concord and it used to fly over my place at 12 minutes past six every night. I never failed to watch it as it looked magnificent (so incredibly graceful). It didn't reached supersonic speed until it was over the Atlantic so I never heard the sonic boom (it was still quite loud though). The day it crashed in Paris was heart breaking for many reasons. PS It is just Concord, not The Concord. Great drawing and song by the way!
@peter_draws3 жыл бұрын
That’s so cool, it would have been cool to see them, and yeah it’s sad that they’re gone. But PPS I think it’s actually “Concorde” and yes you’d just say Concorde when referring to the airline as a whole but if you’re referring to specific jet or that specific design, I think it’s right to still use articles like “a” and “the”. For example if you saw one you wouldn’t say “Wow look at Concorde.” you would say “wow look at the Concorde”

I don’t think they’re trying to solve a problem with the pen designs and/or the ideas they give you. I think it’s a way for them to make the pens more interactive. Pens are meant to write and/or draw. They’re giving you more things to do with the product. I think it’s kinda cool. It’s just another thing to do. Especially if it’s technically free. If you’re paying the same for that pen, that you would for any other, then the extra stuff is just free fun. It gets people to do more.

Short explanation why we don't get sonic booms while walking anywhere on the Earth: Sound is a wave of matter - a distortion in something that moves through whatever it's in. Ususally it means the air for us. It doesn't matter how fast we move from the middle of the galaxy or some other faraway place, for sonic booms we have to move faster than the sound in relation to the air or whatever we're in. And since that air in also on our planet, it moves together with us (well, almost - the Earth's rotation may make the wind stronger in some places). By the way, I really enjoyed this song.

I'm sure that someone will use the "portable" option and think it's the greatest thing since pockets. 🤭 In fact, the first person I thought of was a man whom I worked with who wore around his neck an abundance of pens so that when someone needed one he would have it readily available...anywhere and at anytime. Odd? Yeah, probably. It was good thing for him and a conversation starter. If you didn't know his name, you knew who he was when he was referred to as the "guy with a necklace of pens." The blessing with this pen is you can take it or leave it. Wouldn't it stink if you loved the pen but had no choice but to have it corded? 😉 Luv your work! 👍🏻

The wooden case and strap is there to reduce the rate of corrosion. Copper oxidizes and corrodes over time. The less exposed it is, the longer it will last. There is a reason pens aren't made out of copper...
@cloudGremlin2 жыл бұрын
The hanging pen idea is kinda a gimmick I do confess, However: as a female who predominantly wears skirts and pants with flimsy or no pockets. I would love a way to keep my lil Lamy pen more accessible than the tin box I keep in the bottom of my carry bag, which requires much fiddling to get open and extract the pen/pencil case from. I actually have a one-of-a-kind homemade pocket knife made with the same purpose, and when I’m doing heavy activity (running, working, etc) I love the ability to clip it or tie it to a belt loop since I’m always worried it will slip out and be lost forever!
