Most likely EMP would not work. Look up "silicon on sapphire electromagnetic spectrum". Even now we use this type technology to avoid natural or man made EMP (Radiation) in aerospace. Any space faring would adopt anti EMP technology, particularly crystalline entities. As for space, pulsars and other natural electromagnetic emissions would demand defensive measures for spacecraft.
