It's chilly morning for a couple who are heading out to a wedding. The date is March 14th 1775, an important year in American history but just another day in the lives of many. How did these people dress? How did they shave or even brush their teeth? Things that we take for granted today looked completely different 250 years ago. Today we'll try on beautiful clothing from our old friends, Samson Historical.
You can find their shop here: www.samsonhistorical.com/
Samson also has a thorough cataloge with full color photos. You can request for one to be sent to your residence from their website here:
www.samsonhistorical.com/page...
Samson offers a wide range of goods that can be used in both a modern and a historical setting. They offer men and women's clothing, home furnishings including blankets and pottery. Shooting supplies, tradtionally crafted glass bottles, personal care, men and womne's footware, leather goods and care, teas, iron cookware, redware and so much more. I am often asked where I obtain my historically accurate equipment and honestly most of it comes from Samson! Once you browse their site you may recgonize some of their goods that I use in my cabin. Whenever I order from them I recieve my package within 3 days too which is excellent. I can't recomend them enough for those seeking traditional craftsmenship.
All of the cosmetics and toiletries, minus the shaving equipment and soap, were purchased from Littlebits on Etsy. Her shop specilizes in recreating historical toiletries using real period recipes.

For those looking for historically accurate clothing, cookware, and more things then I can list really check out Samson Historical. Some of you have heard me talk about them before when you've asked me where I get my cookware from. They know that I like them and I've been purchasing from them for years. I'm their #1 fan! They have a website and a catalogue. They just released a new catalogue in fact (you can request for one to be mailed to you from their website). If you are a reinactor, or just dabble in tradtional folkart and cookware you won't be dissapointed if you give them a try. Here is their site and you all have a great day! www.samsonhistorical.com/

I recall watching my great-grandmother--who was born in 1892--wash her face each morning in her bedroom with a pitcher and basin when there was a bathroom with running water just across the hall. That was between the years of 1976--1981. She would get up around 5:00 am and I would secretly watch her go through this ritual of hers that I found festinating. I now understand why she never used the sink in the bathroom with the running water. This was a woman who was born in the 1800's. I wish that I had interviewed her about her life before she passed away at the age of 101...... Anyhow, I love you Mom Mom, RIP.

My usual go to has been Townsends & Sons however for basic necessities Sampson Historical has really great prices. Cookie presses and sugar savers for $4-$5. Their stoneware and wooden utensils and dishes are very affordable, their wooden bowls are around $20, spoons $4. Small cast iron pot for $20. Love the red ware plates, small ones were $12. And I love that they sell products that you just really can’t find anymore, in traditional packaging. Like their liquid rouge, soaps, combs, toothbrushes, salves, pot scrubbers, $3 cotton woven hand towels. And I LOVE the teas and spices, again, all traditionally packaged for the most part and highly affordable. They don’t upcharge for the novelty of it. And that makes me think they’re truly just passionate about this stuff.

@@lisacelentano3934 Cartridges for his rifle and pistol. This was well before ones made of brass. People used black powder, paper and melted lead in molds to make bullets which they used to "roll their own" cartridges.

This was epic! I loved how you both were not only teaching about this time period but also acted like you were really there. Honestly the best thing I have seen in forever! Everything you both did was historical in line with what could have happened in 1775 and the only monderized thing was the cameras. I really felt like I was drawn back in to the 1700's America.

Really enjoy what the morning ritual was like just getting washed and dressed was so time consuming. Having to get those embers blazing to heat water just to wash. No wonder some didn’t bother. This is a real authentic eye opener. You mean Ron has nothing under the nightshirt? Imagine having to wash up children too then commence making breakfast. Boy are we lucky.

Love this so very much. I'm a visually impaired lover of living history stuff like this. Its so natural and makes me think this might be what a middle class couple in 1775 might act like. I think its important to try to keep those sorts of things alive. If I were able I'd love to live this way myself.
