I've personally killed a coyote beside a drilling rig here in west Texas and they are covered in lights and loud as hell but they are there long enough to begin to get comfortable with it! I love the show and it's the reason I decided to build a rack for my truck 💪🏼

the difference with coyotes is how they perceive that light , if they had a good or bad expoerience when around it , like a "trap smart " coyote that been pinched by a trap, had one that would digout the trap at just about ant given set , had a unique knack to trip the trap and then steal the bait

The comments that you guys get remind me of the that fisherman that posts a lot of salt water fishing videos and once in a while he will get comments about a fishing lure that will get shot down by the keyboard experts that have never even tried the lure or only used it a couple of times in the wrong area and declare they’re being fed false information. I wish I was in better health because I would LOVE to try out these lights. I’ve seen a lot of coyotes in my area Cape Cod Massachusetts both day and night and I have yet to see one of these super smart coyotes wearing a cap and gown from his/her university so I think you’re right on the money with people that give up too quickly. If all people quit that easily there would be very few deer hunters, stripper fishermen or large and smallmouth bass fishermen if they went out and got skunked after two trips. I’m pretty certain that Cabela’s and Bass Pro shops are on to something after all these years.

How's it going guys I'm from Louisiana first off as someone that hunts coyotes 6 times out 10 in Texas for a few inlaws on some of their ranches Texas dogs are more pressured than peer pressure no doubt enough said haha but over the line here in ole Louisiana from what I've studied and gathered from what I've seen on video and in person for the past 5 years is that more suburban Coyotes have learned to be quiet as a whisper to hunt and not be detected n they know light is food and danger and acknowledge where there always stationary in and around suburbs or a little out of town houses and patches of woods and any new or different colors lights they'll take a few days to make sure there's no danger to come with this new light, color, or source of the light from a different area and breeding of suburbs to more rural Coyotes or visa versa where pups seems more smarter and cautionary because of what the parents teach and internal passing down through genetic but that's all upon just pure observation now I've seen this playout over time of my own asking of why from straight wilderness Coyotes to the one that are religiously hunting suburbs to the (evolved) or as one can say where (breeding with genetics) and have been taught from (parents of both worlds) learning a pup good and bad of both rual and subs areas but hunting them while knowing this makes a real all about it hunter that's really passionate for the hunt preservation of the numbers for a humain n ethical eco should know no matter where the hunt is light, thermals, any matter of hunting these Coyotes is if you can get and keep ahold of his curiosity and attention he is until smell tells him to switch of and run until that he is coming and that's for the (smarter) and(dumber) dogs there times where they let older member go out and if nothing happens then they'll journey out Iv had dogs so close just to get shots on the ones use older (dumber) or not hip to the trim Coyotes as bait more less but that is what I've seen even ones not really wanting to cooperate it's but ones you hear and never see are gun shy as you may use the turn are missed dogs that didn't have the opportunity off a good shooter severed with the taste of hot led

Well here's some food for thought. They won't go to the light in Ohio because they can hear and smell the clapped of Ford Ranger, Motley Crue cranked and the sound of 8,000 rpm of American eagle screams coming from the zoomie headers sticking out of the hood! That could be a reason they don't go to the light up your way!

I sent you a message in messenger Chris, I’m from southern Ohio, and I’d love to put this myth to rest with your help! I reached out to you, we’d really enjoy having you up here in ohio for a weekend or something to see what we can come up with we hunt thousands and thousands of acres and have access to coyotes that have never even seen people… but we too have struggled the last 3-5 years as to why a coyote wouldn’t commit to light, even a red one at that.. but then that same coyote would come in to an IR light the same place maybe even the next night… I’m sure you get these offers a lot and are a very busy guy but mine still stands! I’ve got some good looking ground I could definitely see a coyote dying with some white light

I wouldn't have believed it here in the State of Georgia either because of the silly Myths I been told since youth. O you have to use red or amber lens they said. Not, true! I know different now and have since changed to white and after repeated success I no longer own or care to see another red or amber len. Because that's just a myth. Plus, I no longer need a a separate light mount on scope of my gun. Which means my hunts are ever more enjoyable. I feel so foolish at the money I have wasted on lights and listening to the Myths of what does and doesn't work. Thank you so, much I appreciate and seen first hand this works.

Probably comes down to learned behaviour, if they've experienced light and humans then they know to run. Vehicle light, housing light, street lights, flashlights.

The only reason we don’t run lights here where I hunt in eastern PA because people are nosey and will blow there horn. I used to run red lights all the time then people would spot light and blow there horn and make ruckus.

Sufficed to say it works on "enough" to be worth it, if it doesn't work on a few then switch to thermal. Use a the recorded sounds or do not use baited traps, if it works use it if it doesn't switch to what works. If the goal isn't be be right every time but to have the tools to handle just about every situation... what does it matter the mans if the goal is achieved? Clearly you guys have found what work "enough" for you but you also use other means, like you should.

I agree with it all living where i live in northwestern NC it’s incredibly tough and only gets harder each yr with what seems like zero unpressured coyotes to hunt any more .. almost any giving farmer that will give us permission also gives whomever else ask’s permission as well . Our new struggle this yr is farmers that won’t allow deer hunting are telling us we can’t hunt coyotes cause they kill deer ..

Man night or day, the only thing that makes a “smart” coyote is an education. They aren’t born with it. I hunt a lot of day pressured areas at night and clean up. Also I day hunt heavily pressured areas that get hit at night and kill a bunch. Find what their education is, what classes they took and what grade they’re in, then you got em!

im trying to decifer if the coyote is educated to light to know that means danger and then may associate that sound to danger. Just like if a coyote winds you, will he associate that sound with danger or if you shoot and miss will he associate that sound with danger. Im guilty to this, but i wonder if a guy should hold off from shooting if the coyote hangs up or shys from lights or winds me because maybe the coyote is just shy or very smart, but doesn't know 100 percent if he was right by shying away.

Chris, have you tried a light setup like that with IR lights inside of LED? I bought a Canon XA50 that has the night mode or whatever but I couldn’t seem to get the IR to go out far enough to make it worthwhile. I had a custom mount made and four coyote cannons.

I understand. Just out of curiosity, changed in what way in your area? Around here with as much thermal is out there we’ve noticed them being much more responsive of trucks stopping on the road a lot more so than I. The past. Night hunting has now pretty much become a year round thing so there’s much less of a traditional break like they had before thermal.

@@nightcrew3115 I think a lot of the problem with the coyotes is honestly they don’t see light at night time if they don’t want to here in southern Ohio if a coyote wants pitch black darkness it’s not too hard to get with the hills and bottoms we have, so I’ve thought that maybe eventually they’ve put lights and people together.. we get a lot of coon hunters, as well as people who drive the rivers to fish at night so one thing I could think of is that over time these dogs associated people with lights or maybe even coon hounds but either way I’d love to give you guys an invite to make it happen we don’t have the means to make lights like you guys but if you ever wanted to give it a try let me know! "My coyotes won't do that!" How do they know if they haven't tried? We have found with lights on foxes, the ones that don't like lights tend to have been shot at and missed, so they become lamp shy. In other words, they aren't all that dumb as they are learning. So, I'd say you are correct.

I don't know about the guys in the video, but in my area, "pressured" coyotes simply mean coyotes that reside in an area that is heavily hunted by humans. Example: In the counties in which I have hunted coyotes in for the past 50+ years, the properties (& resident coyotes) get hunted by coyote callers; coyote hunters that use trucks and greyhounds; and coyote hunters that use trucks and shotguns.

I live in Minnesota and coyote hunting in the day is impossible. They are not active during the day. Now other states, coyote hunters have no problem with coyote hunting during the day. it comes down to human activity and I think when prey is most active and easier to get.

So it's actually funny you talk about coyotes from Ohio lol but I know you just used that for an example but I'm from Ohio and I wouldn't argue that lights work what I would argue with is the amount of pressure and education coyotes in my area get I'm new to this game and you guys have taught me a lot but me and a friend started out with lights not exactly knowing what we were doing and never had any luck so I saved up and got a pretty good night vision setup and a thermal scanner now and we immediately started killing coyote so here's my experience knowing people and hearing stories everyone has a spot light and a electronic call a lot of them were just like me when I started they don't know what their doing all they know is they hear coyotes all the time and their neighbors said to go hunt them and in my area we have several 50 to 100 acre farms not 1000 acre farms we don't have the land like people do in other states and we have a pretty high population of people on land that's not spread out so when any hillbilly can go buy a call and a light and they don't know what their doing its making it difficult fir the guys that do know what their doing now this is just where I'm located in ohio I'm not saying the whole state is like this but I have seen dumb coyotes that I knew for a fact never in their life heard a call or seen a light and still to this day I've never seen anything like it since so I do personally believe it matters where your at bigger farms less people equals coyotes that aren't that smart and not to mention Ohio doesn't have the numbers of coyote even remotely close to let's say south Dakota so I personally would never use lights again just because I know there's that one less thing to factor out which would be maybe these coyotes will come into a call but not a light

I’m starting to think that a lot of eastern coyotes have some gray wolf mixed in with them. Which has been proven. But I’m wondering if the crossbreed might have more sensitive eyes. I’m no expert but it’s just a theory. I have heard of some coyotes being mixed with Mexican red wolves. Then you have to figure in coy-dogs too. A genetic study of coyotes killed under white lights vs red or green lights would be interesting! Could have something to do with the genetic makeup in each coyotes territory. I guess it could vary from pack to pack. But it’s not uncommon to see coyotes standing under street lights in city limits! Love the videos!

I've hunted Ohio coyotes since 1998. The difference is Ohio doesnt have huge properties. There's a road every mile when you hit them with lights from a vehicle thats danger and they run. I have hunted Texas and there miles and miles of nothing without paved roads. A coyote that's never been hit with a light before doesnt know its danger

Maybe so regarding Ohio coyotes being afraid of lights but the area in Texas we actually live in is extremely populated. In fact probably more so than the areas you describe so they see and interact with vehicles and lights app the time. Deep South Texas or west Texas in more desolate areas not so much. We would argue if that was a possibility, we would most certainly experience that in the particular area we hunt as we live and film within 50 miles of DFW in highly populated areas almost exclusively. My gut tells me if you found a coyote in Ohio that hadn’t seen it, it would act very similar to a coyote here that hadn’t seen it. There may just be much less of those in Ohio than in Texas due to coyote population and numbers compared to here. Thus making it harder to find them. In the end, they’re still a sum of their experiences and what they’ve seen in their life.

@nightcrew3115 I agree with that what I did notice about Texas is the amount of coyotes. I counted as many as 20 in one field while pig hunting. I'd have the hunt a entire night dark to daylight to see double digits. We can kill 10 a night here but that's hunting your tail off. The population differences is huge. I'm sure that's probably different all over the state because it is here as well.

Ok in the state of Wisconsin you can only use the light "at the point of kill". In other words you can't be swinging a light for a half hour because then they claim you are shining deer which is illegal here. And i think that is a crock of crap. You can't even use inferred because that is a light. So most hunting is done during day light hours only. And at 5 grand for thermal is way beyond most hunters pocket book.

I understand your frustration. There’s ways of getting all that changed with the right push for new legislation. South Dakota, Kansas, Oklahoma just had the laws changed to where they should be as lots of states have very dated night hunting laws like what you’re describing. Bottom line, it is possible going through the right channels as those states a proof laws can be changed and if there’s ever a time to go about it, it’s now following the changes in those states. I believe Missouri also just made night hunting legal. Anyway, thx for watching

If you are shining lights for coyotes, but the light shines on a deer, you are NOT hunting deer, you just happened to shine a light on a deer while hunting coyotes, or hogs, or whatever night huntable game you are in pursuit of.

Eventually the weary animals rather it's smart or genetics or what have you, maybe cautious animals will not step foot onto a roadway will survive vs ones who get ran over. Lights or cars either way an educated animal rather it's the shooter or the driver, when educated results matter...
