you have become my comfort youtuber, and honestly a source of inspiration of how my future wants to be. i just recently graduated from university and have been struggling emotionally. i’m also a woman on the spectrum, and there are so many jobs that turn me away because i disclose my multiple disabilities. it’s so hard, and i’m not sure what to do with my life at all; if i even want to continue pursuing what i graduated for. i tend to feel behind, and like I should brush off my autism and force myself into something that’ll eventually break me. finding an apartment is horrendous, don’t have enough money, all while balancing a long distance relationship where all we want to do is move in together and live peacefully. but you’ve helped me tremendously, reminding me to embody the spiritualism of a snail who takes things slow and isn’t worried what’s ahead. please continue sharing what you love, and good job on passing ❤️

found your channel like yesterday and im SO glad I did! while I love watching bookish videos in theory, it's often really hard for me to keep paying attention bc my attention span is pitiful tbh, but there's something so special about the way you edit your videos that keeps calling me back and makes it so much easier!!! I think its either a combo of imagery (changing angles, backgrounds, etc) and also the sound effects that make your videos so much more dynamic and enjoyable, sort of like a movie but much more cozy, and I just wanted to tell you that I really appreciate it !!!

I’m reading Song of Solomon now and loving it. It’s my fourth Morrison and interesting you commented on the structure because I actually think it’s a lot more linear and consequential than most of her other works. I recommend Sula to read next, it’s probably the easiest to follow of the ones I’ve read although The Bluest Eye is my favourite 😊

I didn't read Song of Solomon along with the bookclub because I actually read it just a few months ago. I also struggled with the structure and I didn't love it. The themes discussed were incredible poignant and important. I did think the writing was beautiful, particularly around the themes you mentioned. My favorite part though was her description of the terror of the woods. As someone who has grown up in a forest my entire life, most people cannot capture the essence of what's truly scary about the woods. She does it precisely. Talking about the beauty and serenity, and then suddenly how one thing can change the entire landscape into a plethora of unfamiliar paranoia that is not on your side, (and has it ever been?) So overall, honestly not a new favorite, but I really enjoyed it and I'm glad that I read it. and again congrats on passing your course! We know you worked really hard!

Gyo is a good one from Junji Ito! Also there’s a short story of his that’s included in Tomie or Gyo that’s called The Enigma of Amigara Fault and that one was unsettling af I still think about it years later.

Good to hear I’m not the only one who didn’t think Priory lived up to the hype! I loved the setting and themes but by the time I was halfway through the book I felt like I already knew the end and the characters in a flat way and it definitely felt more like a story being told to me than a story coming to life.

with Junji Ito, i recommend his version of Frankenstein! it’s pretty much word for word of the original, but i’m a fan so it was really cool! it also includes some interconnected original short stories at the end that are some of the best i’ve read from him. and his short story collections Shiver! that’s another favorite of his for me 🖤
