As a doctor, my advice to anyone thinking about being a doctor is to sit down with absolutely no distractions and ask yourself if you see yourself doing anything other than medicine. If you can, do that instead of becoming a doctor. Medicine is not easy, it takes up a lot of your time and some people just don't like it enough to dedicate so much of their life towards it, it doesn't mean you're not smart, it just means you have different interests and that's ok.

People often underestimate the effort students put towards pursuing a certain degree and how much it affects us be it for validation or not. The constant pressure is so overwhelming that there’s a constant guilt of not doing well enough. I totally understand you Lani! It’s alright. I just hope you make your life rich in memories and real experiences 🤍🫂

Lani you are not alone I was planning on going to medical school and had a big experience that impacted me not wanting to go to medical school. I graduated from my masters in 2022. I got my masters in medical science and bachelors in biology. I was a medical assistant while in school and shortly afterwards. It was hard for me transitioning from going to medical school because I was worried people would see me as a failure or be disappointed. But now I am very happy and am pursuing clinical research. Mentally wanting to go to medical school and big commitment just no longer aligned with my life plans. You are not alone. Explore! Explore! There are soooooo many careers in the science field that still revolve around working with patients. You got this ❤️

- would have panicked if a dentist has just told me "I'll let you know" and then stayed in silence for the rest of the procedure - autumn is my favorite season, i just cant wait to decorate my room, let us see if you got some decoration, here in Hungary we have somuch cute stuff - I was also all about my studies, career, I tought I have it all fugured out and then turned 24 and got so lost. Found out nearly everyone is lostin my age :D that made me feel better a bit. I figured out getting back to my studies would be the way for me now

Omg yess, love your point of view! I always wanted to study medicine but i didn’t get in, so now I’m finishing my career in psychology! I was disappointed too because it wasn’t what i always planned, it’s really hard to choose something that we really enjoy when we’re so young and just learning what we want, of course we can change our minds! Right now I enjoy psychology and the lifestyle I can balance with this career… but of course its never too late to study more things in the future:)

Hey Lani! I can 100% relate. I graduated like a year or so before you with a Bio degree and was also extremely dedicated to the pre-med path. When I graduated around the peak of COVID I just remember feeling conflicted about what I actually wanted to do. I graduated with Honors and all these experiences under my name but something just wasn't clicking at the time with the idea of immediately leaping into med school applications... So I took a gap year and did a research fellowship and then AmeriCorps where I did full time community service with patients in an underserved health clinic. It was SO eye-opening and educational. I LOVED it and recommend it to any pre-med who wants to do service and get more experience. But it was also a way for me to "figure out" if working in the healthcare space was (or wasn't) right for me at the time. It definitely opened up my mind to other possibilities. To make a long story short, I am also no longer considering med school at the moment. I pivoted into a completely different career plan and am actually working in a field that genuinely makes me happy & excited 🥰 I still have immense appreciation for people on the premed journey and definitely would love to do a Masters degree in the future so Right there with you! ☺💖
