Hi Emily, I've been a silent watcher ever since November, and today I felt like saying something! I absolutely adore your vlogs, really like the cozy vibes and your editing style! I also started my first Fantasy project and I totaly understand what you were saying in this video! I'd write over 1k every single day, and then it came to a part where I felt bored (also a very different idea sparkled in my mind, which did not help!), but it will pass, and things will flow again! And the biggest thing I have to say is thank you for sharing your writing with us! It's very generous, and it takes courage. Also you're not alone, I know for a fact I'm writing in 3rd person, but there's a chapter I fully wrote in 1st. And it's ok, it's the very first draft, 90% will change. It doesn't have to be perfect, we only need the foundation, of what one day will be a beautiful castle

@@marisasantos3468 hi marisa!! thank you so much for being here and thank you for your thoughtful comment 🩷 i was definitely nervous to share even a tiny snippet like this one, but i'm so glad you enjoyed it! keeping in one tense is my most frequent error haha, but that's what editing and second and third drafts are for. good luck with your projects!! 🫶🏻

loved this vlog and the beginnig was so calming. Totally hear you when you say "the initial honeymoon phase is over" haha. And that's okay, I think it makes it a bit easier to look at it more objectively, too (at least in my case!). but that honeymoon phase also feels sooooo good. :)

This video is such a vibe 🤩 I love the idea of a brain dump notebook, I feel like that would be super useful for keeping track of thoughts and ideas…. I just have a million notes in my notes app scattered around 😅😅 great video!!

@@awritingdai thank you so much Dai!! 🥰🥰 the brain dump notebook has been such a staple for keeping everything in one place. i know some people do a digital one, but i like thinking on paper first so a physical book w goes a long way for me. highly recommend!!!

This felt like the friendliest, gentlest cozy catch up with a fellow writer! The character mood boards-- omg! There's something about a well constructed collage that's *magical* LOVE the working title. The excerpt you shared was so enticing - I appreciate how you're handling character motivations vs what they're outwardly saying. Vulnerable brave work sharing!! I truly think December is a time meant to rest, and January is similar to that, too. We ebb and flow with the seasons and the less I resist, the happier I am with my creative endeavors. I'm still trying to find spaces to connect irl with other writers, but I thought I'd share my Jan progress with you, if you're receptive!! As of today, I'm sitting at 7,792 words for January. I was hoping to reach 10k but I am feeling really happy with the progress I'm making, since I didn't participate in Nano and I'm vvvery much leaning into the slow and steady 😊

Ahhh over 7k is amazing!!! thank you so much for sharing & you should be so proud of yourself! i know i am proud of you! absolutely agree that december is for rest, i just always seem to forget that as soon as it hits. slow & steady all the way! 🐢🐌

Okay, stop. We had an identical December/January! I took a needed but unexpected break from writing, created story collages on my iPad, and recently got back to it barely managing a few thousand before getting stuck/disenchanted 😂 Great excerpt by the way, doesn’t come across as rough or unpolished as you prefaced! Cheers to the new year! 🎉

that is uncanny omg! to a tee!! i feel like i have to trick my brain by saying "im just going to open my draft and see what's going on in there" because if i tell myself i have to write, i immediately find 27 other things to do instead. 😌 thank you so much!!! i am glad i decided to be brave & share it. 🫶🏻 cheers to you as well! i have decided that 2025 is going to be our year! ✨

I give my characters a general direction and then I’m just along for the ride, to see where they go and how. 😅 Not worrying too much over first drafts is hard but necessary. Nobody writes a (good) bestseller in one go. Thanks for sharing your excerpt - that’s so hard for most of us newer writers.
