Isn't it simpler to just substitute z by (t-1)^3 in the first method

Curious indeed. I obtained the same result as Syber (up to 7:27, at least), but I feel like I've fallen short of "solving" the differential equation because I cannot express y as a function of x alone, or x as a function of y alone.
