Minnesota lawyer and popular KZbin content creator Nick Rekieta experienced a dramatic downfall in early 2024, marked by erratic behavior and troubling incidents during his streams. His decline coincided with receiving a replica of Chris Chan's infamous Sonichu medallion in October 2023. Fans speculated the medallion was cursed, causing Rekieta's issues, including substance abuse and legal troubles. The meme gained traction after KZbinr Chris Bores elaborated on the supposed curse in viral videos.

The more logical explanation is: if you don't know the dark depths of the internet well enough to know what Sonichu represents and why you shouldn't put it on or rep it in any way, content creator as a career will eat away at your soul until you're driven to do some astronomically stupid shit. You're eventually going to be bombarded by enough gross dark shit that enhances your vices and dark worldview that will tank your presence or your life.

It should be worth noting that the sonichu curse predated Rekieta. The belief was that there was a “magi-chan” demon that was possessing Chris chan and jumped to Ethan Ralph (who was present during the arrest) causing his 2021/2022 decline as well. Some speculate that the curse then jumped from Ethan Ralph to Nick Fuentes causing the decline of him and his political movement (such as the comically disastrous Kanye campaign)

Chris Chan's lifestory is such a disturbing, gutwrenching, & infuriating tragedy! At the end of the day, we are talking about a moderately autistic person with the mental capacity of a 7-year-old(despite what Chris believes, they're clearly not high-functioning) who was failed spectacularly by their moronic parents, and who was driven batshit insane through being relentlessly bullied, deceived, & manipulated online for over 15 years! Chris is a victim. I'm not saying that Chris has never done anything wrong, but ultimately, Chris is a victim. Chris was born to the wrong people at the wrong time. A time when there was a very limited understanding of autism among medical professionals.

I'm pretty sure he/him is correct as he literally said at one point that he "transitioned" just to get into women's pants. Given what he did to his mother, I'm inclined to believe this. It helps that a close trans friend of mine, who's admittedly more on the pulse of this kind of stuff than I am, tells me that the trans community as a whole is well aware of Chris Chan's sham, denounces him, and denies his feminine identity.

Chris did get a professional opinion, but at the same time, it does seem highly likely he did it because he believes it would increase his chances of getting laid. I still remember that cringey video where he tried to organize an all-girls sleepover... As for the LGBT community, from what I've seen, it seems to be somewhat split; some believe Chris really is trans, others believe he isn't. It's all pretty up in the air and I think there's basically been this silent agreement upon everyone to refer to Chris with whatever pronouns you want.
