I never knew i would need a cursive typewriter til I saw your videos. I owned one ultra portable typewriter when i started this project about sending typewritten letters and sending it in a postal mail again. Cursive has an extra nice looking feels in the paper.

Great video. I especially like the history, the detailed demonstration of squaring the paper, as well as setting the margins. Well done. More content about typewriters, please. P.S. I would love to receive a letter like that.

Oh, I absolutely need one of these Torpedos with cursive font. I have a cursive wheel for my electric Olivetti Praxis 200, but the font is not as beautiful as the one on your Torpedo. And I prefer mechanical typewriters anyway- I bought the Praxis mostly because of the great modern design.

Thanks so much! It is pretty great. It is so loud. The keys hit hard. It is brilliant though. So well made and the typeface looks amazing. Thanks for watching this one.

Hello Hemingway! How awesome is this? Never heard of a cursive typewriter…did your Grandma leave you her typewriter? Another great history lesson…love it! Lol. My fountain pen ink haul order has been delayed almost a month because they don’t have Diamine Oxblood and Bleu Myositis from J. Herbin…hopefully soon it will arrive…and I could use a typewriter now!!! Love the MontBlanc 149 and Oxblood ink is one of my new favorites. Do you have any favorite paper brands you would recommend for fountain pen inks? This is second typewriter video of yours I watched and I liked it. Thanks for sharing video!

Thanks for watching the typewriter ones! I appreciate it. Sadly, I do not have my grandmother’s typewriter. I wonder what happened to it. Cursive machines are great. I have two and I cherish them both. I hope your ink comes! Rhodia, Clairefontaine, and Tomoe River are all good. I prefer the two former though. Thanks!

Hi HJ! Another German typewriter make with a pretty good key action are the Adler machines. Learned how to type on one of those in High School back in the 1980's(!) It was a standard sized Adler, and the typing teacher told me it was set up to type like an electric. Don't know if that was true or not, but I bought an Adler portable several years ago and I love how it types! Of course I like my Olympia, too! The "Streamlined" case was about as cool as the typewriter!

To my great delight, I just discovered your channel. I see you're a fan of Hen. V, too. We few, we happy few.... Like you, I love good cursive style writing. Years ago, I was an early adopter of the IBM Selectric typewriter with a number of balls. My overwhelming favorite was a more-or-less cursive style typeface ball. Unfortunately, I broke the cursive ball and was never able to get a replacement. And like you, I, too, love fountain pens. I include a few Montblancs in my collection and some specialty calligraphy pens. Alas, being left handed, the "thicks and thins" just don't work right so the results are less than pleasing even when the my letters are nearly perfectly formed (which isn't very often). Nonetheless, my lack of skill does not lessen my passion for beautiful writing.

Nice! One of my typewriters is a Brother SX-4000. (Like a Nimbus 4000?). Was hoping to get a cursive or script daisy wheel for it. The one I saw was quite ugly compared to yours and others. Bought the machine a few years ago so I would stop spending time looking looking at them on the Internet late at night. It was a lot like poring over the Sears catalog at Christmastime when I was a kid. Noisy and a little maddening, but puts out beautiful print that doesn’t look much like it came from a typewriter.

I've owned a whole bunch of cursive typewriters, including a 1957 Smith-Corona electric, the first electric portable, a few other S-C machines, plus Royal, Olivetti, Olympia and Hermes. Owned the Script balls and wheels for a whole bunch of IBM machines that I used in my business, though strangely I only used them for Christmas and birthday cards! I still have a really cool Smith-Corona Electra 120 portable typewriter with a huge 6-pitch primary school type; it's so big and takes up so much of the ribbon that only an all black ribbon can be used. You know what I wish I could find? Replicas of all those IBM and Olivetti and Olympia typestyles for my desktop. Unfortunately, when you Google typewriter fonts, etc., they are all really crummy looking imitations of worn-out, poorly maintained typewriters with crooked letters and dodgy ribbons. These kids don't understand how often we cleaned those type bars, how often we changed ribbons (I usually did weekly when volume typing) and how well maintained we kept those money makers! All these young people see are the awful ones in thrift stores and flea markets...nice Torpedo BTW. I knew them but never owned one, was always either S-C or Olivetti for most of mine...

@@HemingwayJones I still have a tiny Hermes Baby from the fifties in crinkle-gray and an Olympia SF from the sixties, equally tiny. S-C did the Corsair and Corsair Deluxe but they were awful typers. My favorite vintage portable is a 1932 Underwood Noiseless restored for me by Bill Wahl in Mesa. However, realistically, because of so many years spent typing at up to 130wpm on some processors, a manual portable is more romantic than practical. I do have an LC Smith Super-Speed that's a great typer from the thirties, and a 1939 Underwood World's Fair machine restored for me by St. Louis Typewriter Co. I always liked office manuals and still own a brand-new Olivetti Linea 98 office manual, the last office manual they made. I have another one that I've typed on a lot and they are great typers. I learned in the sixties on the great Underwood Five, one of the last 'real' Underwood machines before switching to Olivetti-made machines under the Olivetti-Underwood name. Without doubt, the best manual office machine ever made was the Swiss-made Hermes Ambassador; I have one and one can switch instantly from fabric to carbon ribbons, and it can double as a boat anchor in one's spare time! Actually, the Hermes 3000 could claim credence as the best portable manual...however, like with fp's, the thing is to use them, not drool over them.

@@HemingwayJones The Baby and the Rocket are so amazing for their size. I bid many years ago on EB for a Smith-Corona Skyriter as it's also small but didn't win it. As a guy who has concentrated on office machines, the Baby, with its tiny profile and light weight, occupies a special place in the last century along with the Olivetti Lettera 22 and 32, as a very popular machine with journalists, travel writers and also pro writers of every stripe--and deservedly so!
