There are many boats that stir interest, there are few that reach into your heart. This is one of those few boats that deserve the highest praise. As a 74 yo who sailed on and off since I was 20 I hope this boat finds similar love to what this family has brought. Wow!

It is a unique boat. I think it's great of the builder/designer/captain to not worry about money but about the care the new owner will give her. It does take a special person to want to own a wooden boat. Please, please, please do a follow up on the new owner. Keep the good stuff coming guys.

I want to applaud you guys for the conscious attention given to the applicable use of the word “new”. Merlin is a boat for young guys. I tried Clive Cussler for the first time recently. Not for me.
@boatfools27 күн бұрын
I thought I replied to this earlier, but apparently it was a misfire! Yes, thank you! We caught ourselves several times. Still a work in progress. If you haven’t, try older Cussler titles, like SAHARA. His first non-fiction work, THE SEA HUNTERS, is fascinating. I was one of his editors for a brief while, so I have a soft spot for the late legend…

This boat and I deserve each other. Fifty years a professional seaman, longtime wooden boat owner. Live in Maine coast. I could never afford to buy but, but I could keep it flawlessly and cruise it widely, and charter it out reasonably so all could enjoy it, too.

Wow. A very cool classic boat. I don’t know if he would be ok with this boat going south, but I would love to have this at my home in New Orleans to sail on lake Pontchartrain and the Gulf of Mexico. I may give it a shot since my daughter and I are on the lookout Forman classic wood sailboat of this size to cruise the gulf coast and beyond. Thanks!

Oh wow, it's beautiful. The owner clearly wants it to go to someone who will love it, as he does, and not let it languish in a marina somewhere without any care. I would meet the first requirement, but I'm probably a bit shy of the decades of experience he likely expects to see on the buyer's sailing resume 😥

I probably wouldn't qualify either, but I would try if I didn't already have a boat... Thanks for watching and for your comment!

Interesting boat. The interior is very basic and functional. Now here are my comments as a person who owned, rebuilt and maintained a classic wooden boat for 15 years. 1. The transom definitely looks like it needs some work up possible replacing some planks. 2. The framing as shown in the forward compartment is light for that size boat. By light I mean that the scantlings of the frames are smaller than I would expect and the frame spacing is bigger than I would expect. 3) The deck needs a good deal of fairing. I am definitely not a fan of wood stoves in boats. You mentioned that it will pump a lot of heat into the boat at the beginning and end of the season. Unfortunately it will do the same on those hot July and August days. What I really don't like about that kind of stove is that you can't turn it off. Finally, a wood stove on a boat can cover the decks with soot. The topsides need paint and the Ballast casting need to be taken back to bare metal and faired. Here is my advice to a potential buyer. 1) Using a plastic hammer or plastic screw driver handle go over the entire hull tapping every plank every couple of inches. Any spot where the wood doesn't give a nice sharp sound likely needs to be replaced. Inside the boat poke every frame every inch or so with a sharp screw driver to find any soft spots. While you are doing that look for cracked or broken frames particular;y any place where the frames bend significantly like the turn of the bilge. Fortunately the lack of ceiling will make that pretty easy, bit you may need to remove the cabin sole to get to the top of the keel and the frame ends, which are absolutely critical areas to inspect. I hope the shed is NOT heated.
@boatfools28 күн бұрын
I was thinking about that wood stove in summertime. I would just get a Coleman camp stove and/or a grill. Problem solved. And a lot easier. As always, we appreciate your comments and insight!

Thank you for the reality check vs a good but a little dreamy presentation. It’s important to keep both feet on the ground as even a one dollar dream boat can quickly become a nightmare.

The head looks like it’s in a janitor closet. The Charlie Noble placement makes an all weather dodger a difficult proposition. Brown wood overhead down below makes the interior look claustrophobic. No good seating lounge area below for crew. It has all the appearances of a coastal and overnight cruiser, not a long legged girl. Somebody out there will love her details.

The boat is great, very strong structures and bones, it is perfect for the weekend. P.S. The interior height is very low and the stove, its position is somewhat uncomfortable, whether it is charcoal or wood is a merit. You didn't show the ice box, but there's room. It needs a giant Dodger, but there's the stove chimney in the middle. You can make a nice design without moving it or eliminating it, just solarize the heat around the Dogger. Can My rating is: ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ U$D. 50k
@boatfools28 күн бұрын
Appreciate the comments! And thanks for watching! The height is better past the stove/galley, the sole steps down. I’m 6’1” and had decent room throughout, save for that one area.

@boatfools I showed my wife the video and she goes "Do you really think you'd have the motivation to finish Maverick if we got that boat?" To which I said "Probably not, and I don't think anyone else is crazy enough to fix Maverick anyway.". At the same time, having a seaworthy, nearly new by comparison wooden boat to get away from boat work and work work on is very tempting.
