Great post. Scams suck! Being in the printing industry myself, here are a couple of tips that might help as well...Some of the dead give aways that it's a facsimile is the gloss of the ink on the cover and the inside pages when compared to an original (especially blacks). The print may even look like it's sitting on the paper and not absorbed into it. The toner may even flake, chip or crack along the spine or cut edges of the paper. It may even feel like the pages stick together somewhat (from static). As pointed out, comparing the comic to others printed from the same era will help. Paper quality and color is also telling. There is usually some degree of offset from books printed (vs copied) of ink showing through from the other page or leaving a ghosted image. Honestly hope this helps someone out there. Thanks again.

3 additional tips when looking at older books from me (I work in publishing): 1. Rusty staples, but no rust on the book = fake. 2. While appreciate the thought, a slab has the potential to make it worse. You would have the same issue buying a slab over the web - the case could be tampered with and you could not tell in photos. But it could also be the same issue in person. If it is slabbed, how can you inspect the inside pages? Everyone needs to pick their maximum pain price point. Anything over that price should be broken out of the slab and inspected by the buyer or their local agent. Pay someone to authenticate a high dollar purchase.

I think the implied understanding is to compare to photos of a genuine book and look for "differences". Listing all of the possible differences that could be observed and quantifying them completely would be a challenging undertaking. Russ did cover several features briefly that revealed the book to be a fake in his expert opinion. You are correct, if it were a good enough fake even looking at the book in person wouldn't reveal it to be a fake or people could just send you photos of a genuine book and send you a different one or no book at all. We can all imagine many scenarios, but there are few situations in which asking for more information hurts and asking for less information helps. Additionally it would be impossible to know what to look for in every single fake made by every single seller anywhere in the world as their books may not be identical. For myself, I can spectroscopically analyze the paper and the ink with an FTIR but I have to have the book in my possession first.

What l feel is the most interesting is the first time l ever heard of these 99 dollar copies was on either "Comic Toms" or a show similar on KZbin...one of the guys talked about an Amazing Fantasy #15 and said "wow l wouldnt mind owning one"...yup...thats how l felt when l located " the guy" that sold em'... l bought one...2 years later tried to sell it [ AS A COPY ] and the story broke about "Fakes"...see how a word can change everything lol...l pulled it and now have it as mine forever because of the unexpected condemnation surrounding it......here is the best part...the guy that l got it from is a nice guy , he doesn't think he's doing harm...l however finally get it...we live side by side with scam artists this story sickened me... l will never get why but the hobby is never gonna be the same as long as there are scams...and "fear of scams"

They may actually steal it and replace it with another fake!

PGX did grade one and labeled it Counterfeit Comic right on the front. CGC has graded counterfeit Cerebus 1.

FYi, you may want to wait 24 hours to upload videos to maximize your viewership potential, or else the algorithm starts pushing the second video out to everyone before the first one has been seen by your subscribers.

Just imagine if a new grading company pops up & starts grading these fake Hulk 181. 💀📉💸

I fear its coming. Its shockingly easy to have those frame injection molded or vacuum-formed with he right molds. It would be so simple to put a fake cover over any appropriately aged comic book, print a fake label, then just sell the books. all you have to do is print a label with a serial number thats already in the CGC database.

@@ImmaculateComics Yep, I can't post the link but they can found easily via keyword search. And yes, this will get worse before it gets better.
