I like watching fellow Alaskans as I have been one since 1970, right after service worked in the south east till 89 then came to Anchorage but as soon as I visited Wasilla area and I was hooked so moved to valley in 98 and never left. Your garden looks so good. I can live on beet greens!! I lived on a float house in the southeast and had sea food year round. I even had a garden on my float which was large. Seabass and all kinds of fish that probably never had a name, ( very ugly)/LOL I subscribed this morning cause your the kind of people I like even if I am 72

@@503rpf They were lucky enough to be born in the bay area and got into the housing market there before it blew up. Then they used those proceeds to level up in Oregon before the boom happened here and leveled up even more. I looked at the ziilow info and they made like 200k on their Oregon property, likely near the same amount for Cali, if not more it being in the Bay area. Everyone in the West, outside of Cali, knows how Californians sell big and then move to AZ, OR, WA, Alaska, etc and live better than the natives do, driving up home prices in the process. Since then, they're earning a decent salary being influencers, but they couldn't have "retired" at 30 without that Cali deal, that's for sure. I like them and all, but their success--as they have stated in one of their earlier videos--is due mostly to luck in the beginning. Obviously, they have the determination to build off of it though, but it's still a little frustrating how they portray living in Alaska like this when for most Alaskans it is far less romantic and "simple." 20k tractor here, 20k offroad buggy there, 16k boat here, 10k jetski there. remote cabin here, rental property there. No "simple" people can afford that type of stuff in four years without a six figure income and an additional six figure savings!

I’m sure I would like living like this. I’ve been wanting to move to Alaska. They are surrounded by heavenly nature. Many modern people are drawn to nature, to their ethnic roots. Simple, self-sustaining life is a way to go. It’s good for the earth & life on earth. I view modern urbanization as something negative & very destructive, but that’s just my own perception of it. I’m happy for them, and maybe even a little jealous, because they’ve already begun their off grid self-sustaining life, means they are safe from the horrors that are coming in the future. These guys secured their bloodline, safely existing of-grid, not relying on any system, or on anyone. Living a healthy beautiful life. Good for you guys.

I'm just wondering why you carry a gun, specifically in everyday life on your property etc; is it due to predator potential (ie bears?)? 'Gun culture' (firearms) in Australia is obviously very different to the states.
@redwolfmedia1276
@redwolfmedia1276 4 жыл бұрын
Yeah, I'd say it's different,alot better! I don't know if you've had your head buried in the sand but pretty much by all standards America is the best Country in the World! F.Y.I Media bias is real so until you've lived here don't judge. I just typed in Gun deaths in comparison to lets say D.U.I or automobile accidents and the results were completely artificiallly stimulated and only gave Anti-Gun sources. There's a ton more activities that arguably are more dangerous then owning or carrying a Firearm. Actually 99% of Legal gun owner's never break the Law or cause harm to anyone. almost 100% of gun crime comes from the InnerCities and are committed with Illegally possessed weapons and not stole from Legal owner's and not Gunshow Loopholes! Their committed with Blackmarket weapons shipped in from Mexico. America has strict Gun laws. Everyone,"EVERYONE" must submit to a Background Check to legally own a gun! There is noway anyone that has any type of Felony history can legally purchase a Weapon but the inner city youth are mainly behind this gun crime . When they were discussing and still debating "RedFlag Laws" where anyone could call anyone in and have their weapons seized some Republicans armed with the Facts petitioned the Democrats an amendment siting "Anyone with known Gang Membership or ties should be Red-Flagged immediately upon passing" because the F.B.I and Police data clearly indicate this is where the Majority of Gun crime occurs and not only that it would save thousands of Black and Brown lives,They unanimously Refused it! 99% of Gun Owner's in the U.S. are not GunNuts and never bother or hurt anyone and the Statistics show this Truth. What the Democrats want is to take our guns completely and if they can't do that they want to create so much bureaucratic bullshit it's impossible to legally own a Firearm. Americans aren't callous Gun-nuts,We're Freedom Loving,Caring,compassionate People that have made our Country and the World a better place!

@@redwolfmedia1276 I appreciate the time you took to explain this. I asked with interest and curiosity. FWIW, I don't feel safe that the people in Australia who predominantly have firearms are either 'law enforcement', or criminals/those acquiring them on the black market often for crime. It's also quite common for those who live on the land or attend gun clubs- if we lived on the land, we would also own them. Unfortunately I know someone who is a nutcase and had several despite threatening us, even after reports were made to the firearms branch- so no law is perfect and it's usually the good people who will suffer as the assholes will usually find a way to continue their abhorrent ways. I have fired guns, in fact, I'm quite competitive and often have better accuracy than most of the men around just 'givingi t a go', but I wouldn't feel safe having them around with children in the house. Just like I wouldn't have, or live next door to someone with a pool, or have a balcony, I don't think those,or having guns on my person/in the house are risks worth taking with children around, albeit, unlikely for poor outcomes to occur, the severity of them is too great for me to justify. And yes, the risk of death may be higher in automobile accidents, which is why my children rear face longer, and we choose to drive less, and at less risky times where we can (ie, avoid holidays, long stretches of road, dusk and dawn when 'Roos' (kangaroos) are out in high numbers and jump out in front of cars. I tell you one thing, the Martin Bryant conspiracy sure is believable, and I wouldn't trust our government as far as I could throw ScumMo.

D. E. G. … thanks for your comments on threat assessment/ risk management... interesting to hear those particulars !! Life is, ultimately, a fatal experience … while nobody gets to completely "make their own luck," a reasonably long ride awaits those with the right combination of luck and smarts … Would be great if we could each choose our own gambles, but a lot of risks affect much more than the individual.

I've been thinking about something like that as well because I have had nothing but brake-downs with the modern machines we have today. They have become so complex, fixing them is now beyond my ability and something ALWAYS brakes in them. I really like the idea of just dumping a load into a soaker - go about my other chores, and then return to plunge, rinse, wring, and hang on a line. I'll bet they come out just as clean (if not cleaner) than machine wash. I've given up on my current machine, so I am now taking my laundry into town - a 35 mile drive - paying $2.00 per load, hanging around a laundromat's environment, driving the 35 mile return trip to hang the clothes on a line to dry (can't stand hanging around the laundromat to pay move money to have them dried). Your method seems to me to be so much more better. Where did you get the wringer?

Dennis Bosworth this is a link to the one we bought on amazon, we love it, no complaints, they do also make a 15" wringer I believe. amzn.to/31gknge

I am thinking in places like you (and I) live, predators are not as much a problem because the predators are not hungry. Most people giving advice live in areas where their gardens and livestock stick out like sore thumbs in otherwise food deserts.

It's never too late, I am 2 years from 60 and we live off-grid at 9000 ft in the Rockies, we get 9 ' of snow in the winter and grow a 1/2 acre garden every year (using a greenhouse for winter growing and have goats, chickens, ducks, turkeys and a guinea hen. We live 9 miles from the nearest asphalt road... love it! I wouldn't want to live any other way of life...

Ariel attacks: I have a friend who like you, has quadrant off some land for the chickens to roam and explore. He has suspended pie plates of various sizes and has cut and folded the edges so they spin. Because they move and reflect light it freaks out the hawks and the crows and the owls. Soooooooo maybe you could add that to your anti-predator game plan.

Love what you're doing to live off the grid. Just curious, so many other homesteaders say they add calcium to their chickens diet, do you find the need to do that with your flock? My husband and I are retired and about to move into our vacation home in Pa on a little over 4 acres and plan to have about six laying chickens, no roosters, and soak up everything we can about the care of chickens.
@SimpleLivingAlaska
@SimpleLivingAlaska 5 жыл бұрын
Frances Campbell we do find that adding oyster shells to their diet is great once they start laying, we are a few months away from that so it is unecessary to add to their diet right now ☺
