It is a frequent sadness when I see the weapons of mass destruction being used against the insects and birds, and other small animals we consider pests. They are essentially helpless against us. It causes me heartache, much as the heartache I hear in your voice, Colette, when you talk about killing the bee.

As I plant like my life depends on it, I see the moths, butterflies, bees, dragonflies increasing in numbers. I can just sit out and watch nature for hours. for the first time I had a Great Crested Flycatcher grace the yard and then make her nest here on my front porch in a large hollowed out branch we decorate for the seasons. It was fascinating watching her feed her young. I had a birds eye view of the out the kitchen window. What a treat. My other recent treat was watching a mason bee secure next years mason bees in the arm of my wooden chair on the porch. Soon after I hung the mason bee houses and within days, she had opened the little hole on my chair and afterwards I saw cavities filled in the bee house. Nature is so fascinating. 😘. It’s magic to me. Thanks for sharing all you do!

Wow, serious rain! When we moved into our house on about one third acre things were so out of balance. After 31 years and working to restore a balance we have a delightful amount of insects, spiders, birds, raccoons, opposums, I could go on. It's lovely and feeds our souls. Compost heap, piles of twigs and branches and the like. So many birds nesting and raising their young all on our little spot. We experience great joy watching the life as well as working in the yard and garden for our health. I love the bees and talk to them, encourage them, feed them with the flowering plants. Many water features and bird baths. My water features are all done by me so small but more than adequate or our friends. I don't watch much TV and find it perplexing to see how people live. For my mental health I've pulled back from many situations that involve toxic people (false people). Jack has a wisdom we can only imagine. Blessings to you all on your 3 acres.

True. We need the bees or the eco system would rapidly collapse. Just a week or so ago, I had honey bees nesting in my top attic room. It took the bee keeper to come and remove the hive, so I’m £155 down - but it was money well spent!

Here in Ontario, Canada, we seem to have a great many moths. On Sunday I found 7 Primrose Moths on the Evening Primrose growing wild behind my house. A Wavy-lined Emerald moth was on my window. Hummingbird moths, too, seem very plentiful as well this year. I am frequently seeing them on my walks. But I do live in an area of natural beauty with a small population of humans. I have many "untidy" spots around my home garden. 😊

A very moving and profound post Colette, brought back a similar incident in a pub one night waiting in the foyer for a taxi where a woman also waiting with a rowdy and drunken crowd. There was a beautiful moth taking shelter from the rain on the wall and she just casually swatted it into a pile of dust for no reason. It stayed with me that mindlessly cruel act but probably more so because I didn’t have the courage to speak up on behalf of that poor creature’s life…..thank you for your beautiful posts x

Thank you so much for this video, Colette! I love working in my garden, surrounded by the huge but gentle carpenter bees swarming the clary sage, or the bumblebees enjoying the borage. Yes I have noticed bugs have almost completely disappeared a few years ago. We have little insect houses and piles of sticks, flowers & trees to attract them. When I was little I used to hear the insects whilst laying in bed at night and wonder about their language .. there was one little insect that use to sound like a tiny clock. Also those real housewives for ALL their money have no idea about real life🐝. We should be grateful we are not them 🙌🏼

Good day Colette and Jack. Speaking of wasp, bees, dirtdobbers and hornets, yes, I have them all here in west Tennessee. I have found that they wont deliberately sting unless you make the first aggressive move. When I encounter any of these fellows I just say Hello and leave them alone. Except for the hornet most are just doing their own thing. Now a hornet will challenge you by getting in your face and hovering loudly. I just look at them and say Hello and then pretend to ignore. Lol. Usually works. Now ants are a different story, those little shites will bite. Lol. Have a good day, week etc. Blessings
