A Day in a Geologist's Shoes

Did you know, Saskatchewan has a team of hard working geologists that are busy mapping and surveying the geology of our province? While on my recent trip to Northern Sask, I hopped on a float plane in La Ronge and flew north to Robertson Lake, where I joined the Saskatchewan Geological Survey staff in the field, and explored the waters and Precambrian rock of Northern Saskatchewan! Established in 1948, the Saskatchewan Geological Survey (SGS) is celebrating its 70 years of researching and mapping the geology of Saskatchewan. The information collected through mapping is compiled into reports and maps that are published for public and industry use to help guide the exploration for, and development of, our provinces mineral and energy resources. I had an incredible time tagging along with the SGS, seeing what it was like to be in their shoes for a day, and surveying the Precambrian rock in Northern Saskatchewan!

0:47 The best thing about this guy’s surname (Pidskalny) is that it means ‘the guy from under the rock cliffs’ in several Slavic languages :)) What an appropriate surname for such a profession!!!

One of the reasons I’m choosing to major is geology is because I do like to explore the wilderness and travel and I feel like this is the most funnest job if you get really stressed easily as well , and it also gives you some time to socialize with people have fun and talk

I have a question: Why do the Sahara Desert, the Arabian Desert, the Pakistani-Tibetan Desert and the Gobi Desert form a straight line that is inclined at approximately 40-45 degree angle from the equator? And at the base of this line is the Nadir Crater which is off the coast of Conarky, Guinea in West Africa? Is there a connection between the meteorite that caused the Nadir Crater and these deserts?
