Hello Everyone! Good Morning Good Afternoon or Good Evening! Welcome to episode 07 of the Travel Chikmagalur / Exploring Chikmagalur series. In this video, I show you a really cool place called as Bhadra Wildlife Sanctuary from a different angle and perspective. It is sometimes also known as Bhadra Tiger Reserve , Bhadra Reserve Forest or Bhadra Reservoir. Just a caution, if you are looking to see some animals or birds in the Forest, thhis is not for you.
There is another part of this place which is usually visited from a place called muthodi Forest. Muthodi forest is a dense Jungle. Muthodi forest range is part of the Bhadra Tiger Reserve and an hour's drive from Chikmagalur. But, this video is NOT about Muthodi Forest.
This video is about visiting the Bhadra Wildlife Sanctuary from the Bhadra Reservoir Side and doing a Boat Ride or a Boat Safari instead of a regular Jeep Safari in a forest. There are Jungle lodges to stay at and it is called as River Tern Lodges. If you do a night stay in the River Tern Lodge, it will cost you approximately 8000 Rupees per person per night and it includes all meals and the Boat Safari as well. What I did, is a day visit to Bhadra Wildlife Sanctuary which includes lunch and a Boat Ride, not a Boat Safari.

Bhadra Wildlife Sanctuary is the protected area and the tiger reserve as part of the Project Tiger, situated in Chikkamagaluru district, 23 km south of Bhadravathi city, 38 km 20 km from Tarikere town, northwest of Chikkamagaluru and 283 km from Bengaluru city in Karnataka state, India. Bhadra sanctuary has a wide range of flora and fauna and is a popular place for day outings. The 1,875 m (6,152 ft) above MSL Hebbe Giri is the highest peak in the sanctuary. ( source : wikipedia )

I think it depends on whether you like being on water bodies or on land. I will recommend a boat safari for this place. It is unique and nice.

You can visit for the stay over there. but the boat safari might be closed on rainy days. That is what the authorities had told that time.

Hi! Thank You Both are the same place. Bhadra wildlife sanctuary is a huge forest area which is situated along the banks of the river/Bhadra dam backwaters. They will take you on a 2-3 hour boat safari to those places. When you visit the wildlife sanctuary, you will also come across the dam initially.

Thanks for watching! If you book a day visit package, it includes only boat ride and Lunch. It doesn't include kayaking & 'safari'. I was offered to do kayaking because they were not Ready for the boat ride and had plenty of time. May be you can ask them to let you do. Boat ride is different from boat safari. The Safari is only available for people doing a night Stay. Safari happens for around 2.5 hrs whereas ride is for approximately 30-40 minutes. 9:08

Hi. Thanks for great video. I have a question. How was the road from Bangalore to Chikmangalur to Bhadra? You mentioned it was Ghats roads, is it easy for an amateur driver? Are the roads tarred upto JLR? Are there narrow sections and hairpin bends?

Hi, Glad you liked it✌ Road conditions are great from Bangalore to chikmagalur. After Hassan it is a single lane road. May be just a few bad patches in between. From Chikmagalur to Bhadra, the roads are good too. It depends on which part of chikmagalur district you stay and also your hotel/homestay. Most of the homestays have an off road entry to the property for about 1-2 km. This might be slightly challenging for an amateur driver ( depending on the location ) Yes, there are only a few hairpin bends from Chikmagalur to Bhadra. It is fine for an amateur driver, roads are not very steep. Its normal Ghat roads.

They have an online booking system on their website. That is how I did it. The timing that was mentioned is 9:30am to 3:30pm. It can vary.

Boat Safari is included with the night stay package and that package is approximately 8000 Rupees per night. Safari happens for over 2 hours. Boat 'Ride' is different from safari. It is for around 30-40 mins. This is included in the day package and it costs approximately Rs 1600 per person. This is what I did.

We visit JLR river tern lodge regularly on package trip including stay & 2 safaris. Last Sunday also I went there for 1 night stay. Never knew that there is a day option like u explained. Can u pl give me more details like tarrif , what r inclusion in that?

Hi, I had visited their website and that is where I found the day visit option and made an online booking. The cost is approximately ₹1600 per person ( when I visited ). It includes a boat ride ( less than 1 hour ) and Lunch during the Lunchtime. These are the only two things which are included in the package. I was offered to do kayaking as well because there was a delay with the boat ride activity that time. Boat safari is different from boat ride. Boat Safari is only for ppl who do a night stay at the lodge.
