I was a air cargo specialist at Dove Air Force base in the early 80s. We uploaded and downloaded C5 ,C141,KC10, C130 and 747 civilian cargo aircraft. The C17 wasnt built yet. I loved being on the flightline and being in the Air Force in general. I got out after 4 years and that was the biggest mistake i made in my life. But it was a great experience being part of the greatest Air Force on earth

I was an Instructor Loadmaster for 22 years. Flew on various models of the C-130 and C-141. This is a pretty good video of life as a Loadmaster. Many thanks for the memories.

@I speak for the metal 🤘🏽 I spent most my career as a Loadmaster in the Mobile Aerial Ports and Aerial Delivery. I deployed doing air freight stuff as much as the freight guys did. Learned what it took to get cargo behind the aircraft. Most aircrew have no idea the obstacles.

This is how it hopefully is done today. During the sixties, and in Vietnam it was a whole different game.

@Edward proctor Flew from 1976 to 1998. Dyess, Rhein Main, Dyess, RAF Mildenhall, Norton, Hurlburt Field, and Kirtland. More tdys than I can count and over 112 countries visited. Worked with great LM's over the years, Gerry Gutierrez, Frank Martindale, and Larry Hill among the many. Great career, miss it a lot. Take care.

Do you need to take a lie detector test for this mos? My recruiter said something with intel jobs requiring it. Obviously this isn’t an intel job, but does it require it? Heard those can give faulty results.

Why did we stop doing LAPES drops? We did them during Nam as I have seen many video clips and even movie sciences of them,
@10hunterLab
@10hunterLab Жыл бұрын
I was a LAPES qualified Instructor Loadmaster. We stopped doing them for a few reasons. This mission was deemed to be too expensive, dangerous, and more importantly due to the change in tactical doctrine and force employment methods.

It's not that difficult. High school math and physics does help. The job just takes lots of common sense. You should go for it. You will never regret it.

given the size & speed it is likely to be fatal & would be a tragedy. they would make sure they don't drop on top of people or buildings or vehicles
