In Bulgaria we celebrate Baba Marta on 1 March. It's a day when we give our family and friends those white and red bracelets and wish each other health and stuff like that. We wear the bracelets until we see a stork for the first time or a blooming tree or another sign that spring has come.
@goteacher79814 жыл бұрын
Hi! Same in Romania. We have the red and white bracelets/pins(Mărțișoare), but we call Baba Dochia not Baba Marta. So similar💟
@inperpetuummillie99484 жыл бұрын
And Baba Marta translates to Granny March, a fictional character who's moods were like the weather this time of year. The story goes that if you hang the bracelets with the first sign of spring she will be merciful and we will get good weather.
@stamat1a4 жыл бұрын
Same thing in Greece! We don't celebrate it though, we just wear them all throughout March. I think that's how it is in the Balkans in general Ps we call them Martis/martakia (plural)

The red and white friendship bracelet is actually not just a bulgarian tradition!! We have it here in Romania and Moldova, too - it's called Mărțișor (little March) and it can be worn in many forms: as a brooch or a friendship bracelet like yours!! From what I know, white symbolises the snow, but also purity and red is blood, as in the color of life. The tradition says that at the end of March, you must hang it on a blossoming tree and make a wish!

I have an interview for a teaching internship next week for teaching maths for a month in June/July after uni exams end (really hope it still happens despite corona, or that would ruin everything because I need this for my confidence). They're offering every suitable candidate a place, so there is no need to worry about competition. I'm really nervous and quite scared but also excited! I haven't done much job research but I have this preconception that most jobs must be so boring and uninspiring. Teaching is the only obvious thing to me that wouldn't be boring, and I really hope it's suitable for me. I plan to either do teacher training next year (haven't applied yet) or do a masters' degree and apply for teacher training for the year after :) I love your videos Jade. I feel like no amount of videos will help me understand your life there because it's so hectic and different to mine!

We wear March bracelets in Greece too. Whit this way we celebrate the spring. We take them out either on Easter either in the end of the spring and we put them in trees
@chrysoula52264 жыл бұрын
The bracelet is thing in Greece too. It's called martis (the focus on a) after the greek name of the month March. It is worn each year every day of March so as not for us "to get scolded by the sun or be given bad luck from the swallows" lol
@alexandraxanthopoulou68534 жыл бұрын
Oooh we wear that bracelet too!! Im from Greece, and we call it "martis" (aka march). We wear it in the month of march so we won't get sunburnt. It is a tradition here and we wear it until we sea the first swallow. we are neighbours with Bulgaria and I didn't know they do it too! Thats great!
@wallmaria68674 жыл бұрын
We also have this little red and white bracelet in Greece! We call them "martakia" and we give them to celebrate the first day of March! We also usually wear them only on March and then take them off. :)

heyy! I'm bulgarian and I gave some of those bracelets to my friends as well!! I've actually never lived in Bulgaria so I don't know the tradition too well but I still love to celebrate it! Basically the tradition is called "Baba Marta" or Grandma March in english haha and theres a story based around her where her mood changes reflect the weather in march. Also i think that when you see a stork, you hang it on a blooming tree! I suggest you check out culturetrip for more info. ;)
